One of the many reason things are as they are. The entire community has gotten severely clique-ish and honestly just overall rude for no reason. If it's not the devs (or lack thereof) driving people away, it's the players. Always one or the other.

Perhaps, but I do remember when I was new I didn't go around blaming my lack of knowledge/skill/experience on the game. In this case, my response was appropriate to the originating comment, imo.

Besides, the amount of people showing willingness to help in this thread alone let alone the Redpill rescue section seems to show that overall the community is still one of the better ones out there with regards to aiding new players.

I know right.  There has been absolutely nothing in the last couple of years or so that could have happened that demotivated our community and turned some of us into jaded, angry little subscribers who feel nothing but disdain for how the greatest MMO was tossed aside like a forgotten toy.

No reason at all!

Its really ironic we have this critique of MxO players lately ...from a little while after launch (after the ADHD kiddies got bored and left) right up until a few months ago, I daresay we were the nicest, most civil, helpful and friendly group of players you'd ever find in any MMO.  Gee, I wonder what happened?  Hmmm....

Spolied, selfish whiney brat!  Cry moar, QQ- Head!  Why are you ruining it for the rest of us??????????  Stop thinking bad thoughts, you're gonna let Tinkerbell die!

Oh and the original quote is "You'll get nothing and like it!"

I get what you mean, I used to play this game pretty heavy myself until I just got fed up and left. (Decided to check it out again recently, I always do have the best timing...)

Still though, jaded or not, I seriously believe that every new player should be treated like gold regardless, especially with the current situation. You have people that've been here for years packing up and leaving, and being replaced by people who are new, and quite frankly couldn't care less. It's much easier to drive them away, and they'll turn around and leave as quickly as they came.

So what if he goes off on a stupid rant about how "the game sucks". All you have to do is show him the way.

Hardly makes sense to reply with "Yeah? Well you suck!", no?

The fact that the OP never bothered to respond to those of us here who went out of our way to post helpful advice, even though its in the wrong forum, speaks volumes.  Croesus is 100% right about this.  And, why should we sugar coat anything anyway?  If there's no support, no content, no development from SOE anymore than there's no amount of sucking up to new players that can turn around the mass exodus of the player base.

Precisely.

Plus tbh, suggesting to the guy that the problem may not be down to the game but down to him is showing him the way. I've helped no end of new players but I always treat them as I would any player old or new and as such a polite or even normal request for help goes down a lot better than a rant.

Personally, I don't see the point of mollycoddling new players, especially now. It's all well and good giving them a big welcoming hug, wrapping them up in a metaphorical big fluffy blanket, making them feel special when all your succeeding in doing is increasing the likelihood of them packing up and leaving when the blanket gets taken away (because face it, noone gets treated like a new player for very long) and the reality of the situation sets in.

However that may just be me and as I said before the other responses to the question (ignoring the tone of it) hardly exhibits traits which Amad3us claims the whole community has.

New players should know that there is no support or updates for this game. It doesn't stop anyone from enjoying the content that's already there.
