Hi everyone!  I am new to the game, actually haven't even started yet cuz its taking a very long time to download like 2 hours so far and bars like 1/3 full.  I am a longtime veteran of many mmo's, mostly WoW, which I've been playing since it came out.  Recently I decided to take a break while waiting for the new expansion and try out some other mmo's that I've missed.  After playing FFXI for about 3 days(awful game) I've decided to give MxO a shot.  I have a few questions.

 1.  I purchased this game from direct2drive so I didn't get a manual.  Is there an actual manual online or should I just stick to reading the newbie forums?  From past experience I've found that manuals, even when severely out of date, do a much better job of giving people the lowdown of what to expect in mmo's.

 2.  This is probably a very common question.  Is it possible to solo on this game?  What is the best class for soloing?    I am a longtime WoW player and the main reason I loved WoW over every other MMO was that you could solo all the way to the leve cap with ease.  I've played many other mmo's but aside from maybe City of heroes(which you could solo but it was disgustingly slow) none of them were very viable for solo play.  That isn;t to say I don't enjoy the occasional group I just prefer solo play whenever possible.

 3. In WoW my favorite class to play was either my mage, shadow priest, and hunter.  Which classes in the game mostly resemble the gameplay of those classes?  Are these classes viable for solo play?

 4. Can you use addons on this game to customize your interface etc?

 5. Can you use macros and how useful are they?  I was pretty good at setting up macros on WoW and got quite dependent on them as they make the game much more enjoyable.

6. What is the most populated server(I prefer PvE)?  Is there any forced PvP even on the PvE servers?

I actually have a ton of other questions but these are the main ones.  I am looking forward to meeting some of you!  I am a big fan of the Matrix trilogy so I am hoping upon hope that I can get into this game lol.

1) Our manual is particularly severely outdated - it's best to ask here or in-game.

2) Most of the content can be solo'ed but much of it is easier or more fun working with a team.  Any class is good for soloing but different classes are better suited to different kinds of tasks.

3) Hackers are the 'spellcasting' class and Patchers are the healing/buffing class.  Gunmen work at a range or in close combat while Martial Arts are close combat only.  Spies are the 'rogue' class, they have sneak attacks as well as ranged and close attacks.  Coder encapsulates the 'pet' and 'crafting' classes.  You can solo with any of them.

4) MxO does not allow 3rd party software or anything like that.

5) Yes you can set up macros in MxO, they are useful for certain kinds of tasks.

6) Syntax is usually considered the most populated server and Vector is our Hostile server.  If you enter a Construct you will be flagged regardless of server.  Certain constructs have special rules; Sati's Playground won't flag you but Datamine makes you attackable by anyone at all.

Feel free to keep asking and welcome to MxO =D

Welcome to Megacity, Operative!

Always good to see a new face.  Sticking to the Redpill forums is pretty much the best bet for tips and general stuff along those lines for now.  I learned most of the game this way and by asking folks in-game myself.  However, some knowledgeable folks at put together a great Beginners Guide here that might be worth leafing through (also, don't hesitate to check out the rest of the website, excellent resources there).  Welcome again and don't be shy on asking questions!  SMILEY

Thanks guys! Great timing with the responses. To be perfectly honest I wasn't sure all that many people played this game so I wasn't expecting responses so soon lol. Needless to say sometimes its very good to be surprised!

So I've been reading the guides and the site mostly and so far the information is great especially on Rumbaar's site. Very informative for a newb props go to you! Thanks again for the responses I will be sure to ask again if any other questions come up. Right now I am still waiting for the download to complete lol I'm so excited. Right now its about 2/3 of the way done with the Download bar but the blue Update bar has hardly moved. Is that normal?

I'd kinda get used to things not quite working as they ought to. It's a great game, where you'll either love it, or hate it. And if you love it... those things that don't quite qork, just end up being 'quirks'. SMILEY

Oh yeah I understand completely I've played quite a few mmos that weren't mainstream and you either love em or hate em. I really think I'm going to like this one though. I just got a gut feeling about it. Decided to dust off my Matrix DVDs and watch the Trilogy again hile I'm waiting for it to finish downloading. Kinda help get me in the spirit a bit more. As if I wasn't excited enough already lol SMILEY

The progress bar always looks like it will take forever but apparently it's not so bad.  I left mine going overnight so I didn't have to watch it.  When you get started, let us know your server and name so we can help you out.

No matter the server you should find a good mix of helpful people. You'll start off in Uriah Northeast after completing the tutorial; a popular zone with lots of people nearby is Mara Central, the proverbial  "heart" of the server.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to let us know SMILEY

1. Not sure about the manual. I ran a few searches to see if I could find a pdf version and I can't. I'd be willing to send you one, thought I am out of town and won't get home for another 2 weeks. PM me if you are interested.

2. Soloing the game is possible with just about any class. I did it with kung fu but i would advise guns. Things to get no matter what: Download mission map (in hacker), disguise (in spy) and lockpicks (also spy).

Also keep in mind that whan missioning with others that are higher levels, you will get more experience points. And some conside the grind to 50 to be quite painful and mundane. The difference is that you have archive missions and rewards that can keep you motivated!

3. not sure

4. not sure

5. linky

6. syntax. most constructs are underutilized except for the new ones, so you may be able to farm them solo, anyway.

welcome to the city!

There should be an older help thing in the loading area that explains alot of stuff
Else, YourMXOFolder\resources\html\Vigsomething\index.html (bit older, but it still does cover some basics), and \html\LoadingArea\
