This thread is for how to improve the very start of the game, before even jacking in it should be something to remember.

So this is what I propose, something that could easily be done to help new players see what this game is really all about.

At the very start when your making a new charactor you see right before it a couple little movies, the first 1 should be a sort of introduction into the world of MxO. As in someone could be speaking to you telling you about the game and story and such. The next movie you should see is a more high paced action movie put together by fights from Events, pvp at mara or just really cool things that you can do in mxo. After that movie you wont be making a charactor yet, you will choose, Male or Female and a Blue pill Name. You will then wake up in a room much like the ones used in the start after you make your charactor. This area you live in will be a sort of training ground but you cannot train yet, you're still a blue pill. You cannot suicide in this either as to be able to jack into the matrix quicker...

You are in a cut off area of the city, not to big, much like a construct, all the rooms in the building you are in are open, the rest of the small area is mission area closed. After you leave your bedroom  you will get a Knock knock message coming from the front door. When you open the door there will be a contact standing in front of it, click on him and you will recieve a promt telling you that you have a package and he will trade you a Cell Phone, use the cell phone and you get a mission for inside of the area as a blue pill. The mission will be a Recuriting mission where you go and meet someone in a near by building. Opon entering the building the cell phone will tell you in a mission promt that you need to hurry and get there quickly because the Feds are after you. You will then have to travel through a couple doors, when you do a Agent will be standing there /crossarms and say something like Mr. or Ms "insert last name" Please return to your home. They will not shoot at you just kinda like a hurry up sorta thing heh.

When you enter the mission area you will walk into another room and talk to the Redpill with the name, he will tell you about the matrix and give you the choice to take the blue pill or the red pill. Take the blue pill and you are teleported back to the apartment that you started in, take the red pill and a little movie will pop up of a hand taking the pill, then falling over looking at the red pills staring down at you. After this I think another movie should play with just words on the screen, something like "This is not a dream." "You will understand in due time"

After that, you will be able to create your RSI, then you are sent back into the area with the blue pills. There will be a contact on your list for zion in this area, the contact will have 1 mission that sends you to a building that you will need to learn how to fight in and shoot and stuff. After that you will be sent to a room inside of a building with a phone in the middle of a table. Clicking the phone will let you jack into the matrix, this will start a new little movie, explaining that the truce is now broken, the machines will attack anyone that works for Zion and alittle background story on each of the orgs. Then you find yourself at the area we all start.

Tell me what you all think, feel free to add to it or disagree with whatever I put here. Ty

agree with idea but I can see some ppl saying that we are on A limited budget and this would take too much time and effort,etc...blah blah blah... for reason A,B,C    lol    happens all the time.   yup there is many deads ends here hate to say cus other dumb games get more attention for whatever reason.

Yar I would make a character on ever server for an RP experience like that. BUT no cinimatics for those movies. No time for Rare to make that mission, "construct" text, creation system, menus, and character system on top of the normal Veteran player content, and the LEs/updated missions.

/macro MxORules /target SOE; /invoke intellegent_buisness_decision; /cheer

System: Target cannot be found.
System: Must have a valid target to use this ability.
System: You cheer.

For once Skull you've come up with a pretty nice concept. SMILEY Little rough on the edges but sounds like a nice idea, gives you more of a linking with your bluepill life and what it takes to become a redpill. But yea, budget, SOE, database, etc...

I would love something like that. But as the others have said, if only MxO had the funds and staff to make it happen...

Glad you guys liked it, came up with it earlier today when I was thinking about new players coming into the game. I know that the funds for mxo are small but this isn't really a hard thing to make happen, Changing the begining of the game would help newer players see the rping aspect of the game and the cinematics would be there to show how awsome some of the pvp and dueling/events can be.

Just a thought but it would also really add to the suspense before even entering the Simulation as a redpill and begining the grind.

I'll add more ideas as to how better help Newly awakened Redpills figure out the game and really, something, some kinda lowbie quest in tabor should be added, I'll think of it and write it down once I have it really worked out. Stay tuned.

Actualy it is.

1. New movies being made. Huge task in itself, don't believe me? Go try make one, see how easy it is to make a quality commercial quality cinematic/movie.
2. House area/wake up room. Granted this wouldnt be a huge undertaking, but it would need to be like the constructs, seperate, and we all know how long those took to come into MxO. (3 years if anyone has forgotten)
3. Mission type set up for being contacted to take a red pill.
4. Another movie. (see 1.)
5. More mission setups.

