The $200 Xion pwr supply that I originally ordered with the system is out of stock.
They won't have anymore till July 16th.
They offered to send (today) a substitute one instead... fine....
Until I realized the sub is a much cheaper $99 one.
So they said they would send the original on the 16th, and I could swap out again.

NOOOOO!  I'm not doing this TWICE.  SMILEY

I've been on the phone with them for an hour and a half.
Phinally I conviced them to send an equal or better value pwr supply instead.

Let me tell ya.. it took 3 phone calls, and three people to make them understand why, what they had proposed was WRONG.

Not to mention I paid $19 EXTRA phor professional wiring to begin with...  they can't refund that... period.

In the end (I think) ...I'm ok with it.

This is the power supply they are 'now' sending today, via 2 day air:  Ultra X3 800w

Phrom the looks of it... it's cables are modular, and it should be easier to swap out... can someone confirm this?  Any other advice on swapping this out would be extremely helpful.

*GRUMBLE GRUMBLE*

That doesn't sound kosher. I'm not 100% down with US Consumer Protection law but the way it stands in Australia, if a company charges you for say, professional cabling, and cables in a faulty part, then the cabling is damaged by the faulty part. The product supplied was faulty and they are REQUIRED (regardless of store based 14 day policies etc) to either repair, replace with equivalent or better or refund the product.

A quick call to the consumer rights council (or whatever your local equivalent is) and they will send you your rights as a consumer. Mention that to the supplier and they will poop their pants and supply you with the right stuff.
Because it's the consumer rights council that will sue them... not you.

So it depends. Did you buy the system as a whole, or did you buy it as parts and purchase the assembly separately? If the assembly is part of the same order then for all intensive legal purposes it's a single product.
If not then the faulty part damaged the professional wiring product and is an incidental cost.

Whatever the result I suggest a call to your local consumer rights organisation.

NO MERCY FOR DODGY, HALF-ASSED SUPPLIERS.

And yes the new one has modular cables.

(in future may I suggest you try ThermalTake products for solid reliability)

ULTRA power supplies are good, they've never failed me in the past.

Stares for a moment, then stares at the pile of dead ULTRAs in the back of the tech shop
If you go ULTRA, make sure when you get it, its heavy.  Light = Piece of Poo.

If you have to get something good and locally (as a fellow Texan I can't help but throw our store chain out there :p ), my Core 2 Duo 6750, 8800GT SLI, RAID 0 system runs on this just fine.

Thanks all... the new pwr supply sent via Phed Ex, is due to arrive tomorrow.  Will be installing tomorrow night.  If all goes well, I'll be happy.  If it doesn't.... I'm not gonna mess around, and the WHOLE thing is going back, and I'll buy somewhere else.

Something tells me this is not the end... I hate that pheeling. SMILEY

I demand good news for once for your sake!

(Also, could you send a PM my way for something unrelated?)

Thanks Ken... sent you a pm. SMILEY

And your demand didn't do any good... SMILEY

*sigh*

Installed new (really nice!) power supply.  I highly recommend the Ultra X3.  The cables were amazing.

Powered her up.  Same problem.  Only ran a phew seconds.

Called tech support, did lots of new tests (for hours) and decided the mother board was phried.  Don't know why, don't know how, maybe during shipping.

They gave me 3 options:
1. Send it in phor repair (well take no less than 3 weeks)
2. Send me a replacement mother board, and 'I' swap it out.  (uh..... no.) o.O
3. Or send the WHOLE system back phor a phull refund.

I chose option 3.  It's going on the UPS truck Monday.... enough is enough.

Now I get to start all over again... any suggestions of where I should start now?? SMILEY

But wait..........................there's more:

During all the tests, we used the monitor from my husbands computer.
When we were all done, he connected it back up to his computer.
Turned it on.
It won't boot up.... no clue what's wrong.
It's very old (like 8 or 9 years).
He's going to get my current one, once I get a new one.  That was the plan... looks like it didn't happen in time.

Happy July 4th.

I don't pheel so good now....
I'm goin to bed... it's been a long night, and we have a BIG day with a BIG party planned here.
Not going to think about computers at all phor a couple of days.  SMILEY

Yes, I am still in computer hell.

Waiting phor my refund phrom CyberpowerPC.  I shipped the computer back to them this past Monday.  They say they will reverse the charges to my credit card this coming Monday or Tuesday. (they received the whole system back yesterday, Thursday)  When I talked to them today, they first said they couldn't reverse the charges for another 5 to 10 business days............. I think I had a cow.  Now it will be done in 1 or 2 business days.

So... now, I'm most likely going to order one from IBuyPower.com  (VERY similar to the one I ordered before with CyberPowerPC) but...

I'd like to ask if anyone has, or knows anything about the new ATI Radeon 4870 or 4850 (4800 series).  Has it been proven to work well with MxO?

Thank you!

I can't say proven, but if they hold true to similarities with the 3850/3870, you shouldn't have issues with those cards, other than typical Vista MxO issues if you get Vista.

Thanks SMILEY  ...and I'm definitely Not getting Vista. SMILEY

I still may stick with the 3870, was just curious about the 4800 series, since they just came out.  Neither company had them available till now.  I'm thinking it might not be a good idea to try something that new when I know the 3800 series are ok.

Well it finally happened. I put the wrong cd in my PC and the linux auto installer killed my MBR and MFT. (PC = Dead)

2 days later and I'm reinstalled, restored form backup and updated.

So if it makes you pheel any better phluff, It's not your fault... The cosmos just has it in for computers at the moment.

So sorry Phi =(  ...I'm starting to think computers hate people with names beginning with Ph.  =(

I'm starting over now with system #2  (No one better say 3rd time's the charm) =P  My husband's computer is still on the phritz too, I have a guy at work looking at his.  I doubt it can be saved, so we're sharing mine until my new one comes in... then he will get the one I'm using now.

Ordered my new one (again) >.> ....yesterday.  Should receive it some time around the 24th of the month.  Returned the CyberPowerPC phor a phull refund, and ordered a different one through IBuyPower.  Everything is basically the same except I went ahead and got 4 gigs of Ram, a much better life time warranty pwr supply, and this case.  Also paid about $50 more for a 3 day build time instead of the normal 5 to 10 days.
