When I do make different characters I name them different, and I'd expect them to be treated different in an IC manner.

But I personally hate the fact that people make alts across all three servers with similer names, and are handed the IC respect/infamy/whatever that their main has earned.

Joe Jackoff from vector doing something really cool should not equal Joe Jaccoff from Recursion doing that thing, the fact that LESIG has just decided to go ahead and treat peoples alts as their mains is annoying as hell. It ruins any reason for putting effort into character building/relationship building on a server. Might as well make three alts, and just run around to events trying to win, everyones going to treat you the same anyway. /bleh

I have..

ChloeAnn - Syntax
ChIoeAnn - Recursion
ChloeAnnn - Vector

but I sorta kinda want a secret character, so i'll be making a new one on vector.. or recursion.. or syntax.. who knows SMILEY<img src=" /> but like they said, its completely up to you. I choose to bring my RPing character to Recursion as well because at the time I made her, I was asked to come over there for the Cyphs, so I did.

As a man that has about a thousand personalities, I personally think it's better to just make another character completely. Most people that make copies just do so for recognition or specific RP needs on separate servers. If that's what you're going for, by all means. I dunno... I'm not attached to my main like most people are.

I'm making this post to get your opinion.  What do you think is better when making a new character on another server?  Should you just add a few letters to your name or switch and i with l and make basically the same character?  Should you create a new character that has a new and unique name and personality?
Depends. If you wanna make an alt that will let people know who you are from another server, keep the name and add a letter or a word or something. If I don't wanna be known by everyone I make a new name.

[[I personally suggest diff name/character because you can experience RP in a different way, but obviously you can do w/e you want, I was thinking of making myself a duplicate

The self is unimportant, only the character, if RP is the goal.

A new identity keeps the ego from getting in the way.

I name and RP all of my characters completely differently. If I want someone to know who my main is, I tell them OOC. I generally do this before I have an alt join a faction because it's better for them to know that I have a main in another organization before some nub in the faction starts going "OMG IT'S NEOTENY - SPY, SPY!" when, in fact, I don't share information gathered from one charcter to another. So it's better to establish that kind of thing with a faction before or shortly after joining.

I also find that there's a bit of a naming scheme that I use.

Zion has operatives with seemingly more random and scattered names. Those NPCs named Africa? They'd probably be Zionites.
EPN has names sort of closer to democratic values and the early republics. Of course there's also your standard Iamneolol, but you should avoid that.
Cypherites have names which represent their mystery or conversion to the Cypherite side, and can occassionally relate to dreaming or subjugation.
Merovingian Operatives tend to go with a more mythical/mystical sounding name to coincide with most of their exile leadership. Not all, though.
Machinists seem to go with more technical names.

I love to RP, so all my alts have different names, with different beliefs, views, and organizations.

Syntax:
Tenshi916 (50)

Recursion:
Rakshaa (36)

Vector:
Majinn (50)

Different names, roughly the same personalities but separate characters.  All of them are primarily guns as far as abilities go however.  Matter of fact I think their all New Age Hippy except for Majinn who is Suspicious Cynic.

I have at least two characters on each server; three on recursion.

No, you may not have their names.

The fact that most of you didn't know this is testament to how different they are.

The way I see it, I have my main on all three, granted I'm only a lowbie on Vector and Recursion but out of 9 slots that's only three taken for my main, that gives me 6 other characters that I can use for specific RP events or to play as without people knowing who I am. Plenty of choice, plenty of possibilities...

I've got Yasamuu(my main on vector), xYasx(Syntax) and Yasamuu1(Recursion). Personally, I regret making them identifiable as being me. For example, I do play Machinist on Vector and Syntax but on Recursion I play as a Cypherite and it's difficult for people, myself included at times, to seperate their characters due to the fact they're of a similar name. I would have liked to have diversified my character on syntax a little too, but as-per my experience on Recursion I already knew there'd be little point in doing so. It's the choice I made and I have to stick with it SMILEY

New RSI = new name & personality

(except for phiOZ on Syntax... I needed one that was recognisable and I'm considering nuking it.)

Recursion:
- phiAU
- Wadjet
- loBit

Syntax:
- phiOZ
- Hexplode
- LBomb

Vector:
- Anonima
- L4Z4RUS
- CptnCrunch
