1) What is the combat upgrade like? Is it any diffrent than what the old combat was like.

2) Since I know they do not do full Live Events like on MxO, then are
there RP groups like my Syntax Player Live Event Team on some servers?

3) If you had one thing from SWG that you wanted in MxO and vice-versa, than what would it be?

I've just recently started on it, but have done a fair bit of forum trolling so i'll chime in first with my noob perspective...

1) What is the combat upgrade like? Is it any diffrent than what the old combat was like.

Although I obviously wasn't there previously, the CU is probably the first thing any SWG vet will tell you about when asked about the game.  Its the reason a lot of them left, and the main reason why, is that it introduced Jedi.

The game is set, I beleive, between Episode's V and VI - during which time, Jedi were all but extinct... the introduction of Jedi as a profession obviously spawned a wave of people acquiring it.  Jedi roaming all over the place despite their 'extinction' ruined the 'immersive experience' of a lot of people, and also created a lot more interest in the Bounty Hunter profession, which is, from what I gather, the best or the only way to track down and kill a Jedi.

To be honest, i've been playing for a week or so now, and i've only seen one Jedi.  For me, the CU thing isn't an issue simply because I wasn't there before it came into place, and i'm not really a die-hard SWG fan, so the immersive experience problem isn't as big an issue to me as it would be to most people.

2) Since I know they do not do full Live Events like on MxO, then are there RP groups like my Syntax Player Live Event Team on some servers?

It depends... i'd say its pretty much the same as mXo in its balance of those who want to roleplay, and those who just want to run around shooting things...

However SWG gives you more tool to build on your roleplaying experiences.  A small example is player-cities, where you can create guild halls, elect mayors etc, and really build the politics of your establishment... Theres also an outlet for you to pursue your roleplay path... a small example being reputation... if your character decides to slaughter a whole bunch of Tuskans.. then a few weeks down the line, if you bump into them, they will try and kick your *CENSORED*.  Thats only a minute way in which your roleplay character is given a bit more authenticity, as your actions actually can and in most cases do have ongoing consequences.

But as for finding Roleplayers - theres actually a way to search the entire community in-game for anyone who has noted themselves as a roleplayer.

3) If you had one thing from SWG that you wanted in MxO and vice-versa, than what would it be?

This is a tricky one... there is so much to choose from... its the features that attract me to SWG so much, rather than playing it because i'm a fan of the movies.

I'd go with player housing and everything that comes with it.

Being able to scout planets, find a suitable spot, apply for planning permission, acquire housing deeds, build them up, expand your city and create your own guild halls, city halls, cantina's, restaurants, shuttleports etc etc etc, and then being able to actually own your own house, control who accesses it, install storage, decorate it... that is one thing I would love to see a form of in MxO... although I wouldn't say no to the bulk of SWGs features to be brought over, particularly vehicles and the way in which xp and levelling is controlled.

Some of your details are off KC, but the spirit of it is basically
right. I'll try not to nitpick too much and just add some things to
what you said.

Jedi were already in the game prior to the combat upgrade. What caused
the Jedi problem after the combat upgrade is that they changed the
process you had to go through to become a jedi. Before the previous
path to Force sensitivity was sort of mysterious, it was very difficult
to just say "hey, I want to make my character a Jedi" and actually do
it.

Fast-foward to after the CU. Now there's a very fixed set of steps you
have to go through to get a Jedi, and as soon as someone figured out
the "guaranteed steps" to becoming a Jedi, every 12-year-old with waaay
too much grinding time on his hands had a Jedi character.

I've been in SWG on-and-off ever since its beta, and I'll
wholeheartedly agree with those who say the number of Jedi now breaks
the immersion. Before, if you ever saw a lightsaber get whipped out
(and it was rare) you'd stop and try to get a screenshot of you next to
the guy or something so you could show your buddies. My first day back
after the CU, I got off the shuttle and there were like 30 Jedi
slaughtering each other just to kill time while they waited for the
shuttle. "All but extinct" my @$$.

Jedi aside, the upgrades to the combat system itself were great, IMHO.
Whereas before combat was "I HAVE to get a doctor to buff me, and I
HAVE to have X armor, which is the hands-down best armor in the game,
and I need X profession 'cuz it does the most damage" now it's more
balanced. Only certain classes of characters can wear certain armor,
fixing the "best armor" problem. Each profession now has a very
specific role in combat, which helps team play. (Pistoleers as crowd
control, Combat medic as debuffers, etc.)

Thanks for that Friar... I knew that some of my details would be a bit hazy, but I think that goes to show how things are skewed by the people who do nothing but SOE-bash.

1) I took a sabbatical from SWG to play MxO in beta, after i hit lvl 50 in live i decided to go back to SWG for the combat upgrade, It's kinda like playing a different game altogether. Yes SOE did screw up a few things such as give 4x xp (sudden influx of grinding from padawan to knight within a week) and too many respecs. However i still very much enjoy the game, and i'm now in charge of my Guild on chimeara.

2) There are plenty of RP groups (at least one on each server as far as i know). I have taken part in a few RP events and of course being a Bounty Hunter i try to stay in character when hunting Jedi (ergo a sociopath).

3) Bounty Hunting System, thats be all and end all.

Actually the system was changed about a year ago, July-August 2004 iirc. In Pub10. SMILEY It's easier to grind jedi now though... Also the hologrind system before the current Village system wasn't too mysterious really. Just get some holocrons which tell you what profession to master to advance towards jedi and then finally grind all the professions until you get a message that you've unlocked.

Jedi are too many imo and one thing after a massive and huge bug fix to fix all bugs I'd like to see is a publish in which they delete all player jedi from the game... But that's never going to happen. Jedi make money, the possibility of becoming a jedi attracts new players, loads of players are already jedi = more money to SOE. At the end of the day, it's all about how much money they got during that day.

I seriously have had and still have a bit of hope that the SWG Dev team would make some nice changes and fix all the bugs in the game currently... But I've also realized the SOE management gives the Devs too short deadlines and only care about how much money the game makes. SMILEY

And indeed, the CU changed the SWG combat system completely. It's all different from the old system. And mostly it changed to better imo. SMILEY
