Hello, I started playing this game awhile back, but stopped for a bit. I'm now ready to pick the game back up, but cannot connect, and haven't been able to since I reinstalled. When trying to log into my old character I get the message -

"Failed to reconnect to Margin Server. Shutting down"

And if I try to create a new character I get -

"TCP_CONNREFUSED"

"Failed to reconnect to Margin Server. Shutting down"

When logging into my regular character, I get all the way to loading character with no problem. When creating a new character I can get all the way through to where I click accept before that message.

I'm eager to play, and finally have interest in the game again, but haven't been able to play and it's getting extremely frustrating. I have went through and checked, double, and triple checked that all ports are indeed open, and they are. I have googled, and searched through 20 pages of these technical help forums, and all say check router ports, which I have again and again. Please help if you can, this is a horrible way to start picking this game up again, and I don't feel like playing a game I can't get into.

Just recapping, have checked router, ports open. Didn't have this problem my first time playing before I quit, and nothing in my setup has changed. Same comp, router, internet provider.

Also wanted to say I am fully updated as well. I have no problem getting past the point of picking a server, character, or creating. This problem only happens after I'm done initializing and ready to load in, or after clicking accept on creating a character.

Which is even more frustrating because waiting 4+ hours for a patch, then 3+hours of trying to get in...heh, just getting a bit too much.

Sorry just read on how your supposed to make that text with network info, so here's that. Also I tried simply plugging directly into the connection without my router, and still couldn't connect to the Matrix but still had no problems with any other games. Anyway here's the tracert.txt (all but the top paragraph with my Ip and all) -

Do you have a firewall as well?

If you do, make sure that the fiewall is granting launcher.exe and matrix.exe access to the internet.

If it is then I'd probably recommend posting the msinfo and dxdiag info requested in the thread as well.

Ya, but as stated above I triple checked that every port was open. First I checked the router ports, and made 110% sure they were open. Second I checked my windows firewall which was already disabled anyway, and Matrix was already in the exception list from the first time I played it, both launcher and the exe. I played this about 5 months ago and had none of the problems I'm having now.

As stated before nothing has changed in my comp setup, and I played it before just fine. Nothing has changed in my router setup, and same provider from when I played it before without problems. I even had my bro bring over his comp and try logging on my account thru his comp, and he had the exact same error. Thing is like I said a few times before I know it's not a firewall problem. I have the same internet provider, so unless they suddenly blocked these ports for no reason in the last 5 months, I don't know what it could be. I'd list my comp specs and all, but since the same happened on my bro's comp I'd have to list his as well.

After trying my bro's comp tonight I'll give it a few more days. If I can't find the reason then I guess I'll have to cancel, and just take it as a $15 lesson, which sux because I did want to play and have only reactivated the account for a little over a day now.

Thing that puzzles me is like I said, nothing has changed on my end since last I played it. And I'm able to log in, but the problem occurs after initializing when the bars all the way to the right and it's saying "Loading Character". Then it says having trouble reconnecting to the margin server. Which doesn't make since because if it was a port problem, I why would I have been able to log in in the first place, and get thru all the initializing. Anyway if anyone has had this problem, or has a potential solution that isn't about checking my firewall, please list them, I do want to play and don't want to have to give up after just renewing. BTW I've restarted my comp, about to try changing my password (last thing on the list of things ppl have said to do on other forums), so running out of ideas lol.

Yes, but are you running any software firewalls?  As jeffers said, posting your msinfo and dxdiag, as is requested here may help us in diagnosing your problem.

No Software Firewalls or antivirus running, besides the windows firewall which is disabled atm. And my router firewall has those ports enabled from the first time I played.

I couldn't get the MSINFO32 because an error pop'd up saying it couldn't be found, but here's the other with a few things dotted out, tell me if I need them in, just being careful with info. Sorry if I posted too much too, tried to cut out the more useless to the situation info -

Thanks for trying to help me guys, but nothings worked. I've reinstalled the game and re-dl'd the patch 3x now. Messed with firewall and taken it out of the equation altogether. Tried it on other comps here at home. Checked all drivers. Reset my password 4 or 5x. Nothings worked, but I do appreciate the effort.

I'm going to give it 2 more weeks since I already paid this month, might as well give it close to next month, maybe it'll fix itself like it has in the past for others in that time. One last thing I will try tho, that's contacting my ISP Sit-co. I've read about them blocking ports without telling customers in the past, and they were already blocking the P2P ports (which messed with the WoW patcher till I turned that option off). I'm not sure if they suddenly blocked all those ports for no reason, but I've ran out of possible reasons I can't connect, because I've basically tried everything from my side. Also, dispite it being DSL and occasionally cutting off, I just can't see it lagging out everytime I try to connect, I can play Counter-Strike for hours without a disconnect at 45 ping with the occasional lag spike up to 135 or so.

Meant to add this but no edit function lol. Just wanted to say tho that those ports weren't blocked when I first played this game, so if they are blocking them, it would have had to have happened in the last 4-5 months or so since I played last. Because at that time I could connect with no problem at all, and had next to no lag problems while playing.

You said you "[t]ried it on other comps here at home".  What was the results of that?  Were you not able to connect on those either?  Have you tried connecting on other PCs while bypassing your router?  I would say at this point that the most likely option is that your ISP is blocking ports, especially considering their history, so I would recommend contacting them.

Ya, I have 3 computers here total at home, ones my brothers, other for anyone or when I have friends over, last is mine. I tried it on mine first, then the other two, the results were same on all three, with the same error so the computers themselves are ruled out IMO. The routers firewall has to be ruled out as well since it played this game 5 months ago and the settings haven't been messed with or reset in any fasion. And yes, did try bypassing the router by directly plugging in, one of the first things I tried.

It's hard to get home in time to contact them, but gonna try hard as it's among the only possibilities left. I've read and heard from others around here that have had Sit-Co suddenly block ports for no given reason. Why they would block those ports all of the sudden when they weren't before is beyond me, and they may not, but I will call and ask. Again appreciate you trying to help. Also this seems to be the only game I can't connect via internet to tho, so if they say their not then think I'll just give it til before payment starts next month and if it hasn't fixed itself then I'll have to give.

I was looking thru a new thread, not sure if it's related, but just wondering about something. I've reinstalled twice, and all, but wondering why this was left out, unless its because I never connected to DL it or something, but in the "Crashing waaaaay too often" thread I noticed a few files you listed and decided to delete them and try that and noticed a few things were missing, and switching the toggle didn't catch it the first or second time, trying it a third now that I deleted what files I had of them. These are the ones I couldn't find in my folders, artpclnt.dll, useropts.cfg, or a Profiles folder. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but just curious, I checked a few dl's, but never noticed those were missing. If those aren't groundbreaking must have files, then don't worry about it, just wondering in case. And if they are needed and supposed to be there on install I'll try lifting them off my Matrix CD's or something, thanks again.

Some of those files may be out of date, but the Profiles folder should definitely be there.  Did you try running a Windows search (Windows key + F) for those file and folder names?

useropts.cfg won't exist unless you have created one yourself.
