Two Golden Rules:
1. NO GOD LIKE CHARACTERS IN THE FORUMS OR IN GAME! You can’t have one person throwing a punch at you and out of no where pull out a SMG or something. Or shoot someone dead in one shoot. Or act like god start a fight and then just walk out
2.NO TAKING CONTROL OF OTHERS CHARACTERS!!!. This is self explanatory and if you want to create a story talk with them and plan it out but don't just have so and so trying to kill you with out there permission.
Player Events:
If your planning a player event talk to the people you want to involve in it. Don't just out of the blue go "hey I want to become a spy for the mask" and start passing info to Zion that you may have no proof for. Unless that's what you want them to think and you really are a mask and just messing with Zion.
Chat:
Now then. Minor things in role playing. Try to learn to spell. I’m guilty of this one as my grammar and spelling are well lacking. Also NO L33T talk. Well in RPing anyway. If you’re in Mara just kicking back do it all ya want.
When typing out something that's out of character or OOC use these ((insert text here))
When doing motions such as taking a drink of something you can ether use the /em command *put it in these* -or in these- or anything else that makes it separate form normal typing.
Character Story:
When you create your character sometimes you might want to put in silly stuff like. "I'm Morpheus bro or Niobe and Morph's illegitimate kid. These kinds of backgrounds are well kind of looked down upon. Not that there bad but its just kind of not original. And yes I know its hard to create a background took me three months to do it ^^ but here are some steps to help you start on your way.
1. Think about your name. You created your Handel for a reason at the very start now explain why you did. Il use mine for instance. GamiSB comes from my friends. I went by Shinigami (i know not that original but hey I like it) and Some Bum. Well the Handel from my character is in memory of those he left behind when he took the red pill. So although he is freed he wont forget them in the matrix.
2. Your self. Take all that you have been threw in life and some how throw it in here. Whether it be good or bad. If you got beaten up as a kid you can have your character taking pity on the noobs(for lack of a better term) in the RP seen.
3. Your organization and beliefs. This is a big one. The organization you work for you had a reason to join it. So put that in there. Whether you are a Morpheus fan and have joined Zion in memory of him. Or a machinist who was freed but feels as if he shouldn't have been. Or a merv who just likes to party. And with the I've event story so far there are now even more choices. You could be a Masked man who wants to be put back in or someone who thinks the assassin has the right idea.
OOC information:
This is regarding something that can really hurt someone's story or character. Anything that is OOC should not be used as information while IC. Say someone walks up to you and has a plan and shares it to you OOC well IC you should never know what that plan was or is. A good story will have ways of setting that up for the main character making it more of a story. So lets give an example. Say I wanted to put a hit out on my good friend AvatRAMa I talk with him about this and when if comes time for him to die he decides that since he knew it was coming he dodge the bullet that was coming for him. See the problem. In the story he was suppose to die but he took OOC knowledge and made it IC knowledge. Ways to avoid this are to use the brackets around all OOC info like this ((I like eggs)) that should not be applied to information on my character as it is gami hates eggs. So anything OOC is nul use in IC stuff. It’s your job to make sure you know its OOC and they know its OOC. As for threads those also need to be marked IC or OOC as does info you pass along. Example being. Say i wanted to post a thread on me wanting to kill Avat to discuss it and get some ideas on how to go about doing it. In the title i would have to put a label on its saying
Hit on Avat ((OOC discussion))
or something like that. Then all the info in the thread should also be in ((these things)) as for IC threads those should be marked also. Ether with
Hit on Avat ((IC discussion)) or in the post its should have at the top
((all this is IC info regarding the hit on Avat))
IC behavior:
I touched on this awhile back but I still feel it needs to be said. When IC please talk to the people you want to create an event with or post something on the threads about. Having someone type up a post on them cutting off you arm with out your knowledge of it is just bad. Very bad. As is having conversations with others and such. But with conversations you have more to work with.
1. You must not change the mowing behind what they said
2. You can not take out anything they said if what you take out might change the meaning of what was said.
3. You may shorten things said as long as the meaning isn't lost.
4.Once again don't change the meaning.
Also would like to remind all that. THERE IS NO PLAYING GOD!!!! you cant have a gun to your head then all of a suddenly be behind someone and have a gun to there head. Your not Neo as much as some noob Zionist would love to be.
Learning to adapt:
Now I did say that most events should be planed out and scripted almost. But there are times where things happen to you that were not scripted or planed out. I'm going to use an example.
Say a spy is having a conversation where he admits he is a spy. Well the whole point behind is to remain hidden. But an over heard conversation by someone that is later leaked all over has now made this spy known. Now you can always play the dinal card and if it was OOC then you have good reason to (see OOC info) but if you were in character you must go with it. Who knows you may just create an entirely new and better story or even open new doors to what you can do.
OOC chat.
Now I'm very guilty of this and need to work on it. But lets say your in a meeting concerning a future alliance or recruiting a new crew. You’re in a team with a group of people and talking to another team. The RP being spoke in Area chat. Now then OOC comment can ether be said in Area or in Team. For the sake of others id put it in team as the main conversation is in Area and there's no need to disturb that. But sometimes OOC comments can also get in the way while in Team. In this case ether put it in Crew chat or faction chat. Or better yet don't say it at all.
IC chat:
This is where the magic happens. Just keep in mind the rules and such and you should be fine. BUT do take note of who you are with. As this is a MMORPG that means we have many different races religions beliefs exedra all in one place. So if someone asks you to keep the language down or the gore do so. Role Playing is based off the community and a community must work together. We may all have different stories views and ideas but in order for this all to come together and work we must take note of those around us and listen to there concerns needs and wants to truly be a community.
Role Playing PvP:
This is a difficult area. Some like the Hacker tree some despise it. I would ask those about o partake in the PvP fight if hacker is allowed and if so then go for it if not. Well load something else are watch I guess. But here are some things I strongly agree must happen in RPvP.
1. All members that are about to fight must be flagged before the fight begins
2. Once you die that’s is game over your out of the fight.
3. (this is optional) once dead you may return to the fight but in /mood hurt. This will show that you died and are no longer a target should your flag still be up. Word of warning though I wouldn’t sit. If Hacks are allowed then most likely there will be an area hacker and you don’t want to get hit with those while sitting. Second should someone get the idea to attack you despite that you died. At least you can defend yourself. But before hand tell them that your are out of the fight and there to merely watch.
4. When fighting someone that is the same organization as yours you must duel. The looser of the duel must reconnect and then /suicide. Now if the RP is that it was a sparing match of just a test then no don’t /suicide. All in all I would ask.
This thread is open to any additions to what I have said. Any discussion or anything. Would love to hear your thoughts.
