I took in interest in philosophy for my first two college years. After taking a course tought by a guy who didn't use his doctorate for about 25 years after he obtained it and who frequently said he "didn't understand this" or "would have to look that up" or that we would be "trying to make some sense out of all this," I decided I wanted to pursue other academic interests. But here's the essay I wrote for the first philosophy course I took, back in my Freshman year:

Linky

It's a basic analysis of some of the major philosophical concepts in the Matrix. I think it's what saved my grade in the class.

I've been interested in Philosophy ever since I learned about the ancient Greeks. Once I do get into a college and can handle it finanically, I hope to get some form of degree in a course on Philosophy among majoring in some type of literary field.

The Matrix rekindled the way I think, I think... Yes; at the time of seeing it, I was horribly bored in my life. True, the first time I watched it I sat back and went "Wow," and tried to absorb all the special effects, all of the aesthetics of the film. Then I started watching it again and again, soaking up its message, trying to try things together. My opinion is that it is a modern masterpiece (As many of you here can I agree, I hope) of many different forms of art. And still its messages can be reinvented and brought back into focus.

I think there's a course in one university about Post-Modernism and it basically, throughout all the terms, revolves around the Matrix... How slick is that?

EDIT: Excellent essay, Stack.
