Sometimes control is necessary to keep people from hurting themselves or others. Remember what happened in the former Yugoslavia when that control was lifted...its citizens went back to their old vendettas against those of different ethnic and religious backgrounds. People who'd lived together as neighbors for years were suddenly the targets of each others' ethnic cleansing. Control that keeps different groups from killing each other isn't necessarily evil, you know.
