1) Fixed lighting on character child models

Character child models (hands and faces) are lit differently than the rest of the body. When standing still, they are lit brightly from North and South, and in shadow on the sides facing East and West. This lighting does not update if the character animates while standing in place; for instance, your face is in shadow when facing East (even if the sun is shining directly on it), and if you do the /lookaround emote to make your head turn left and right, the dark shadow stays fixed on the front of your face even when your head turns to look North and South as the emote animation plays.

Richworld pedestrians, whose faces are built into the main body, rather than attached as children, do not have the face lighting problem.

The angle of the lighting on this issue seems to be linked to the camera rotation angle... of course the lighting on the character profile (details window and full render in the Inventory window) is fixed so maybe they're linked.

Logged into MxO last night automatically and forgot to boot into xp first..... the shadow problem was no where in sight and to all intents and purposes MxO was running quite happily in vista..........

Edit...OH errrr please disregard my comments above, today the problems of shadow and texture are there in droves..... trying to comprehend the reasons - though my own abject stupidity may be the most obvious cause =/ apologies for the misinfo!

In addition to the aformentioned problems, I'm also having slight audio errors on a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic.  This includes no, or unsynched jumping sound animations, sometimes no gunfire sounds, and no launcher sounds.  It seems to have improved with the latest patch, but is still there.

I know there has been a change in audio standards for Windows Vista, but it should still be noticed.  So far it is the only application I have had troubles with.

I've had a few problems with my X-Fi (Platinum edition) on Vista. MxO for one, but also occasional jittery sound in other apps, Internet Explorer "navigation" sound getting badly clipped, and occasionally if I pause iTunes or QuickTime, I get a massive blast of what sounds like horrible feedback (a very very loud buzzing sound) for a few seconds, then all sound disappears for a while.
Oh and sometimes the sound seems to get all 'lagged up' and nothing plays for a while (MSN sounds for example) then it all comes at once.

Personally I blame Creative's woeful drivers for everything, it's easier that way. I'm sure they have something to do with global warming too.

Only got Vista installed yesterday and haven't had much of a chance to try out MxO with it, but I am reporting the same problems as Sykin with the shadows. I'm finding it definitely messes with the face, not sure about the hands. Also, I think it messes with clothes that have a 'glossy/shiney' look because I was in Mara and a female RSI was wearing a pearl trench in white that was far too bright (hey! it ryhmes SMILEY).
Also just a side note I am experiencing a sound loop on the login screen (Zion OS before you get in-game) of the characters being typed out by the 'computer'. It repeasts throughout my typing and is not interrupted by me hitting enter or anything, however it is stopped by closing the screen. Not sure if that helps with the other sound loops. Will get as much more info as I can on the errors tomorrow when it's not time for me to crash and cease all bodily and mental action.....

Screeny of the face shadow problem and 64-bit dxdiag following, if you need the regular (I'm guessing 32-bit) diag I have that saved also. Here it comes....

Just to add to this....I have played MxO for a while today and am experiencing the same random and intermittent sounds, nothing constant, just sounds like the game sound effects are breaking up over radio kinda thing....I will get the very first bit of the sound like the build up to the ring when I upload.
I am also experiencing the npc texture problems, although I discovered today that it also happens on friendlies with spy disguises on. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to take a screeny (sorry) but it was on the Agent disguise.

Are we just going with lack of compatibility with DX 10 or is there another reason people think this is all happening?

Okay - here are my issues.  With pics:

I have a 8600 GTX G-Force card.  Just a tad under the 8800, but still a powerful card.  My drivers are up to date with the most current avalible driver.

*The shiny textures are all messed up - on most clothing.  Some articles of clothing completely break the textures all around.  But when taken off - they go back to normal.

Turing on/off the AA does nothing to fix any of this.  Same with changing texture settings.

*Turning off AA, the inventory doll is either not shown at all or all fragmented.  If I turn on AA, it works perfectly fine.  Still with reflection texture issues.

*The faces of NPCs and Players have the shading issues.

*Vista does not have the lag problem indoors but my XP drive does.

*Textures on doors and objects continuously become corrupted.  I am working to gain screenshots of this happening - but as it is difficult to get a screenshot in Vista because the shot is all black!!

*The sound in Vista on the opening login screen is completely messed up.  It runs on too long and has an incredible delay with typing.  This does not happen on my XP drive.

