Basically this is an OOC discussion about the interesting things that
occur IC while playing the Matrix which 'mirror' certain things in the
true world we know while we aren't playing.

That, for instance, the crew I'm a part of: The Swordfish. We're a
montley bunch and each of us have a role but surprisely enough we are
virtually the Matrix counterpart of the Belafonte and crew based in a
movie named 'The Life Aquatic: With Steve Zissou'. The captain of both
the Belafonte and the Swordfish is a character defined by being a
fading old man type who's laid back,
enjoys women, and has a mission. The first mate (My character is the
first mate, hah) is there for the support of the captain, urge on the
new recruits, and always wishes to have a greater role on things ("How
come I am not leader of A squad ever?!"). Both the Belafonte and the
Swordfish crews are driven by a likely goal: To find something and kill
it (Swordfish wants to find Espi and kill him; Belafonte wants to find
the Jaguar Shark and kill it).

In fact I have talked to Jobi (The captain of the Swordfish) about what
actor would be right to play Sykin's role as a Matrix character. Before
we had figured out the strange tie-in with The Life Aquatic he
immediately said Willem Defoe, the actor who plays the first mate in The Life Aquatic.

There's also many other things alike that we have noticed with our
roleplaying on the MxO with well known movies and books, including
Boondock Saints and The Dark Tower series.

How about some of you? Maybe you've noticed some crazy stuff...

This is gonna sound really bad...

When I decided to start aiming for my character to become Masked, it was based around him wanting to 'feel' again, and the beating he took off Espi was the first thing to do that in a while...

That managed to remind "me" of what it felt like to be alive, and seeing that life flowing through Espi's eyes made me want it even more...

Anyway, my girlfriend was quizzing me about the game because she saw me writing an insertion to the Evolution Of The Wicked chapter.

When I explained my character being driven by his desire to feel again, she said it was similair to something that was in..... Buffy The Vampire Slayer :smileyindifferent: (said it would sound bad :smileytongue: )

So anyway, she made me sit down and watch one of the episodes she was referring to, and apparently Buffy died and went to heaven... after she was pulled out, she didn't "feel" alive anymore... and took drastic steps to get that feeling back...

And there you have it... my current RP tangent is inspired by Buffy the bloody vampire slayer.... terrible :smileysad:

No, no, that is entirely fine! The fact that you came up with the idea
without the outside influence makes it unique. In fact the story behind
my character Sykin, as he becomes more powerful in the Matrix (As he
levels up), is that he begins to loose his feelings more and more and
developes a greater sense. Things like pain, smell, taste, touch, and
being either hot and cold have been lost to Sykin. It sounds like the
same happened to King--I wonder how Sykin will view his ultimate loss
of feelings once he reaches his ultimatum (Level 50) and what he will
do...

There is also another thing that sounds like King's dilemma. I want to
say 007: The World is Not Enough in where the villian was shot with a
bullet in the head that didn't kill him and caused his nervous system
to die so that he could not feel physical situations at all...

With King its more a lack of emotive sensation rather than actual loss of physical feeling... he can still feel pain, get the emotional reactions to that pain have gone, things like fear, dread, suffering... they have all pretty much faded away into nothing... pushed out of his mind by his 'awakened' state...

Previously, the logical chain reaction substituted this... ie-if he was attacked, he would seek revenge, as it was the logical thing for him to do... for a while he mistook that for anger and feelings of vengeance, but it took his face-off with Espi to make him realise that he had been fooling himself... and to make him actually feel fear...

Since that day he has been tormented by thoughts of his bluepill family, plagued with his memories... love, family, friendship... that is what has led him into the arms of the Masked

He sees violence as a way to make him feel even more... and he needs that feeling to remind him of what he's fighting for, which is a return to normality through reinsertion...

However as his emotions rebuild themselves... he is becoming more and more capable of the whole emotive spectrum... whether things such as guilt, remorse or conscience will creep in remains to be seen.

So you see now why Darth Vader is so cool?

Haha, just messing around. That was a very cool character description
right there... I love villians and the greatest villians always have
these impeccable minds, this noteworthy feeling in themselves that the
world is wrong and evil and that everything they do is right and
without sin.

...Eventually I hope to draw some ties with such an 'impeccable mind'...
