Hey everyone, I got an Geforce 8600 GT for Christmas. I had a couple questions, and I was hoping you all would be able to help me.

1.) I've heard about the 8800 problems, does it extend to the 8600 and if so; to what extent?

2.) Where should I get the drivers for this card? I know bonopi's post back in 05 mentioned something about XtremeG 81.84 v.2. I didn't know if that was still the best kind of driver for mmos or if I should just get it from the manufacturer or Nvidia's website.

3.) I want to film using this card and when I do, i lose alot of frame rate and everything becomes choppy. This is strange because Madbent's Geforce 7600 films just fine.

4.) I get some choppiness when I'm not filming, is that the lag people are talking about with the 8000 series?

5.) If the problem applies to all of the 8000 series, anyone know how soon the card will be able to pwn in MxO?

Basically, could someone give me a break down of this card, or really should get my drivers etc. I really appreciate it!

Its the whole 8 Series card that have the problem, so yes the 8600 has the same problems as the 8800 and so on.

I just use Nvidia to get my drivers.

If filming indoors you will lag with windows XP

Outside I get no choppiness at all just when I enter into a building.

How soon? Who knows, been awhile since the 8 Series cards came out and still no fix for MxO, Every other MMO has a fix but not us.

Kybutra is correct there. There's a large thread on this, Mercio. I have the same card with WinXP as a virtual machine and it only lags indoors. Meaning missioning is horrible, but everything else is fine.

From what I can tell in this thread: GeForce 8800GTX - Major indoor lag!?

1. Yes it extends across the whole 8000 series same problems across the board.
2. It is best to get the approved Drivers from nVidia, you can also use their beta drivers but as of yet there are no fixes to the problem with MxO.
3. The choppyness is a symptom of the problem with the 8000 series unfortunately.
4. If it's indoors then yes, apart from any existing lag, the 8000 series tends to cause extra lag, outside (on XP) the 8000 series works beautifully.
5. MxO Dev's and SoE cannot say when this will be fixed, they have to coordinate with nVidia and currently nVidia seems to be ignoring the problem as the problem is not listed in their known problems list despite the number of complaints they've had about it.

There is no guarantee that the 8000 series will ever 'pwn' MxO, but those with the card already and those thinking of upgrading (ie me) live in hope that it will be sooner rather then later. If they release the 9000 series or the next generation of graphics card and it suffers the same problems you can take it that they will probably never be proactive in fixing the problem.

yeah I tried filming outside, and I got choppiness. I need to run the performance check on the card still, and update the drivers. (to nvidia) so that may help the outside while filming.

Thanks for the speedy responses! Anyone have anything else to add or have a different take on it?

New Nvidia driver for the 8 series came out last week, btw.

Doesn't fix the problem with MXO.