Granted it all sounds simple enough (yea right) but in the end it boils down to messing with the setup of the begining of the game, which hasnt been changed since release. Why? I'm going to take a wild guess and go with database on this instance. SMILEY

Like all other ideas, they aint happening untill we get more devs, to get more devs we need a significant ammount of subscriptions, to get the subscriptions we need advertising. I'd suggest working on ideas for advertising more than ideas for game changing. SMILEY

Alright, we know full well that this thread infact the Dev Round table is for ideas, shooting ideas down and saying it's not possible due to money issues is irrellevant. The ideas are there, regaurdless of money problems so maybe 1 day the devs will get an idea and go with it. What is the point of getting more subs when the begining of the game looks like it does? Outdated. New players will be like oh how cool untill they realize what the Oracle said in the cinamatic is all lies, not to mention she is dead, Agents will attack you if you go zion, hell they attack anyone if they don't have the nodes.

This is a newer game now adays, AT, After Truce breaks we are in a war like game now adays and it should be treated as such. And just creating a new charactor is alittle lame as far as I'm concerned, no resistance from the system at all the way it is. No rping factor, just a bs seriously old bunch of areas that have no real instance in the story or even feel of the matrix.

This idea is to help new players see what this game is really all about, but people continue to shoot good ideas down, first off it's not there for you to shoot down, it's there for you to disagree with or agree with. Money is not the problem, it's how we see the ideas and respond to them that get the devs attention.

Now I'm sorry for that but it had to be said, now to go on to my little Quest to help new players.

After the little area in which we all are first awakened, you should be directed towards Tabor Park, in the park there should be 10 new NPCs that give information to new players, information on how to equip stuff, how to level up, what's best to do in the matrix, Constructs, Datamining, Quests for when they hit higher lvls. Aswell as a area where you can click on a npc in the park and train with an npc spawned at your lvl as many times as you want. Kill that NPC 10 times and trade in the items it drops for a nice pair of gloves that give accuracy 1 pt to everything and 5% Health and IS regain.

I will think of more later, as of now this is as far as I get to helping the new players to this game, if anyone else has an idea for how to better help new players once they are ingame pls feel free to post em.

Just removing the Oracle intro cinematic from automatically playing and placing an NPC at Uriah NE who, upon clicking, will give a brief summary on what has happened (say a summary of the last couple of chapters as a full summary would take a lot of reading). The NPC can also point out to the new player the locations of the book stores where they can experience all the events of the past and explain how they can view the cinematics in the LA.

The first cinematic is the Chapter 1.1 cinematic and is entirely relevent to the story, but only if that person is going to follow the story. I would be nice to put in a General Cinematic because I think one would be needed, but I doubt it'll happen.

The intro mission does what it's meant to and introduces a new player to basic gameplay, that's all, I see no reason to change it unless it mentions anything outdated.

Posting ideas is fine but really, you have to think about plausibility with what resources we have right now, not what the Dev's may have in the future as it's very unlikely that resources will increase over time. New game engine cinematic - very doubtful, new intro mission - possible but unecessary especially one as long as you say and would have to be played through everytime a person makes an alt (unable to suicide) etc... Not everyone plays for the RP, they wanna get into the game as quickly as possible.

I see where your coming from with this idea.. but to me it seems a little long winded for starting a game Skull.

Maybe a shortened down version of what you say would be handy.

Honestly how many new starts would have the patience to go through all that?  Theres a certain element of "Let me shoot the hell outta something" when you join a new game id say.

I agree fully that the introduction to the game really needs updating its just a matter of finding the correct approach.

I meant to say Vins idea seems to hit closer to me.

Although it'll be a good way to begin the game, after creating several characters I'm sure a lot of people will have enough of the introduction (I for one always skip the tutorial, in almost any game when making a second or third character). The focus should be on the actual continuing gameplay rather than the first minutes of the game. No boring gameplay can compromise the best of introductions if you want people to stay subscribed.
If the tutorial is so cool that you want to replay it over and over then there's something wrong with the game. See the COH/V series, where creating a character is just as, if not more fun than playing the game itself.

There, a post that doesn't mention "low budget and lack of staff"

If money wasnt the problem this game would have been successful long ago. Vania put it best, new ideas are fine, but they have to be plausable to the current game situation, if you keep putting up ideas that are so far out there heck it could possibly be considered spam.

If the devs had the money to implement all the good ideas that have come up over the last 3 years, MxO would easily be the single biggest MMO in the world. No kiddin'. Also the most awesome, too, which it already is, but anyways.

I know, I know, but my ideas are not spam they are simply things I think up on the spot and put em here for people to discuss.

I simply thought if you have a certain way of looking at it from a new players point of veiw, you want something that will wow them, if they are not wow'd at the begining they might just stop playing from just looking at the bs at in the toturial.

And I ment in the blue pill part you cannot suicide, after you make the RSI you can suicide all you want. Duh, Blue pill suicide is permanent... lol

I'm only putting ideas out there to see if people might like it or not, I don't think it would be implemented just cause I say it should, I'm simply brainstorming ideas for the game in the area of the forums where you are supposed to...

I'll stop for awhile and do like ron white says, "Next time you have a thought, let it go." Because I see all I will get is not really discussion on the topic but bs about bugets and how many devs we have. GG guys, I'll shut up then if that's what you want.
