Hello everyone, I'm an old player just getting back into the game after a three year break.

As much as I love the game, the game doesn't like me. I keep crashing at the most random times, with either a crash to dekstop, a freeze or a forced reboot.

Now I've formatted my PC, got all the updated drivers. My other games play like a charm yet MxO still crashes very often (more often with higher settings, after a while on default and after a long time on low).

Ive got my DxDiag and MSinfo uploaded so you can have a looksy.

I'm running an AMD 3800+X2  with XP Home

Asus 7800GT 256MB

Asus a8n SLI Premium motherboard with onboard RealTek audio

MxO ran fine three years ago, and my other games (BF2; HL2 are pretty much the heaviest games) run on high without a problem.

I've tried playing with my settings, Ive tried disabling my Avira AntiVirus, my defragging takes about 1.5 minutes, I Regclean often, I use Spybot daily, I use windows firewall (even entered the ports listed in a topic from this forum).
My PC runs like a dream, only not in MxO..

Out of desparation I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me before I toss it out the window!

Thanks

Nin.

Oh it's good to hear I'm not alone (though I wish we weren't in this situation!)

What're your specs?

(I just realised I posted this in the wrong subforum.. Sorry!)

(I've requested that this get moved to "Performance Issues" for you.)

You should NEVER use a Registry cleaner unless it's specifically built to remove a particular program. More often than not they remove things that are meant to be there. Spybot Destroyer creates a lot of false positives and they are currently being investigated for fraudulent business practices. I would immediately and permanantly stop using both of them. If you really nead a spybot/spam cleaner use AVG. It's very very good, and free.

It sounds like your video drivers have a memory leak that is being triggered by MxO. Run a full system check (How to run a Full System Check)
If that fails try rolling back to an earlier version of your video driver.

Your sound drivers are from 2004... see if there is a new version available.

Can you make a full version of your MSINFO file available (PM me the link if you don't want to make it public) including the crashlog (near the end).

If you need help finding the right video and audio drivers postback here or shoot me a PM and I'll give you a hand.

I do sometimes get a BSOD but it varies so much, but the memory leaking is a thing that comes up when searching for the stop codes. But I've run memtest86 with no errors or anything, and it's only MxO that causes it. I've borrowed some games from friends and see how they work, and they all work fine.

I'll send you a PM with the link and I'm going to look for my audio drivers.

As for my video divers, I installed the drivers from the CD when I formatted, noticed no improvement whatsoever so I put the latest back on.

I've done a  few systems checks before, did one just now, nothing out of the ordinary.

I mainly use regcleaner after I've installed or uninstalled a program, I've been using it for years and never had a problem with it, also Grisoft announced that AVG would no longer be free, so I noticed a lack of update quality, I tried AntiVir and it works better than AVG, which is also free

Thanks for linking me to the full MSINFO... I'm downloading it now and I'll post back with any findings worth noting.
