In these final days of Matrix Online and beyond, I'd like to organize an initiative to not only extensively archive the plot of of Matrix Online, which others have worked toward admirably, but to figure out where Matrix Online fits within the larger picture of the Matrix series. Through a discussion among a group of dedicated fans of the game and the series, my aim is to establish some sort of consensus on what part of Matrix Online is official cannon, what part of it is sort-of-kind-of cannon, and what part of it is not cannon at all, and then to determine how all of it fits in with the series' broader philosophical implications. The desired end result, in my mind, would be to construct a narrative in words and images that could describe every important event to people have never heard of Matrix Online, people who have heard of it but never played it, or even (one can hope) the Wachowski Brothers, to see if they want to take it anywhere in the distant future. Now, I'm sure I haven't clocked in nearly as many game hours as most of you, but I've been with this game since the beginning (since before the beginning, really) and I've been grappling with the game's big picture questions for a long, long time. If anyone else here believes that such an effort would be worthwhile, I look forward to offering my services as a writer, artist, and Matrix enthusiast.
