This did not work for me. I'm running an 8800 GT. I still get insane lag inside buildings with NPCs in them. Especially in dungeons. In a dungeon the game is totality unplayable. It lags my whole computer, my vent gets choppy and my latency bar shoots to full then if I go outside I'm lag free. It's not my PC either. I have a P4 Dual-core 2.6ghz with 2gigs of ram. I put the fix into my options.cfg and I also made a file called useropts.cfg but still nothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I /wrists.

Sure its useropts.cfg and not useropts.cfg.txt?

And did you remove the code from your options.cfg?

Open up useropts, make sure they're pasted in properly. Resave. Make it read only. See what happens. And you're on XP, not vista, right?

Make sure you paste them in without the spaces and * at the beginning. I've updated Fu's post to remove those so you can copy and paste it directly. Should look like this in the file:
modellighting_enable = 0 modellighting_ambadd_r = 0.33 modellighting_ambadd_g = 0.33 modellighting_ambadd_b = 0.33

Feedback: XP: Lag has dropped, possibly in half. There is still some rendering lag, but I can navigate through a huge building faster with more accuracy. (Used to run by doors and the like). Vista: Nothing to do with the faces (I wanted to see out of curiosity)
Keep hunting!
Hmm, apparently I copied it when he had the typo in it the night before, and so it didn't work right. All lag has been removed. This worked PERFECTLY. I'd give it Incubus' Stamp of Approval, but can't find his stamp. Kinda weird though how it seemed to not lag as much when I tested this morning. Maybe it was being kind.

Yeah it is all in there correctly, I don't know whats up but its aggravating to say the least especially when I just bought this vid card like two weeks ago and spent a small fortune on it Thanks for trying though everyone... I'm going to throw vista on a separate hard drive for now and play off that. Even though I hate vista it fixes this problem for some odd reason but it runs every other game I play like crap.

As a brand new player to MxO, I have to admit this problem is greatly frustrating. Having an 8800GTX, I certainly had not forseen having any video issues with the game. However, I am enjoying my time within the Matrix and am doing my best to just push through the issue. I have noted a few things about different mission levels that may or may not be helpful to anyone dealing with or attempting to fix the issue. Depending on the building's load out (office, slum, hotel, apartment etc) The problem seems to be intermitent. For example, while I am doing missions in Richland in a hotel or apartment themed building, I have no video lag. But, when going to most of the Hideouts or in the office/abandoned building templates, the issue is extremely persistent. I could see the abandoned buildings being very different as they have alot of space to render due to so many walls being destroyed etc. But for the life of me I cannot figure out why I have the issue in an office building when it is essentially the same as an apartment building, only with different textures. Anyway, I hope this helps someone root out the problem! edit: Hey, look at that, a workaround... I'll have to try that tomorrow when I get off work.

It's worked for me, I was a bit disappointed that it had turned model lighting off outdoors aswell, I had assumed it was an indoor only variable.
I do still lag in gang hideouts, Eber casino for example. Only in certain parts of the hideout, usually I would open a door or turn a corner and It was the familiar stutter. Is there some lighting or model effect being used there that could still cause issues?

Based on the hotfix, does it just mean the card can't render it?

What's interesting about this is that in the other post that was closed I stated that I had this exact same problem on Jedi Academy and SWAT 4, when I turned off Dynamic Lighting it went away. Guess everyone ignored that lol.
Thanks for the fix!
