I'm curious though, what groups are left that keep faction channels IC?

When my crew was active, I kept a policy of limited OOC conversations in my crew chat. When OOC is necessary for roleplay, I prefer voice communication. If that is not possible, I usually designate my team chat as OOC. This is not limited to crew members either; if myself and a few others were interacting with others in area chat, where heavy or disputable (high possibility of misinterpretations or lack of communication between players) I invite the outsiders into my team to better coordinate.

Please note that I'm not trying to force others into following my "rules;" I am simply offering example of what I look for and attribute myself to in roleplay.

Yeah, roleplay came to a screeching halt the moment the unlimits showed up... The storyline isn't bad, per se, its just that its once again focused on a common enemy. Things were much more fun when they pitted the organizations against each other.  Hopefully, after Anome's over with, we can get back into that nice groove we were in from Cryptos's arrival through Blue Sky.

I am still working on some shiet, levelling all the trees I want, doing faction stuff etc...but afterwards I had planned on being IC all the time in-game.  I also love PvP, and think there can be an easy balance between the two.

I have also been working on my RP, and it is true, most RP is hard to just come across these days, I am part of a couple running RP stories in-game but only cuz I heard of it through a very active captain.  As for factions that Rp in zion?  Dont really know of any to be honest...it seems to be mostly a group of individuals from different factions...

BTW PvP is nor about bragging rights and cqs, its fun =)

I've always felt that a good hub for Roleplay shouldn't be hardline, it should be a certain club, or even one of the lesser advertised interiors, a bar/pool hall. It lends a bit more of a setting towards roleplay, and it always gives you something ot start with if you're new to the community. A certain but, lesser populated club would be the best place to start to revive the roleplay community.

Hardlines have to much standard traffic, and they are just out in the open. If you're not hooked up with any group or faction, you hardly have a solid entrance to roleplay. Your choices are to jump in from the HL, wander around and eavesdrop. Atleast at a club or a bar, you can belly up to the bar, get a drink, and build up some steam before trying to interact with other characters or conversations.

There used to be a club where only RPers came, the Sphinx near Dannah West.
And a club is indeed nicer to RP than a hardline, as TPW. Although its harder to attract people to a club than a hardline.

But I'm all in favour of moving. TPW is boring anyway.

I hate talking about roleplay, since roleplay is an essential part of me, and doing so makes me feel like an elitist egocentric or something like that. I am sure I can be considered as one of the most experienced hardcore rper around, but no one ever seen me roleplaying. Why that? The character I decided to make.

Harpalos is a shy anti-social scientist.

Eric, the player, is a scientist, but an extremely social person.

Harpalos rarely says a word to others, but loves having meaningful conversations with the people he cares for(really not many...)

Eric must usually be asked to shut up.

The result makes a strange roleplay experience. I love to roleplay, to interact with others, to build stories. But mxo is my first mmorpg, and since I had no idea how it would be, I built Harpalos as my shell, allowing myself and my character to be 2 separate entities. Yes, this requires me to spend most of my time online doing no roleplay, except with Caillech, Harpalos' girlfriend. I would love doing much more. But it would be out of character going to public spaces and start creating bonds. So that leaves me few options for roleplay, and I got to admit, if it wasn't for Caillech with our daily rp, and our ongoing collaborative story (which I have no fear to claim as probably the biggest piece of written roleplay in the mxo universe), the game would be terribly boring for me.

A small rp faction would however be my dream. My crew is roleplay. It's easy, we're only 2 inside it. To have a full roleplay faction is something complicated however. With the game having less and less appeal, the number of veteran players go down, and makes the number of hardcore roleplayers go down. This is why most roleplayers are now isolated.

There are surely many solutions possible. Having a rp meeting spot is good, but that's not the best solution for the kind of character I play. I don't know if I'm alone in that situation, but if no, it would be something worth discussing with those giving interrest in enhancing their personal and collective roleplay experience.

As an old pen-n-paper roleplayer, I used to get together with my friends to have gaming sessions. The DM (GM, whatever) would have the quest already planned out, and we would do our best to screw it up! lol, jk. But it would be a planned deal, when we could all get together to play the game.

I've been trying to adapt this notion to MxO RP sessions. There's this 'feeling' that RP events have to be big or all-inclusive for the server. Or that they require a lot of backstory. I'd just like to have smaller, more frequent RP events that may be between my crew and another, or between my fac and another fac.  I just want, say, Sunday evenings to become known as the "RP event night" for my crew, faction, whatever.

The big difference is, many of us are in this game all the time. So, instead of looking forward to that once a week gaming session, we might actually be burnt out by the time things get started. So, I still have bugs like this to work out.

I guess the best thing we can do is post stuff like "best tips for RP events", etc.

~~~~~~~~~
And I didn't mean the only only reward for PvP was to brag and to earn CQ's. Course it's fun! I can't brag (cause I suk at PvP, lol) and I only have about 150cq's or something, but I still PvP cause it is fun. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers SMILEY
Mech - The Tetragrammaton (?), Veritas Lucis, TNG (?), Insomnia Diversion (?), HvFrt Tinity's Hope
Merv - Abaddon, Cosa Nostra (?),
Zion - HvCrft Swordfish II (they're still around I think), E PLuribus Neo - EPN (dunno how many), Morpheus Honor Guard (?)
Can't think of whole crews or factions...
There are people who think paticipating in Live Events is true Roleplaye and kinda flow with the story, but do nothing outside of the events.
All factions with an "?" mean that I don't know the extent of Roleplaying inside.
Meh.. for those few who know me, I'm doing Rp too (with... relative success, "godmodding" >.< is worst of my Rp crimes, i really try... not to).
In my time as Rper I fear I drop OOC much too often, unneccesarily. There are some players on Syntax that do Rp in PvP factions (by them commonly known as "Err Pee").
Rp is not only talking IC but also talking about the whole universe of possibilities in here. I'd really like to have some more players participate.
And yeah... hardlines shouldn't be the meeting points for Rping.
I dunno wehre you heard that we PvP from, but we hardly PvP. and in FC, we normally all talk in character, if we talk ooc, we take it to tells, or we use bracets.. but about 90 perfect of our faction chat is in character, and we've had alot of RPing going on lately, somes been in on it, some not. It just depends whose on at that time.
Hey hey, now... SMILEY I PvP and I invite all who wish to, to PvP with me. We try to focus more on the PvP as a means of driving the story or the RP we're engaged in, but I think it depends on the situation. I believe it's a matter of taste - some RP'ers tend to be more aggressive, some more passive and diplomatic. Some of the best players I've met excelled at both and I encourage them both, though my faction is overtly an RP faction. If that makes sense... SMILEY
Maybe so. SMILEY
...and as for FC, I agree with Chloe. I don't demand that people stay IC at all times in that channel, but I do (to show example to others) about 90% of the time. Also as Wolfess said earlier, using a voice channel is a good alternative for talking OOC as well as strengthen OOC communication - a lack of which can cause detrimental things to the RP.
I feel safe in saying as the Underboss, that Cosa Nostra is also a RP faction.  Most of us use brackets to talk OOC and we have had some RP in and out of faction going on as well.
We also haven't PvPed in a long while.  I kinda miss that. as role playing PvP can be a lot of fun!
