Okay, so i'm not the greatest Role Player in the world, or even do it all that regularly...but i have dabbled from time to time and can find it to be kinda fun. Problem is now with Camon C (Roleplay central) having become all but deserted recently, casual RPers and probably even die-hard RPers have  found it alot harder to get any  kind of events , stories etc. happening.

I know alot of factions do inter-faction RP like the Trust, Family Grigori, Merovech INC etc. and thats cool and groovy and all but leaves out alot of people who aren't in RP factions, new players who wanna RP and don't know where to begin as well as possibly hindering some of the stories (e.g wars between a group of zion's and machines, merv's helping out EPN or whatever).

So i'm asking if anyone is interested in putting together some sort of list or means of communication between people of diff orgs, factions, timezones who wanna get involved in some way, if even slightly with any kind of RP/RPVP as well as oppening up possibilities with storylines, casual events etc. (I know there is groups that create complicated well planned out events that pop up now and then, but it would be good to be able to throw something together one day and be doing it the next, or the same day. Some casual RP to give people something to do, rather than sitting around doing nothing).

Now i have no real experience with RP stories etc, apart from occasionaly participating in a bit here and there, but i did enjoy when Warriors Of Valor would have a faction storyline RP day and would invite people to particpate (one week i was an evil machine assassin, the next a bunch of us where merv operatives out to steal data from them resulting in a big pvp battle outside club sanguine) and even today, while thinking about writing this standing at an empty camon c and saying 'i wish something would happen here again', Tranque magically appeared and very cryptically said he was sure something would - cut to me suddenly getting a call from a 'ZionController' and spending the next hour or so trying to awaken a bluepill (which probably by an experienced RPer's standards could be considered the worst awakening ever (due in no part to the strange guy with no shirt on at the extraction site and the hoover-a-tron)).

The fact that i was there bored and Tranque put on a little event to amuse me, and hopefully him too, shows that people like participating in these kinda things still.

So to sum up, i don't literally want to bring everyone back to Camon C, but just create a means to get people interacting with others the way they used to, and some way of  letting everyone know who would all be up for this sort of thing, even if it's just to play exile number 3 for ten minutes, get killed and go back to datamining or whatever

So, opinions? Anyone think it's a rubbish idea? Know of a good way to implement such a thing? Like sandwiches?

(Let's hope someone at least posts a response...that would be embarrassing if this thread just died )

ZionControI normally only dishes out Awakening missions, or other sorts of things (Nothing for my gain personally, or for me to boss around anyone, its just to incite some good old fashioned RP)

In the past Zion Controller Lysistrata has done many Containment Mini-events during Halloween to slow the Zombie Virus, and plays a good role in bringing zionites together for a collective goal.

((As for the why, as I said before, I like giving RP to others as much as I like doing it within my faction))

I've been busy either levelling an alt on Syntax for the Merv meeting next week, or running 11.3 missions, since I seem to have opened an impromptu Hel Stompers store for not-so-wayward EPNs, plus I've been running the National Novel Writing Month challenge this month, which has cut into my jack-in time. I'll pop by the next time I'm on.

I definitely know how you feel, Dulux; I've been there before, and I've made some observations about how it seems to work.  First, players are often inspired to create stories around the characters they already know . . . but it's hard to develop a character without access to RP opportunities, and it's hard to get involved in RP without a well-established character!  Second, people who design RP and player event content may be reluctant to open up the story to the broader community, and so they keep it limited to faction forums, or define it as a closed RP.  We've all been to player events where at least one person makes a total jerk of themselves trying to be funny, and no one wants to risk ruining their carefully-conceived story by putting it in the hands of people who don't respect a player's hard work and effort.  Unfortunately, this tends to lead to a presumption that any particular individual is not going to treat the story seriously until they prove otherwise, and the person can't really prove that they are serious until given an opportunity to participate.  It's like getting turned down for a job because you don't have on-the-job experience, but how do you get on-the-job experience before getting the job?  It can be frustrating.

So how does a casual RP'er get involved?  I suppose that Camon Central is one way to demonstrate that you'd like to participate in stories and player events.  (Myself, I get bored sitting around posing like a supermodel and being all philosophizy about war, the nature of reality, blah blah blah, and this may be why Camon has sort of wound down.)  I think it's more effective to just strike up relationships with people who you know as active RP'ers.  Most of these people are up for on-the-spot RP, so just give them a buzz and do what Tranque does: simply come up with a backstory for running a standard mission.  For example, you've just heard that a Zion courier was intercepted and the data stolen, and you need help tracking down the information and transmitting it to Control before the enemy has a chance to analyze it.  Bang.  You have an RP reason for running a standard "Retrieval" mission (and getting some info and potentially a Rep point), and an opportunity to do a little role-play without investing hours in crafting a backstory and plot.  It can be easy as that, and it's surprisingly fun to run a standard missing with an in-character motivation for doing it.  And all it takes is some initiative and a smidgen of imagination!

Hit me up, Dulux, I'm sure we can come up with something, even if it's just a brief eensy-weensy little RP story.

This.

Also, if I am even online, I'm generally trying to do something for Open Message Broadcast which means stirring up trouble (or attempting to) in a host of places. Honestly, Camon's fading is due to the slackening playerbase and further slackening of the RP community (i.e. little to no Machinist RP exists anymore on Recursion and there's equaly sparse Cyph participation). Axing liaisons didn't do it any help, either, since most of Camon's funcitonality was based upon players meeting to debate with other players about things, and especially if liaisons were there.

It's also part story. Right now... Well, there's not much to do with other orgs other than throw sticks and call insults, is there?

Which is why the story sucks right now.

Well thanks for the replies, but i guess my title was somewhat confusing... Bring Back Camon C! (METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING) I wasn't literally meaning repopulate the benches of Camon C with people sitting around chatting casually with their greatest enemy about the politics of wireframe men and which was better Marathon or Snickers, i was just meaning that Camon C  kinda represents the heart of roleplay on Recursion, and by bringing it back, i meant trying to find a way to open it up more to everyone and all that malarky.

My apoligies for the misleading jibbirish (this is why i don't create RP events, can you imagine? )

But if you guys wanna sit at Camon or not thats cool, was just trying to get a discussion happening on how to get it going a bit more. Hope that clears that up, i confuse myself sometimes.

I actually jacked in the other day to find myself in a similar situation.  I found myself wondering what hot spot had replaced Camon C.  I have some work to do with my computers before I can jack in and run missions for long periods of time without losing my mind, but I'm up for impromptu rp anytime.  Either in game or over xfire.

Thank god you're back! Recursion's RP community and the popularity of Camon Central hinge upon you.

((I've generally been running some small awakening type events within Syntax and Recursion although I find RL pops in at the worst times during these so hm, regardless its doing something better then nothing, and I have a bit of fun at them))

(( I'm slightly post-poning the mini-event I had planned for Thanksgiving and running it the first week of December, so keep your eyes out for a few odd Bluepills popping up and asking pointed questions about a missing persons case from three years ago...))
