So, I was just thinking about the guy from cinematic whatever, where he's sitting in a chair watching footage of Neo talking to Deus Ex Machina and saying "Most interesting." Who the hell was that guy? For the last while, I'd thought it was Halborn, but being that we were tossed this whole thing about them being frickin' androids, it couldn't possibly be him. Who the hell was that guy?

I'm quite sure it was Carlyne.

Cinematic: Cut to Neo confronting Deus Ex Machina, from the scene close to the end of The Matrix Revolutions, only seen from the side and slightly below, some distance away. A hand passes quickly across the screen, and the scene freezes, as a robotic bug begins to crawl across it--what we were seeing was a close-up view of another computer monitor displaying old surveillance footage from Machine City, and someone (this will be Carlyne--see 9.3) paused the video feed.

Was it ever confirmed that Carlyne is the one who Halborn referred to when he told the Merv that he knew the human he was designed after?

But we found out later that Carlyne was an Android. Ergo WTheF?

Well, they are humans with android bodies, right? Maybe that android was particularly human in appearance.

I'm thinking it's an android that looks identical to a human, a la Data or the Terminator. We saw them in the Animatrix.

E.g. the very human-looking female bot who gets literally torn to shreds by a bunch of hoodlums in Second Rennaissence 1. :: Shudders::

As I recall, Rarebit's notes about the Oligarchs said that their consciousness exists in mainframes, but they use realistic androids as proxies.

But there was that whole big thing about them finding Carlyne's android - the one shown in the cinematic that obviously looks nothing like this. If they're in a mainframe, there's also the manner of the machine clinking around in what seems to be a fortress of solitude with him. I think it's probably just a retroactive f*ck up (rare going "oh hai - other people outside the system of control," then throwing in the android thing without remembering ol' mystery man), but thought I'd raise the question.

From memory, the Android recovered by the Merv was Halborn's.

I'm fairly certain the android was Carlyne. Thus, plot hole! One of many, many, many.

I don't see a problem. Firstly, the two cinematics (Carlyne in front of his screen, and Carlyne's android body being shown to Merv) were drawn by different people, and Rare's style in particular can be a bit... confusing. Secondly, the android body could have been damaged. Thirdly - and the most probable explanation if you ask me - Carlyne could have been watching his screen from within a construct. It stands to reason they'd inhabit virtual environments inside their mainframes. And the tiny robots scuttling around aren't a problem either; the bug planted on Neo in the Matrix was a nasty little bug-like Machine. I'm sure the Oligarchs can have whatever they want in their environments.

Carlyne? That doesn't make sense to me. Clearly, Halborn was referring to Late 20th-Early 21st Century French actor Lambert Wilson.
Seriously I wondered about this too. I dont think this was ever explained in Rare's storyline dump.
