I figured I would give the game a shot.

The tutorial seems to bug out on me.  I relogged and went straight into the Matrix blind.  Alot of stuff I've had to figure out on my own, but somethings still confuse me.  I started on Recursion.

1 - My biggest question.... PLEASE tell me there is a way to stop the mini map from spinning.  I can't get my bearings in it's current state, and spend half the time lost.  The compass doesn't seem to help much when I'm using the map.

2 - Collectors:  I've ran into a few collectors that ask for different items that I don't loot from npc's.  How do you know where to find these items when they don't say where to go?  If it's a chain like the beginning collectors, how can I find out where the chain starts?

3 - Missions:  I've done the beginning Zion missions and unlocked the standard missions.  The mission type is pretty straight forward.  No confusion there.  However, what's the difference between them?  XP, faction, etc.....   Along the lines of missions, I seen I can change the level of difficulty.  That's pretty straight forward also.  However, what does the time change do?  The mission lengths do not seem to change, at least from what I've noticed.  Finally, if I keep doing the same mission type, will it end eventually and make me start doing other types?

4 - Clubs:  What's the point?  I don't get it, other than there being a few vendors in them.

5 - Players:  I may see one or two here and there, but that's it.  Is it because I'm still in a low-level area?

6 - Local contacts:  Do they provide unlimited missions or do they end?

7 - Decompling Items:  According to the ability tree, my level isn't high enough to do it yet.  Is this correct, or am I missing something?  I'm currently lvl 11.

8 - Lastly Clothing:  Is there a way to tell if it's male of female clothing before-hand?  I'll think I found a nice upgrade, but only to find out I'm the wrong sex to wear it.

That's all that I can think of.  I'm an explorer so I'm always running around trying to figure out stuff.  If I could just get that mini map to stop spinning......

Thanks for any advise or insight!

1) Press the ; (Semicolon) key to bring up your atlas, it's easier to navigate by that sometimes.
2) The collectors generally accept items dropped by gangs in the same area as them, otherwise they will specify where to get the items.
3) Generally the length on missions has no effect on how many stages there are to them, you can do the same mission type over and over. The different types will usually award different amount of xp and require you to do different things.
4) Various Parties and Player Events are hosted in clubs.
5) Try Mara C, Tabor W, Tabor E, Camon N.
6) Each contact generally provides 5 missions.
7) Different items have different difficulties to decompile, there are clothes that increase your chance of success, but at your level you won't be able to decompile much.

Thanks for the info! SMILEY

Something else I forgot to ask.  When I was level 4, while running a mission for Mercury, a lvl 22 player came up and killed me.  Is it a faction thing that allowed them to do that?

If a level 22 player came up and killed you while you were level 4, 1 of a few things had to have happened.

  1. You had typed /pvp at some point, which would enable you for OvO (Organization VS Organization) PvP.
  2. You had accidentally attacked the player in question.  Perhaps you mis-clicked and targeted a player 'flagged' for OvO and attacked (or perhaps your Simulacrum, if it applies).
  3. You were carrying a luggable object or had been recently carrying one.  These objects will flag you for PvP whilst in your possession and for a time after.

1 - Not sure why it's spinning. Whatever direction is on top is usually the direction you are facing.

3 - Assassination missions typically give the most xp. Not sure what the size does, either. Try the archive missions. There is a vendor in a boostore in Moriah East. He sells tickets that you can activate past critical missions. They give lots of xp. You can also earn clothing and fx rewards. The drawback is that they don't reward Reputation. You need 50 reputation points to get all the new critical mission.

4 - Just for fun and immersive city.

5 - And Camon C.

7 - Make sure you level up your abilities.

Add me to your buddy list by typing /ca vesuveus and send me a tell when you see me on. I'll answer any questions you might have and give you a hand.

Are you on the Vector-Hostile instance? That particular server is all PvP, while Recursion and Syntax require you to type ./pvp (or attack a PvP flagged player character) before you can engage in it.

Again, thanks for the all the info SMILEY

I didn't typ anything for sure.  I guess I picked up something while doing a quest for Mercury that made me attackable, or I seen red and attacked.  Idk....I just figured there would be a level restriction.  18 levels above someone just doesn't seem.....honorable.  How is that I have to ability to attack any red I was to so choose without typing anything?  I seen some lvl 50's fighting each other, and I could have attacked (no matter how futile it would have been), but the option was there lol.  Is that them having the pvp flag?

If you attack a PVP flagged player you will automatically flag as pvp due to the fact that you have taken an aggressive action on a flagged player.  As for the lvl50s who were fighting but you couldnt attack them this was because the were dueling.  Just to explain there are 2 ways in which you can fight other players through the PVP system where by you flag as pvp or attack a player that is flagged where by you will then become attackable to anyone in a different organisation to your self.  For example if you are a zion operative meaning you have zion next to your name if you flag you can be attacked by both machine and merv operatives of any level.  The other for of player vs player combat is called a duel this is done by selecting a player and typing /duel.  which will send an invitation to duel to the player.  If the player accepts you will enter a duel where by only you and the other player will be able to attack each other.  if you die in a duel you will not suffer death effect and also when you click the reconstruct button will raise up on the spot with minimal health instead of going to the loading area.

If you didn't type anything, then you're probably on the Vector instance.

Considering he said he was level 4 when it happened, which server he's on wouldnt've make a difference. Based on his elaborative replies it sounds as though he picked up a luggable.

But yes, if you are on the Vector instance PvP is forced and without level restriction. If you're not a fan of this type of playstyle I'd suggest creating a character on one of the other servers before going too much further.

Whoops, sorry! It should have dawned on me that one of those things could have crossed your path. I just haven't seen any lately, which makes me wonder why it was in Urian...
