That's all I can think of from the top of my head. SMILEY

I believe H A L is attempting it, although their still in the process of building up a member base.

Other than that maybe Tetragrammaton, though Im not sure of any events with them involved...

yes yes yes! or in a pinch TGS's Singularity crew, although they're more writers than live RP'ers, and all these choices are mech. I can't think of any non mech harcore RP'ers. Although I'm sure there are some.

Perhaps, my dear, it would help if you clarified what you mean by "Serious Roleplaying Crews/Factions"? SMILEY

As for me, I am always trying to improve the roleplay in the game. But it is difficult when you have so many younger players on these days that don't really understand or want to RP. It is an aspect of gaming that many of them just aren't familiar with.

Also, it's taken me a while to figure out where Shi Xin belongs. Now that I have that worked out, I'll be throwing some more RP out there. Hopefully, I can get my (new) crew really involved in it as well.

Pirathonite and I make attempts to RP when we're in and not PvPing.  I've got a story going now (for which I actually need to go write another NR post, come to think of it) that he's a part of, and DesperAuto (who joined our crew entirely for story reasons) has one as well.

I guess you could call us the old crew of the Antioch, though that ship's been blown to pieces now.  The freighter "Trinity's Hope" is where we're currently jacked in from.

By serious, I mean that the group as a whole is mature and role-play driven; a group with such members that are rarely to be found out-of-character unless specifically noted or called for. These individuals would be neither "griefers", and would understand the difference between drama and plot enhancing elements.

Good question, are there any serious Zion RP factions?

Tetragrammaton? They're pretty much always IC, I think. Don't know 'em that well but thats the image I've got from them.
I gotta stop thinking before my head hurts too bad.

But if its really the case the only factions who RP are Mech than MXO has fallen further than I would have hoped. I'm sure that more people RP than just Mechs.
I thought Merv was where most of the RPers are?
Where's the WolfPack?
Costa Nostra or something? Abaddon?

Waaaaiiit!

Crew of the Swordfish II! They still around? Zions haviest RP crew!
Winter Brood then?

Gotta think harder...
*slams head against a wall*

I give up.

faction wise no I dont think any are any left. RP in a large scale is dead. Yeah there are crews out there that RP or one or two people in a faction that do but thats it.

To be honest the old days of RP died the moment it moved to Tabor West and pvp/paries started to dominate the hardline. Now the most you will find is on the NR boards and even then the newest thread is about what a week old?

But I do think that it can pull a Neo and come back to life. It seemed to have died the moment Anome betrayed Niobe and Unlmimit showed up so maybe once there all gone we will see a revival.

The Wolfpack is dead. And Abaddon, along with most "rp" Merv factions are more pvp than rp. That's not to appeal to the theory that good roleplayers are wimpy when it comes to fighting, but for roleplay violence requires consent, preparation, and cooperation out-of-character between both sides. Since this rarely occurs, most full-time roleplayers do not fight.

Well, there has to be a payoff, right? I mean, what's the point? (I know what it is, just making a, well, point)

For PvPers its the King-of-hill bragging rights and cq points.

For partiers, it's the social interaction.

So, what is the point of RP?

For me, it is a creative outlet. A chance to partake in one of the greatest stories of our generation.

There has to be a serious payoff, though, to really get people into it.

Thoughts?

It is a cult in some ways; it has its rules and expectations. Some people are drawn to it in curiousity, some people shun it in incomprehension or conditioned hatred.

Roleplay is not something of immediate "rewards," but allows for the progression of creativity; be it writing skills, acting skills, or even coping skills. Coping skills are definately needed for a person to be able to detach his/her emotions from the roleplay and at the same time deal with things storywise without overreacting in such a way that breaks character.
Roleplay is about immersion, it is a path like no other, an intellectual and emotional challenge that can help you grow and adapt as a person. As you progress, you begin to see this not as a game, but as a story, which you feel a part of - a feeling that is one of roleplay's greatest rewards.

And that feeling doesn't require you to be in character at all times.  You can be part of a story, or create your own, without being unable to talk to people as -you-.  I think the definition of 'serious' needs some work.

I'm always in character, except in faction chat and ((parentheses)).
