How old are you? Have you ever been to Mexico? TJ is known for being a ruckus city in a bad way...

Tijuana is considered to be Mexico's biggest illicit drug and prostitution center, and some of it... not... pretty.

"I'd recommend that you look for areas that are a bit north of the Con. Look for ones close to the light rail system which provides quick transportation all around San Diego.."

Thanks for the suggestions.  The light rail system sounds good, I'll have to look into where that runs.  Some kind of mass transit comperable to a subway I imagine?

I'm not so sure about Tijuana. I don't have a passport, and some sites seem to indicate it's some kind of big problem to use the other valid forms of ID (drivers license, birth certificate). Apparently they're changing the law to require passports dec 31 this year or something.  Anyone crossed recently? Is it a big deal?

This place appears to be right over the border and relatively reputable. Is it far away from the that lousy illegal activity?  Best to know what part of town that's mainly concentrated in so I can avoid it of course.

One of these places looks like it'd be good if a bunch of people did want to party. http://www.homeshotel.com/

Raijin makes a good point about safety.  Tijuana probably isn't for everyone.  If you do decide to go, here's some helpful regional travel information and safety tips for Mexico.

If we have turnout to where it matches a "Zerg" that would be phenomenal!

You brought up some great points there!

I also dug around (since it seemed pretty popular) MTS information which is the light rail system we have. http://www.sdcommute.com/ - Provided is the link, but also check out the "Trip Planning" section as it should provide some useful and helpful information. There's a bunch of hotels in "Hotel Circle" in Mission Valley, which might be something to look into. Also more North, I've some hotels in Mira Mesa which is fairly close to SOE. This might be another option if you only plan on attending the SOE Block Party.

I'll try to gather more information should it be something that you're all interested in.

I think he might be more worried about a bunch of paying gamers getting rolled by the locals. :smileyvery-happy:

There's tons of different attractions as well but it depends on what you like. Balboa park is nice for museums and such, the world famous San Diego zoo is right there as well. Plus there's Seaport Village right next to the Con which is always fun to visit. So yes there are some nice things to do while in San Diego. :smileytongue:

What he said... and here are some links.

Balboa Park - http://www.balboapark.org/

Museums, as Raijinn mentioned. Also gardens, restaurants, shops and usually some form of art thing going on. I am fond of the air and space museum myself. There are also a few historic buildings, like the federal building and a few others.

San Diego Zoo - http://www.sandiegozoo.org/

Sea World & Busch Gardens - http://www.4adventure.com/seaworld/ca/default.aspx

Scripps - http://www.aquarium.ucsd.edu/

Seaport Village - http://www.spvillage.com/

Lots of shops and restaurants. Also: ice cream. Yes.

Old Town San Diego - http://www.oldtownsandiego.org/

Sadly, Old Town is not what it was just a few years ago, but there are still a few neat things if you have never been there. There is also a trolley in Old Town, though I think it may be more of a tour thing than a help-you-get-around thing. I have never tried it...

Gaslight District - http://www.gaslamp.org/

Or gaslamp quarter... whatever. There used to be some decent restaurants there and some shops, though I have not been there myself for a while. It is also really close to the convention center (within walking distance).

San Diego Mission - http://www.missionsandiego.com/

Maritime Museum & the Star of India - http://www.sdmaritime.com/

Might want to check out the list of ships there, if you are into that sort of thing. Have not been there yet myself, as much as I would like to go.

Cabrillo National Monument - http://www.nps.gov/cabr/

Worth going for the lighthouse. Just avoid being like me and getting dizzy climbing to the top.

The Midway - http://www.midway.org/site/pp.asp?c=coIMKTMCF&b=81432

Aircraft carrier museum. Go.

Casa De Pico - ???

One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. I went there a lot with my parents when it was in the Bazaar Del Mundo in Old Town. I think they are eventually supposed to move to Seaport Village, but I am having trouble finding the current address. Margaritas are served in what one of my friends described as "fruit bowls".

Dang, now I really want to go. Sorry if I ended up sounding like a travel agent. I just like San Diego. :smileyvery-happy: Maybe a bit of homesickness too. (Not from San Diego, but it was an easy enough day trip from where I lived just a couple months ago, and my parents and I usually went at least yearly.)

Well I just made the decision to join you fine folks.  What is planned for after the official SOE shin-dig?  Any dinner & drinks planned after the Block Party?  I'm driving down from San Francisco, and hope to have more than 4 hours with you all to balance out the 18* hours of driving...

Post or send me a PM,
-Faolon

I think The X might be having some beach party after the shin-dig, but I'm sure you'll see something pop up soon from some of the others attending.

If you would like to attend as a character you may, but it's not required.

He lies. It is required. Compliance is mandatory.
