okay....

this can be as in-depth as vista itself, but the short and sweet and the final solution that is still working today: copy the MxO directory as it exists, reformat C:\, reinstall vista, simply paste MxO directories back.

the reason i did this is because of vista's "intuitive" design for "finding" your drivers and related software for you verses actual end result of its design affecting XP based software and hardware.  there are probably several contributing factors which you can read below that i encountered that ultimately lead to this final solution after a few attempts at perfection:

 

1. Before MxO, I initially performed a "clean" install and I did not go with a retail version of Vista.  I used a builder's version which is streamlined without random useless software, BUT is also without drivers.  but since you have your OS already this is may not really be an option.  but you must understand that Vista likes to courteously assign ALL drivers before you have a chance to go to the manufacturers web sites to load the latest.  90% of the Vista "intuitive" driver downloads and installs are correct, which is not bad.  I found this out the hard way.

 

2. My MxO after a couple of installs performed worse than yours.  I had to completely erase MxO from the system and reinstall ((with a link provided by SOE in an email when i requested to fix my problems)) which solved most of my problems.  the Newbie download from the site was screwed up by the time it was completely on my hard drive.

 

3.  With a new OS like vista, and the previously described issue with drivers, and the fact that i was also dealing with a 64bit system with 32 bit game software, vista's registry easily got jumbled up with different OS/bit architecture based software and hardware.  during the first three months, i performed 3 re-format/OS re-installations as a result of software complications.  During the last reinstall, i noted that due to the limited installation executed by MxO and vista's "intuitive" design, i could simply just copy MxO and paste it back during system OS re-installation.  This was the BEST solution and i have been running it ever since.

 

Again, this is the final result of my trials and errors.  A year later, it works great, aside from the expected Vista related graphics anomalies that seem to pop up at the strangest times, but eventually predicable so.

EDIT---> PS:  the problem im having now (coincidentally after the latest vista updates) is that my MxO launcher/login is freezing after selecting a character and clicking "ACCEPT."  the solution to this has been, taskmanager, end the "not responding" MxO, restart MxO, flip patch switch, click "ACCEPT,"  let it restart itself, and then continue as normal.

hehe, i can see what you mean...

at the very least, try to set it on patch again (even if the patching is up to date) and if that does not work, try to get an alternate download link for MxO from tech support.

but i understand that this is a lot of conflict, sorry mate.  SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />

well this sucks even more i reinstall it and now while patching i keep getting some error while patching is there a site i can install the patches on without using the launcher?

I had problems with Matrix on Vista as well, along with Planetside. I installed the Station Launcher and let it patch the games and ran them from the launcher and they all seem to work. I think it might be the fact that Station Launcher is acting as the game launcher and seems to be configured for your PC more than than the game launcher.

im getting the same error: "Patch system error (result code -47)" !!  i thought it would go away after the server restart.  ;_;

Result Code -47 usually means that you have an issue with your firewall blocking ports.

Up to date port information for those with super tight firewalls (like me)

quite right!  someone clued me in on that, and i found the mistake was created when i was reconfiguring my network.

Started out being able to play just fine, but it seems as though I will never be allowed to play this game ever again due to ongoing technical issues.  I certainly would like to. 

This all started today while I was standing by the phone booth in Apollyon on Recursion changing my outfit in my inventory.  I switched to a different tab in my inventory and my graphics have been screwed ever since.  Also happens when I try to look in my inventory in the loading area.
