This bot reminds me of something, but I can't quite remember...

"Hello, I'm NG Resonance. What would you like to talk about, Alex D?"

Oh yeah, god she got annoying.

You machines are pathetic, you choose to deprive someone of the only friend he had to gain a program which your leader had already declared worthless - and you wonder why Cphar didn't want to join you?!!

Was that little program really worth messing up his life? I only hope he can perhaps learn to rely on people and that some good may come out of your lowly actions.

If someone is relying on a simple program to keep their life together from a psychological standpoint, there isn't much life to mess up.

Agreed. In any case the program was relatively simplistic compared to other programs such as SIMLO. I'm sure if he was desperate enough to have what can only be described as an extention of an imaginary friend, he could program another. Besides we didn't deprive him of the program, he stored it in a database and didn't retrieve it before leaving for New Zion... he left it. Who knows maybe this turn of events may lead that man to overcome his problems and include himself with his community, or maybe not. We all have to make choices when life throws us curveball, life isn't fair and now choice about his own future is his to make...

Your words may be logical, but they are not justification

Are you truly so cold?

Oi, shush you. I wanted to make a copy of ZAITSO and hand the original back to Cpahr. And whatever we may find out about Popper from this program, I sincerely hope we can return it to Cpahr as soon as we're done with it. The man needs help, and though he shrugged off our offers of support, I think he deserves it. To Zionites that know him: buck your ideas up and help the poor lad. Now you know how he feels, so do something about it.

Do you think Cphar will be pleased about his 'friend' being copied for our use? It may after all have... intimate details about him as well as this Michael, who may or may not be Popper. He may not even accept it back possibly thinking we've made modifications to it. Of course we could elect not to tell him, but if we were handing back his program then the program might divulge that information to him anyway... If he truly is dependant on the program, that he has been without for a while now, then he'll take it back anyway. As Proc said... this may make some Zionites who know of Cphar actually notice Cphar and try to help him.. heh, if he even wants help....

Hm.. Two of my daughters happen to be exilic in nature, they of course aren't programmed simplistically, but they are far from imaginary.

They both have the power, and the will to love and live in a future where they should not be in constant fear of the Machine Deletion list simply because of whom they are or from what race they come.

All sentient life has the capability to love. Why ruin a mans obvious only friend, whether it be imaginary or not in your eyes, for personal "safety".  I do not doubt Gray's Scanning capability when he said it was useless to you folk.. I suppose it is a manner of that those with an overtly twitchy trigger finger and a xenophobic disposition outnumber those who can see a situation NOT ONLY with logic and proportions but with a sense of sympathy and care for someone else regardless from whom they decide to work for (rather he was moreso "imprisoned" in a zion asylum most likely, making it probably impossible for him to turn)., and in honest I highly doubt Ziatsu will grow to explode the matrix into thousands of code bits.

You are implying that the program Ziatsu is sentient. Of course this cannot be determined completely just by a conversation and specific parameters have always eluded mankind in how to determine sentience. It is however, widely established that a shell that has been limited, simplistic programming which emulates feelings and appearance with no evidence of growth beyond a memory is not sentient, much like the work of robotics in mankind's history before AI of course there are always exceptions.

Regardless, the current view on this subject is about the man Cphar rather than his apparently useless program. In some eyes he is seen as someone who needs help by giving his 'friend' back to him, others suggest that they are helping him by removing this 'imaginary' friend. Some may say that he does not need help and to leave him alone.  However, this is a situation that forces others to make the decision and they will make it in the way that they believe will help him. So suggesting that we/they do not show any sympathy is false, it is merely how the person making the decision and the person observing the decision differ in that area.

What Tranque said in a nice formal manner I agree upon. Now I'll just say it in mine.

Machinists you disgust me.  With the crackheads joining the System's cause these days I guess anything could be thought of as an excuse for wiping people out... hope the next excuse won't be that he had green hair. Try doing us all a favor, and when I say all I mean mankind - free your mind, aight? Bootlicking faschists!

How quaint. Wiping people out? You can't be talking about the other night's events; we didn't kill or even touch a soul.

Oh, no, my mistake. We did touch people. Gray kicked some Cypherites out of the room.

Fair enough Proc, I do realise that not all of you entirely supported the retention of the program, but I still am surprised at the ability of some machinists to deprive him of a friend and an aid. The fact that he MAY be rehabilitated because of this does not justify it at all. The program was there to aid him in communication with other, to support him - nothing you've said so far justifies taking it away from him.

Unfortunately, it came down to a tactical advantage. The only reason we took it away was because we thought we might be able to gain some insight into Michael Popper's addled brain. The potential advantage was weighed against the immediate welfare of Cpahr and won out. We're not being mean for the sake of it.

Well, eh, having said that, there were a couple of voices that wanted to destroy ZAITSO outright, but that was before we realised how attached Cpahr was to it.