My other games work absolutely FINE.  Warcraft works beautifuly, as with other games which push the video card harder than this game does.

I pay $42.00 for a 3 month subscription and these issues should not be happening!!  I would expect this of a freeplay, open source game - but even Runescape runs better than this!  And it is not ppl's video cards or Vista or Nvidia's problems - I am thoughrly convinced of that.  It is the Game istelf, not ppl's systems.  Stop playing the blame game developers and just fix it PLZ!!

XP Drive Clothing compare                                      Vista Clothing texture reflection problems

Vista inventory "doll" figure problem

More shots coming soon as I am able to get them.

If you checked out my Vista Post *Points down to the non-stickied one* you can see that I've identified many of these issues as relating to female clothing/textures:

"Clothing Errors

Description: Certain clothing combinations causes the entire screen to have a texture failure and display colors instead of pictures.

Fix: Well, there's not an official "fix" to this error yet, however, the first thing you really have to do is identify what clothing or clothing combinations causes this bug. Once you have that done, you should be able to realize what you shouldn't have paired up. Is that a hassle to change your clothing uniform? Yes, without a double; but, hey, Vista *is* a hassle. I'm working on a workaround with this, however, none have been currently determined as of yet. "

Now, a few more questions:

What resolution are you running in?

Did you attempt to turn Character Shadows off?

Have you tried switching to different clothing to see if it gets rid of the entire black screen?

#

Also: I had the Vista problems with the launcher fixed at one point but for some reason I cannot reproduce the fix; I'll work on that tonight. Furthermore, this game's shadows and advanced graphics features do make it more difficult for Nvidia and Vista to work together and function properly here as there are Direct X 9.0 and 10 conflictions.

Final thing:

Post your DxDiag. I'll see what I can derive from it and I'm sure the TSR team can as well.

I found 1 of the issues and the cause.  I am able to recreate the bug regularly.  As shown in the gif I made.

"Sidestrap" vs "Short"  shoes and boots do this without fail.  I posted about this in the clothing and items thread.  I think that many of the reflection texture bugs are coming from when Rarebit updated shineyness and related colors on the clothing.  That may be the source of the some of the reflections and such tweeking the video graphics hard.

 Resolution: 1440x 900 "wide"
All Shadows turned off.
This appears to happen no matter what when AA is turned on or off.

Everything on my DxDial check log file is fine, working the way it should, and the same as others using similar cards.

Interesting find, none-the-less; have you been able to find out whether or not the textures have anything to do with colors? From what I have seen, certain color blending is causing major color issues in the game.:

http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/...731#36300302320

Look at that and tell me if you've seen anything of the sort.

With any luck, we'll be able to pinpoint the exact problems and hopefully have someone get this fixed.

I don't know about the other dithering problems.  So far that seems to have been resolved lately and hasn't happened recently.

The "Green Dragon Li Tunic" dress item greatly corrupts the graphics.  As I show in these shots.  I bought a similar dress ealier and it caused the problem on the surrounding enviroment textures.  It seems to be affecting the environment even when on this NPC.  it seems to happen most often with this item of clothing.  And she appears to have the tall boots too.

The other 2 NPCs where male and their clothing seemed to be fine.  It seems to be worst with this particular dress item.

Hm. Playing as a male character I have not encountered any of these issues because of my character's clothing thus far; however, I can say, like as the example with the NPC noted, that, I have seen it like this. It is, what I believe, to be a texture glitch in the female's clothing. The way it's designed, the shadows it gives off, something. Seeing as you said you turned character shadows off and you still got it leads me to believe that it is a texture issue rather than a shadow issue. Now, at this point, my only thought to get it done would be on SOE or Nvidia's end. Our best bet, I believe, would be to try as many clothes as possible, identify the bugged ones, and compile a list, and hopefully our friends here at SOE can see what they can do.

Also: I sent an add request to you on Yahoo so perhaps we can discuss it there.

Cool, your added -

I'm on the west coast, Pacific time.  Im home most of the day - pending i get my job or not.  And weekends im home and online too - as long as there aren't other matters to attend to.  I guess I can be an unofficial bug finder.  I really would like to see this game to live up to its potential some day.  Minus the issues it is fun and could revive the Matrix mythos if it has a bit more push for perfecting it behind it. I briefly studied 3D animation and games in art school.  I know in concept how things should work, but I can't write code.

 TTYL
