Hovercraft can't move with people jacked in anyway, at least not in the movies. I remember a line from Morpheus after having set the Neb down, along the lines of "repatch the main AC to the hard drives and stand by to broadcast."
Ah, but what about The Final Flight of The Osiris? Pretty sure they were still flying while the asian chick was jacked in.
Also, regarding the location of Zero One, The General's Blog (Written by Chadwick, as far as I know) indicated that it was indeed in Iraq. I think he said that the Machines "bought it, dirt cheap". Sadly, that blog seems to have been deleted (/cry!).
According to my canon, it isn't the only one.

Just to fix a minor miss assumption. Zero One is not the Machine City.In the commentary given by the director of The Second Renaissance he says that 01 was destroyed by the nuclear bombing. The Machine city could be located in the same area but the name is unknown as the only canonl reference we have been given is "The Machine City".

He may have said Zero-One was destroyed, but did he actually say the Machine City we know and love isn't Zero-One? They could have rebuilt it and called it Zero-One again.
And I'm sure I saw a more recent reference to Zero-One somewhere in MxO. Probably during the Neurophyte story (and yes, I'm accepting that as canon ).

No he does not but one can assume that a Machiens logic would follow that when rebuilding the city the name would change to 02 or something simular. My point was only that we don't know the "offical" name for the Machine city as the only name and city we have ever been given, was destroyed in a nucklear bombing.
But I do vaugly remember what your talking about and if I can find the mention of it it would be nice. I'm just trying to keep assumptions form being taken as fact as has happend too many times with this story.
I highly doubt that Zion is the only remaining pocket of humanity left on the planet. That's all I'm gonna say!
