I"ve been saying hes the Best me Whole Life..(43 on New Years Day...yay for da old guy)

Link goes to this:
Neil Peart proves that he is still percussively pertinent to a younger generation of drummers by winning DRUM! magazine's "Drummies 2007" "Drummer Of The Year". He also won four other awards.

Neil Peart, who turned 55 on September 12, received some pretty cool belated birthday presents from Enter Music Publishing, publishers of hip/percussion magazines worldwide, such as DRUM! and Traps magazines. During this year's "Drummies", Peart was named "Drummer Of The Year" by 4000 drummers, who participated in the readership survey conducted by DRUM! for the Drummies. The runners-up were: Danny Carey, Vinnie Colaiuta, Thomas Lang. Additionally Peart won four more "Drummies" for "Progressive Rock Drummer," "Live Performer," "DVD" ("Anatomy Of A Drum Solo"), and "Drumming Album" ("Snakes & Arrows" by RUSH).

While Peart has received numerous awards for his drumming over his career, this marks the first time that he has won DRUM!'s prestigious "Drummer Of The Year".

"Neil Peart was on our June cover because we suspected this would be a big album for RUSH," said Phil Hood, publisher of Enter Music Publishing. Even though our audience skews younger than RUSH's fan base, he's a huge influence on all drummers, so it's not surprising he finally won this award from DRUM!'s readers," continued Hood.

The following is a summary of the drummers who won in some of the other categories:

Drumming Rising Star: Jason Bittner
Runners-Up: Brann Dailor, Andrew Hurley, Benny Greb

Progressive Rock Drummer: Neil Peart
Runners-Up: Mike Portnoy, Danny Carey, Gavin Harrison

Metal Drummer: Jason Bittner
Runners-Up: Chris Adler, Joey Jordison, Tomas Haake

Mainstream Rock/Pop Drummer: Chad Smith
Runners-Up: Carter Beauford, Travis Barker, Daniel Adair

Alternative Rock Drummer: Travis Barker

Punk Drummer: Travis Barker

Yeah, this is pretty sweet, especially with what happened after the whole Blender "2nd-worst-lyricist-of-all-time" fiasco. I'm a little surprised he beat out Portnoy for the prog rock award, but hey, I can't image Mike being too pissy about that. Neil is his idol, after all (if you can't hear Rush in nearly everything that Dream Theater does, you have no ears).

Now, where the hell is the stupid R&R Hall of Fame recognition? This band has influenced more musicians than most, and yet can't get inducted into the Hall of Fame? W   .    T     .     F     ?

This years inductees, you ask?

  • Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
  • R.E.M.
  • The Ronettes
  • Patti Smith
  • Van Halen
  • SMILEY

    The Ronettes? Patti Smith?

    Over Rush?!?

It'd be comical if it wasn't so tragic.

It looked like a no-contest victory to me, well, except for maybe Portnoy, though I'd have to say I think Peart is better. With a little more time and experience Portnoy may surpass the master, though. It's funny to me that they put Portnoy up for best live performance... Or any drummer for that manner. I haven't seen that many drummers giving off any sort of crazy show with their kit, and I've seen Dream Theater live... Portnoy didn't move. And neither dig John Myung. Or John Petrucci. James LaBrie only walked off stage a whole lot, and Jordan Rudess was spinning around on this cool-*CENSORED* keyboard rig. But the music was still solid and I still had a good time. But Portnoy definitely shouldn't have even been a runner-up for live performance. Nope.

Awesome to see some Rush love here!  SMILEY

That Blender thing was certainly BS, especially considering as stated that Rush has won numerous performance awards in the past (many fan voted) and is still actually making moving, powerful music more than 30 years after they started.  Most bands that have been around that long are just caricatures of what they used to be and are basically just existing off outdated pride and the hits they wrote decades earlier.

And Rush are FINALLY going to be playing another concert where I live.. so w00t!!!
