just copied my reply from one of the other threads on it.
"As I've said before this film (as well as any response to or any film like it) is not interested in enlightening you to the truth. They are only interested in getting you to believe what they do. They simply give you one sided biased information with only a spec of truth within it, then show it in a "factual" presentation. Movies like this shouldn't be taken as factual but only used to help motivate you to looking up the information yourself and from all sides.
My thoughts on Zeitgeist? Same as they were for Loose Change. It got me to take a second look at what I knew but when it came down to it and after investigating, it like loose change, became nothing more then a show of one sided biased information with only internet blogs and wikipedia as "credible" sources. The irony is that under its video it quotes to not take authority as truth and yet its purpose is to get you to take the video as an authority on the truth."
If you want to figure it out on your own, watch this movie but also take the time to watch and read up on the criticism and responses to it. Then go and look up the info yourself. That is the only way your ever going to find the truth they proclaim to have.
It is a very interesting Movie, its hard to argue with astrology which I personally strongly believe the religion part. But once they started talking about how our governments are going to kill us all...
Denis Leary made that movie though
WE'VE SEEN THIS CRAP ALREADY
FrayJack wrote:WE'VE SEEN THIS CRAP ALREADYLess of the attitude, we all know that necro'ing any thread older then a short period of time results in a lock of that thread, a PM from a moderator detailing that we have just necro'd a post, and we get told to make a new one on the topic.Anyway it may be crap in your eyes, and I am sure it is in many ways, as pointed out earlier, it shows a "biased" view of the coin, but I still found it an interesting watch, makes you just step back a minute and think "what if" et cetra. Also yes I am aware that the video is a year old, however on that page he has a trailer for a 2nd edition coming out this october. But sheesh if you lot are going to get mardy over something that is posted, then I wont bother.
Your fine. Some people just look for ways to make trouble.
As for the sequel I'm sorta interested in seeing what they add and admit was wrong yet sorta hesitant to even hear about it. Hopefully the second time around they will put a little more effort into "research" and a little less biased in there presentation.
This movie....eh. Should be taken with a grain of salt..
Part One: Interesting stuff about religious/mythic connections. But I knew that already from reading Joseph Campbell. It doesn't mean there was a grand evil conspiracy, it just means that there are archetypal themes that resonate in humanity. Secondly, assuming there was no literal Jesus that walked the earth is silly. Just because he (IMO) didn't have magical powers that doesn't mean he was completely made up either. The Jesus Seminar was a group of scholars who tried to sort out what was historically likely from the source material (both canonical and non-canonical sources). They concluded:
The seminar's reconstruction of Jesus portrays him as an itinerant Hellenistic Jewish sage who did not die as a substitute for sinners nor rise from the dead, but preached a "social gospel" in startling parables and aphorisms. An iconoclast, Jesus broke with established Jewish theological dogmas and social conventions both in his teachings and behaviors, often by turning common-sense ideas upside down, confounding the expectations of his audience: He preached of "Heaven's imperial rule" (traditionally translated as "Kingdom of God" as being already present but unseen; he depicts God as a loving father; he fraternizes with outsiders and criticizes insiders.
Part Two: It was interesting to see the discrepancies. It doesn't prove a single theory, yet it should be looked into further.
Part Three: Again some interesting stuff. Again, it doesn't prove a grand unified conspiracy. And somethings are just flat out wrong, like saying that FDR was involved in letting Japan bomb Pearl Harbor. Completely untrue! Again, bits and pieces of historical oddities does not a grand unified conspiracy make.
I just wanted to say that there are far more intensive and coherent documentaries that serve to open the mind much more significantly. I would put Adam Curtis' "The Century of the Self" at the very top of that list. Also "The Corporation" is very solid and also extremely relevant to exactly where we are and what's really going on in our society. For politics I can't recommend "The Power of Nightmares" (also by Adam Curtis) enough.
In fact I'd say The Power of Nightmares is kind of like What's Really Going On 101.
Century of the Self and The Corporation is like What's Really Going On 201.
The Trap is pretty advanced, it's like a 300 level course.
If Zietgeist gets people to think critically then that's good, but its rather scattershot and disjointed. Also, the problem with specific conspiracy theories (ie. 911) is that by focusing on one specific event, it just kind of sends you down the rabbit hole and you can look into every nuance and be stuck for ages and lose focus. Just look at the thousands of books and conpiracy theories abouty the JFK assassination, its 45 years later and its just become this giant glut that never went anywhere.
In my opinion its much better to look at the big picture, which my above recommendations all address. Check them out! Torrents are your friend as most of these aren't available on dvd as far as I'm aware (with the exception of The Corporation)
I apologize for the necro however I felt as if another side of these supposed stories should at least be posted so that those wanting to see someone argue the points made in this film may do so. Although a Google search will give you a number of videos on you-tube about part one and plenty of sites on part two I must say it was nice to see someone tackle all three parts (and even the companion guide Acharia S wrote on part one) and have them all together for easy reading.
Mind you its a bit long but if you sat through Zeitgeist you should be able to sit through this.
Zeitgeist Debunked
Sorry about another necro just thought I'd give a friendly reminder to conspiracy lovers and debunkers alike that "Zeitgeist - Addendum" premiered tonight and will be available for public viewing online starting tomorrow at http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
