"Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real?" - Morpheus
The Daniel Institute of Dream Interpretation was a guise for the underworld reformist, Morpheus, to operate within view of coppertops; those oblivious to the Matrix. Not all were oblivious. Some knew of the Matrix, deep down, they felt that the world was false. Subconsciously, they were looking for a way out, a way to learn the truth. Truly, they were asleep while the parasite machine race lived off their body heat, harnessing their power like a battery.
But there was hope. A man, some believe his name was Daniel, but who was known as Morpheus, was determined to free all minds from the prison of the Matrix. His name was taken from the Greek mythological god of dreams. His ship was named after the Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar, who enslaved Jews from Judah, one of which was a boy named Daniel. Nebuchadnezzar was troubled with recurring dreams in which the slave boy interpreted for him. Nebuchadnezzar took Daniel up out of slavery and claimed him as a prophet, renaming him Belteshazzar. Daniel served his king well.
Morpheus was freed from the Matrix as a young boy. He went to see the Oracle, as all new redpills do. The Oracle told Morpheus many things. She told him of the prophecy of One man who would be born inside the Matrix, but once freed, he would hail the destruction of the Matrix, freeing all people connected. All will play a role in this prophecy, all have their part. But none larger or more important than Morpheus' role. The Oracle told Morpheus that his faith is strong and that he would be the man to find the One, free him from the Matrix, train him and guide him to become the savior he had dreamed of. Morpheus was a true believer in the Oracle's words. He dedicated his life to searching for the One.
"Consider that in the past six months we have freed more minds than in the past six years." - Morpheus
The Matrix was not destroyed by the One, rather it was saved. The war had left Morpheus without a ship or a crew. His Institute was to be put on hold indefinitely. He found himself in an uneasy peace with the deceptive machines. His negotiations to return Neo's body to Zion for worship turned into demands. He took action against the machines, stressing the Matrix by revealing its code to massive crowds of people. The stability of the Matrix's power supply was in jeopardy as well as the lives of those who power it. Morpheus' actions resulted in his assassination.
The void of not having a presence such as Morpheus' in the Matrix was unsettling for many rebels. Zion Command, the machines and some traitors to Zion attempted to deface the accomplishments of Morpheus and Neo. This angered Zionites. The Kid remembered the lessons that Neo and Morpheus instilled in him during his extraction and training. He, Shimada and others formed a splinter organization dedicated to maintaining a similar presence to the fallen heroes. E Pluribus Neo was formed and diplomacy was to be spared.
