Obviously this is not addressed to everybody, but I'm not sure where the sense of entitlement that's become so prevalent here comes from exactly. Perhaps it is a lack of perspective.
I fail to see how anybody has been "screwed over" by Sony, a corporation far too large to intentionally screw over such a small population of its clientele, and far too interested in the bottom line to go around making enemies out of customers. As far as I can tell, this game has been really fun and has had a great run. Just because nothing lasts forever doesn't mean you are owed anything. No one held a gun to your head and forced you to keep subscribing. There is nothing in the EULA that entitles us to fabulous MxO prizes till the sun burns out. I myself am very disappointed that I didn't find MxO earlier in its incarnation, but what can you do? These are the kind of problems you WANT to have.
In a time where there's major wars going on and people around the world are losing their livelihoods and even their homes, I find it repugnant that anybody has the nerve to complain so stridently about something they were very lucky to ever have in the first place at all. Yes, losing MxO would be incredibly disappointing, however, it's great to still have a roof over your head, heat in your home, food to eat, and a working computer among other amenities denied a large number of the world's population.
And at any rate, clearly the fate of our game is in our hands. We can either whinge and moan like spoiled brats about having our toys taken from us before we felt like putting them down, or we can take this thing and turn it into the best thing it could be.
Complaining that Sony makes no effort? Fine, let's show them how it's done, then.

I'm with you on that. I've personally gotten sick to death with all the energy wasted on whining and drama-inducing, when people could be using that energy to create good RP events and stories.
Lately, I've been reading White Wolf's World of Darkness sourcebooks, particularly for Mage: the Ascension. Yes, I'm aware that's their old line and it's been replaced by Mage: The Awakening, but I still find it fascinating. To me, MxO is in that same category: maybe the powers that be aren't creating new material for it, but that doesn't make it outlaw to take the material that is there and use it to have some fun with it.
QFT. Also, thread title = irony.
All right, Ive been here since late Beta, I'll post my thoughts:
Monolith gave up on MxO. If it wasn't for SOE aquiring MxO from Monolith after the mass exodus of the first subscribers... MxO would have died 3 or 4 years ago... whenever that was. As was stated back then, Monolith excels at making awesome single player and small muliplayer experiences... not Massive Multiplayer Online games... as we all saw with the launch of MxO. I'm not sure if Vets are just blinded by nostalgia, but MxO was in terrible shape back in the day. At least now the game is stable and is playable. Yes, I am aware that MxO's Dev staff had their jacks pulled by SOE, but at least the few they kept had their jobs for a few more years until now. So be thankful that SOE has kept MxO on life support for so long, MxO is now in a vegetative state... its up to us and our subscription money to keep life support going :p
And frankly, if any Dev that would be interested in coming to help MxO saw all the posts directed to Rarebit and SOE (who would paying said Dev) I wouldn't want to come to this shack in the woods either :p. Just enjoy MxO for what it is: a virtural table top RP game and chat room.
Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but that's exactly part of the "entitlement" she was referring to.
Sure, you've played this game for a lot longer, but guess what... it doesn't matter. No one cares. It doesn't change anything. Regardless of the roads that led us here, this is where we are now. So tout your beta caps proudly and spend your fifteen dollars each month to complain about the game and let me know where that gets you.

Bolding mine: I started playing in November of 2005, and I remember the game used to crash and freeze horribly every twenty minutes or so. And then there was the bug of March 2006, which caused launcher.exe, one of the vital files, to self-destruct after you ran a Full System Check. Yeek... scary.
I count myself fortunate personally that we don't bash our game like Star Wars Galaxies does. Has anyone seen the horrible epithets they hurl towards their dev team?
Also, i think the thread title was subliminal messaging. "Lighten Up" as in lighting up a match... to start flames...
CONSPIRACY!

I greatly doubt that: I think she was trying to get people to realize they're only making the situation more miserable than it has to be when they could be using their time, energy and passion to make something good from what we have here.
I know, I was trying to be sarcastic/funny.
Whoops, my bad! Sorry! My sense of humor is the first thing to go on standby when I'm sleepy. Plus, even when I'm fully awake, the shot synapses in my brain don't always detect scarcasm.
