I have this thing where my monitor turns black, then the game is visible again, then it turns black and so on.
It seems to be happening randomly with different intervals. I've played Matrix Online before on this monitor, and I have never had these problems.

It's a brand new HP w2207h 22" monitor, bought it at christmas. The only recent changes that I have done with it is that I have switched it to HDMI instead of VGA and I have cleaned out my video drivers using Driver Sweeper, and then I have reinstalled the latest drivers.

Here's my DxDiag.

Have you tried reverting back to VGA to see if it still happens? If it does, then your vid card is messing up. If it doesnt then it could just be the HDMI cable you bought. You might hav got a faulty one or the connector on it is bad. I am putting money on it being the HDMI connection. Make sure all the connections are tight as well. Cause if its just a tad lose it be moving around enough to be doing that.

Edit:  Oh and make sure you have the latest drivers supported by MxO not the vid card itself. Countless times have I upgraded just to have MxO issues and hve to rollback.

side note: if the cable is bad and the store you bought it from cant fix it, check out http://www.newegg.com  they have lots of cheap cables that are very good quality. I bought a 25 ft HDMI from them for 10 bux, where the local stores charged 60. And the one I have shows no distortion that I can notice.

Chances are that the cable isn't at fault but rather the card or monitor.

  1. Check the cable is connected properly.
  2. if cable is ok switch back to vga cable
  3. If screen stops flickering it may be the HDMI interface on your screen. Test with another screen on HDMI if you can.
  4. If the second screen also flickers then the problem is the card ... if the second screen is ok then it is the first screen that needs replacing.
Sorry for the rushed reply... it's crazy at work today. SMILEY

Heh, it's all good.

I've noticed that my problem does only occur in the Matrix Online. Even if I play other games, my monitor works fine.
