I am disgusted Walrus how you are traveling around whereas all the other poor devs are stuck in the office fixing bugs.  Keep up the good work Devs (not including Walrus lol)  SMILEY

There is some understandable resentment floating around this thread, but I think think we should be careful to aim it where it is deserved.  The coders that brought us these new forums did the best job they could.  Errors in a task of this magnitude are inevitable, so don't blame the programmers.

The fault lies with the SOE executives who thought it was cool to let an entire game of paying customers do their testing live instead of doing the testing in-house first.  The point is well taken that we pay for the game, and not the forums, but an equally important point is that these forums are the main tool of our volunteer live event staff.  LESIG does hard work for no compensation, and even less recognition, and as I understand it, oversights in security on these new forums have led to many of their plans for the future being exposed.  Foul-ups of this nature transcend simple mistakes and are clear cut cases of bad management.

The work of LESIG, and the ability to keep that work secret until the proper time is of paramount importance to this game's ability to even begin to deliver on its promise of evolving dynamic content, and I am disappointed to see that the executives and decision-makers at SOE have still failed to realize this.

We may be the smallest community of the SOE "family", but does that diminish our importance, or the value of our time, effort, and money?  The answer should be no, but SOE's actions in this regard say otherwise.SMILEY

Hey guys, look at it like this, we're STILL HERE!!!

Despite the SOE buyout, the server moves, the forum changes, we are still here. We are showing them that no matter what they throw at us, we can take it and still stand tall.

So, I say BRING IT! Do your worst! Because when it comes to fans (short for fanatics), MxO has the most die-hard, dedicated group an MMORPG could want. They can't break us and they can't kill us, and they certainly can't silence us!

So when they come for us, make them remember. . .This is MXO! AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID!!!!!

..::eh, sorry for that last, got carried away::..SMILEY

Besides, they had to test it somewhere. Why not us? Are we not tough enough to deal with it?

Yeah, until these same SOE Execs decide to pull the plug, which at this rate doesn't seem to be too far off.

Too angry at SOE to say anything rational atm.

Faith lost is a terrible waste. Seriously though, we are a community of paying customers, and should be afforded at least the illusion of respect. The Matrix Online is a game, not a beta test for DC Comics Online. I know (and praise) the actual dev team of MXO has been working hard on this game, but when the mother company doesn't give a crap about whether this game succeeds or fails as long as they keep it open for probably the lenghth of time they're contractually obligated for DC Comics, what do we do?

.................................................

*ed* Several hours later to prove my point.

I'm totally new to this game and am very confused by all I'm reading on these boards.  I don't understand why everyone keeps saying SOE doesn't care about the game and doesn't care if it fails.  Maybe I'm just too new to see past the surface here, but it just seems to me that a company as large and successful as SOE is in a position to pick and choose their investments.  It makes no sense to me that they would have bought this game and invested any time, money, or resources into something that they just don't care about.

Personally, I saw the fact that they bought it as meaning this game has a future in spite of all I'd heard previously so I decided to try it.  Needless to say I'm totally sold on it and MXO has at least one new fanatic. SMILEY  If someone could clue me in on why a company such as SOE would waste anything at all on something they don't care about, I'd appreciate it.  (And no, I won't buy the tax-write-off-for-business-failure theory.  This game is too good for that.)

Or maybe they wanted DC comics and Matrix Online was a buy one get one free deal.  Its as if eveyone is trying to wash their hands with this game.

Ya know, a couple of other posts pretty much some up about how I feel about the forum transition, maybe even more after reading the OSOTLG this week (about the third time I think) and that is that we were pretty much the test subjects for the forum and not much can be done to change that fact.

Maybe we have less data then some of the other forums, doesn't make much difference from our point of view though, we're still paying for the service and the number of bugs that were present at launch and the number of what I consider standard features which pretty much all forum software includes now which are still missing from is pretty astounding considering how long this has likely been in developement. I also pretty much fail to see why a small public beta wasn't tested with data from several forums. 10 posts from admins/tech/mod/hidden forums with a lmited number of users would have shown up the huge security flaw that was obviously these. Also if I remember rightly, were the forums openned at the end of the day? In which case that left no oportunity for this to be corrected soon after discovered. From my point of view being in the UK it was viewable for a whole day, I know being in the PST timezone it makes a difference, but still would it have made much difference waiting the extra 12 hours which I think had been allowed for the forum transition before they were opened?

Maybe this is me finally doing my huge forum rant, I don't know but I'm still a bit pissed off about the whole thing and the more I think about it it makes me wonder whether I want to hang arround through all of this again?

We'll have to see.

The two teories I believe more reliable are: the licence for the DC Comics mmo, and the interlock tecnology (they learn it from mxo to apply to other games). If you see interlock in DC comics you will have the answer.

Why they don't care if it fails? Well, they do care, but they won't waste their resources to prevent it to fail. Look at what happened in the last patch, the game (like most)  break so easilly, and doing a mayor upgrade (which will be a neccessary investment for mxo) will take pretty much the same resources they can put in making a new game. Plus mxo is not their product, its monolith's product, so for the executives has less sentimental value. But at least they are not shutting it down, like it'd probablly happened if soe didn't take it over.

So we won't see more resources in the game if it can't afford them by itself (i.e, more subscriptions). I even doubt the amount of subscritions currently can afford the small staff we have. Probably, if there were a 4th movie in production (a prequel?), the game will get some extra love.
