I dunno about that, although I do see the point of not unlocking the 2008 masks (ie. not unlocking masks that represent main storyline characters). I also think that unlocking those masks will be the path of least resistance for the devs, since as far as we know they will no longer be providing any more content...but I was thinking this could be a way around that by unlocking already existing content.
I think they should definitely unlock the first masks since they comprised mostly of just scary exile programs. The rest should be left as they are. For now.
But wouldn't making a new version of each mask diminish the "specialness" of the actual Halloween masks? To run around as Merv/Veil/Oracle etc. on a daily basis would seem a bit weird from an RP standpoint but it wouldn't hurt the game any. But if it does then why not just unlock the more "discreet" masks such as Tengu, TM, etc. and leave the Merv's and Seraph's locked except for Halloween?

Right, I'm all about consistancy....like, you can be Lupin but not Ethereal 1....You can be Jezebeth but not a Succubus....you can be Captain Raeder/Danielle Smith/Elite Commado Leader but you cant be Tengu/Gargy/Taskmaster, you can be Ko but you can't be Dr. Extractia. I support leveling the playing field in this manner. And I'm not worried about the Marketplace, it might actually spur some more activity. Lastly as I've said before it won't require more than the tiniest amount of dev work since no actual ingame items are created.
I personally see nothing wrong with unlocking all of the existing masks, and the only issue I see with it is that some story characters would be "playable" and some would not. Better would be to unlock them ALL, including the previously dev/mod only ones.
But, if the concern is the "new" storyline character masks making the Halloween versions less special, then the option could simply be to use the different outfit for the character as the "year round" version. *Wet* Seraph for Halloween, normal Seraph year round. *Ill* Persephone for Halloween, normal red/white dress Persephone year round. Etc. Assuming we actually get a Halloween event this year with new masks, this theme could be continued as every story character has 2 different outfits. Make one the year round version available now, make the other a special version collectable only during Halloween. Of course, all of this would require more work than simply having someone flip the "mask on" switch to make them all work all the time.

I would like to see unlocked masks, But SOE are going to hang on to whatever bit of 'update' / 'event' they have lets face it at halloween they arent going to say - Update for halloween get the masks you already have from 364 other days of the year haha!
Again personally would like but probs best that we dont! lol

I most certainly won't stick around until Halloween, if there is absolutely zero content and development of MxO over the next six months. Even if that's the case no one will get anything new anyways for the Halloween 2009 Event. (If there is anyone left ingame by then).

Now, I will be ingame (ok, I've still not seen everything in the game, as you do I think).
@topic: Unlocking the masks all the time seems not right to me. It seems more like another nail in the coffin ("oh, perhaps the game is dead, so we have two days of fun with the masks, ruin all of the matrix-atmosphere by using them all the time, and that's it..."). I'd like to see continuing normal Halloween-events (that should not be much work, even without a true developer, just activate and deactivate). Of course new masks/things for the event would be nice, but... you what I mean.
I second this idea...
Some of u say then there's nothing left for halloween 2009.. well there will always be the zombies and the collored sky and the chance to get the mask's. (from what i've read/heard. haven't had a halloween event yet )
I mean they should unlock the mask's now. Let us have fun with it as we have fun with the other bosses mask's and hideout mask's.
With the halloween mask's unlocked the possibility's for RP would increas more...
And there still the zombies, collored sky, etc. halloween event to look forward to.
And like some other say, indeed IF we get a new dev or something and if new things are gonna be created again they can always bring it back the way it was.
We don't get new contect anymore atm.. let us at least have to fun with the halloween mask's then and not let us wait to halloween for it then be able to use it for a short amount of time and then wait for another year to use it again...
I say YES to unlocking halloween mask's!!

I have no issue with the masks you mention: I agree that consitency is the key.
The Marketplace is not my main concern either, but the ease by which these masks were previously obtained would lead to a prevelance of them, should the Halloween "toggle" be permanently switched on. This could actually destroy their RP value, as they would become common-place.
Lets also be realistic about the value of this proposed change: can anyone cite me a good example of the currently available masks being used for an RP purpose? Would this dramatically change with the release of additional masks?

I couldn't disagree more. This is a defeatist attitude which allows SOE to justify never reinstating a LET. May be that's an unrealistic attitude and I will be told to "Wake up, Neo." but I am also a supporter of identifying an advantage to any change to be made. Let's see...
This suggestion has been started in a drive towards allowing us to continue the MxO story and to improve the potential for RP: you don't need to PvP in an Oracle mask.
I predict that unlocking the "main" character masks would simply make us susceptable to God-Modding and make us prone to less reputable types who could completely ruin the surviving RP community. Danielle Wright was a previous interacting character within the Live Events; has her mask been used in any worthwhile manner, as yet?
The only compromises I would offer would be for LESIG to be given access to these masks; on application to the Devs and lasting the duration of one log-in. Or they could be offered as reward items, in a similar style to the Perp FX.
so when can we expect these mask's to be unlocked......

not an option!
mxo isn't probably gonna make it to halloween this year... unlock now so we can have our last bit of fun in this game!

Now that was more prophetic than even Johnny realised!
Since we certainly won't be getting a Halloween event ever again, let's just bring it forward and "flick the switch" at 23.59 hours June 30th: my understanding is that we will be left to our own devices from then anyway.
How about that, huh?
