There wont be borg, hell there wont be klingons, Romulans, carddassians, etc you know, all the good races.

Its vulcans, trill, humans and two obscure races, one of which only made a few appearances, the other I dont ever know what the heck that it.

You cant get your own ship, starfleet gives it to you and you dont even get to name it. Cant say I want a galaxy class star ship to cruise around the galxay. Nope, you take what your given.

Ship populations will supposivly be the same as the ones in the shows. So you know the galaxy class ships (The enterprise from next gen) well it could hold around 1,000 people at any given time, good luck getting that number into a single ship, let alone not have choking lag.

And if you think the ST community is accepting this with open arms your mistaken, everyone that I have talked to is completely hostile to STO.

1. You can only be in starfleet at launch, who wants that?!

2. Races: Vulcan, Bolian, Human, Trill, Bajoran, Andorian, Tellarite <---I dont even know what a Tellarite is!

3.

We expect to give players considerable freedom to explore space and discover the unknown. However the primary motivator of player experience will be Starfleet directed missions.

So bye bye to any hope of just free play, your in starfleet now soldier!

4. Will there be an economy? For those that dont know, there is no money in the star trek future, none atleast that starfleet and the federation has.

Trust me on this, STO is a doomed project, the established community for Star Trek is hostile to it's concept. IF you have to get this game, wait 3 months after launch to determine if its even got a decent player back.

I knew about this for a while. I got the blog stuff in My Bookmarks and stuff and always look for new updates.

There latest blog said that it was 20 years after Star Trek : Nemesis. So all the good stuff has happened SMILEY No more Borg because Admiral Jayneway has screwed it up for them (In Voyager) and thanks to the amazing (but rather attractive) Seven of Nine, has prevented Borg invasion etc etc.

I admit, Im a il sceptical. If I was the developer, I would set it back to the interesting times. The Next Generation years were the best. No one can lie and say they didnt enjoy an episode of Captain Picard and Commander Riker on the Bridge of NCC - 1701 D. That has its roots.

Race wise - It was typical they would leave out the good ones. Klingons would be kool - on a quest base where you could do The Klingon Rights of Honor or something based on there tradition etc. Humans are plain! We need more races. Take WoW and other successful MMO's and what they have achieved!

I vote for Quest base! Missions? Im unsure how they would work. But commanding my own ship SMILEY With minions at the helm! I say Hell yeah!!!

AJ, a typical Definant class destroyer has about 80 people in it, depending on your reference. Now imagine 80 crammed into an area roughly the size of the church of mara C. Now further imagine the lag that would be generated.

Id like to see an ant farm mmorpg "Be one of many millions of ants living on with no apparent purpose serving mindlessly underground" :smileysad: "Lead a batallion of red ants to destroy the facist black ants" :smileysurprised: "Carry many times your body weight in food for your queen" :robotwink: "Get stomped on and have raid sprayed at you by the ultimate enemy...HUMANS! :robotsurprised:            "Antfarm Online" 4tw!!!! :robotvery-happy:

Hmm, Lag city lol

I bet the ship mission base will be that of Bridge Commander. That was ok, but kinda sucked.

Honestly, I'm interested, might just sign up for it's beta. I think everyone's worry about lag is a bit excessive - everyone's just been traumatized by Mxo's record-breaking lag and choppyness. Most games don't have the same issues. I've played Lineage 2 before and had hundreds of people in a small area with no significant lag. It's perfectly possible to have a huge player base and no lag problem, SOE simply chooses not to rectify these problems in Mxo - most likely due to money, and therefore, without the powerhouse servers native to other MMOs. In any case, I'm a huge trekkie and will definitely give it a shot.

Confining it to Federation affiliation only is a huge mistake. Games need conflict and in-character drama to stay interesting. Just imagine what MxO would be like if everyone played Zion....

If they ever did add other sides to the Star Trek MMO, I'd totally go Romulan SMILEY

I'm interested in this one but I'll admit, I'm a little sceptical of exactly what the end result will be. Just have to wait and see there I guess. I'll try it out whenever Beta eventually hits. As for the possible lagginess of having dozens or even hundreds of people roaming one ship, I read that every player will be Captain of their own ship at the start and you'll be the only one there. This might mean you start of with a small ship, maybe even a dinky 'lil Runabout or something.
When you are able to team up and have other players as your crew then the crew positions might not be as vast as you might think. There may only be crew positions for the major stations, like the Bridge, Engineering, Sickbay and so on. This may only end up being a handful of players on a single ship.

Sounds like another Eve Online. If you can't actually beam down to the planet and do mission with a team of people where is the new Game Player to attract users?

If you can't play races opposing the federation either

  • They plan on doing them as expansions which I can understand but think.
  • No Decent PvP

Dark Age of Camelot while old by most standards still to this day has the best forumla for pvp in my opinion.

  • Safe leveling areas controlled by your org/race/affiliation.
  • Shared hostile territory with real value reasons to enter it (not just the pvp factor)
  • Worth while pvp achievments that benefit everyone in your "safe" territory. (Promotes PvP participation)
  • Solid end game content in PvP and "safe" zones to appeal to both types of players.

This forumla wins in my opinion. STO would be ripe for it Feds vs Kling vs Rom vs Card vs Ect.

well, Im a TNG trekie,  been keeping up with STO for a LONG time now,  and i will definitly give it a chance no matter what.

I play MxO becasue im a fan, not becasue i like MMOs

I will do the same for STO

But yes, they REALLY should allow you to go many diffret races/sides.  But not borg.  If anyone went borg they would tottal ruin the characters.

Only 2 borg have ever had personalitys, Hue, and the Borg Queen,   (7of9 doesnt count, shes stupid and voyager was teh gh ey)

Also they better put Q in the game
