Question 1: Is the game dead? If a person without legs is 'dead' then YES the game is dead b/c we're missing something; but...

Question 2: Is it too late to bring it back? H3LL NO!!! (but the Oracle did say that everything that has a beginning has an end)

It's 'dead' in the way Second Life is dead -- we are the ones who are mainly responsible for content.  I still enjoy pvp, rp, and player events (especially the latest Detective Story), so while we may not have a continuously evolving official storyline, I'm still having alot of fun.

Therefore, it's not too late to bring it back.

1. In some way, yes, perhaps in coma... but not dead. (especially not for me, as I haven't seen everything of the game yet)

2. Wrong. It's never too late. Threads like this proove that.

A simple way to save MxO: If SOE would hire a (or some) new developer(s) to progress the story-line, start live-events, fix bugs (especially with new OS and GPUs), perhaps do something for probably new redpills (the game leaves you a bit alone at this point, if you don't know anybody to ask) and do a little (!) bit advertisement, even only on sonys own websites (they hide the game if you ask me), the game would live on, and make money for SOE... Let a game which includes so much work and possibilities die, is stupid (from business).

Oh, and SOE should offer a normal, direct way to Trial-keys! (getting them through a myspace-site is a bit... strange, for such a company)

Yes, I know, will never happen blahblah, but it could. Not much money and personal would be needed to keep MxO interesting for most of the old fanbase, and also addict some new players... (the game would never become like WoW of course).

Not to mention all the possibilities the game/Matrix-license would still offer... SMILEY (PVE-Constructs, perhaps vehicles and stuff...)

Well yeah.  This game could totally be revived if SOE decided to throw 50, 60, hell why not 100k at someone and say "dude, fix some **** and make all these players happy!"

It would also be cool if SOE bought everyone subscribed to the game sweet-*** trench coats and sunglasses so we could all dress up like NEO!!!!!!!111

Oh I know, SOE should maybe like, like if they bought us all ice cream cones every time we jacked in and they found some awesome way to like...  to send us ice cream cones through some kind of teleporter.  Snap, that'd be cool.

Or...  We could wake up and stop expecting anything at all from them and just play the game while it's still here.

I said this in another thread, and I'm only repeating it because it's something to think about.

Do you know how much money that they have saved since Rare has left?  If you want to really look at the big picture from a business perspective...  MxO costs very little to run at this point.

Personally, I think Rare left because he was given a choice.  I think they couldn't afford him and MxO anymore, so they told him that he could either stay and they continue to pay him and put the final nail in MxO's coffin, or he can leave and MxO can continue on with everything left.

That's just me though.

I want a new MxO (next-gen graphics, especially with gravity and rag-doll, so pushing someone over a building edge or throwing someone at a wall does damage etc.; customizable GUI, combat macros for customizable attacks (game provides abilities and standard macros, so each player can make their own "style"; no Hacker, Patcher and Sims, replaced by grenadiers, medics and other weaponry) that starts at the end of 1.3. The opening movie for a newbie is a short movie (15 mins or longer) that depicts the beginning over Morpheus's assassination till the Assassin's death (Monolith storyline). From the on the storyline picks up in a slightly different way than it has. Also, questions like "how does the RL affect in-game", "where do Meros live in the RW", "where do Machinists live in RW" and many other questions should be answered in detail by a storyboard commision before the launch of that new MxO (encyclopedia for players). Furthermore there's only 1 story-server (limited "seats" at each event (not necessarily first come, first serve per event, since event times will not be told, except when meetings are officially arranged), PvP enabled), the other servers can interact with the story outside of the box (missions, liason (which are this time around payed players) events) and are otherwise used for raids on hideouts, constructs, tournaments (which can be also held in special constructs, multiple-on-multiple tournaments too) and everything else (not provided on story-line server, except where needed; 1 "story character" per account can log on onto it's home-server or the story-server).

Weeelll, there's much more that I'd want, but heck, there's still MxO.

Was this off-topic? Good =P

Unfortunately unlike SL we can't have an armada of flying e-peens or animals for bestiality... but maybe one day!

I'm still into the game as well as the Detective stories. Excellent. If we keep this up the game still has it's own story makers.

I.MXO is dead in the sense of every promise that was given to those who bought a box copy of the game. I could go on and whine like I have in other posts but at this point it is quite clear Sony doesn't care about our satisfaction as customers as much as they care about making as much money for as little effort as possible. From a corporate support standpoint I'm not sure why they even keep the game with except perhaps there is some sadistic person that enjoys watching us squirm and hope something will be done.

But that might be considered to be excessively negative by some standards.

MXO is alive in the sense that every day I log on and talk to at least a dozen people, run missions, have RP, go dancing, farm random crap and have as much fun now as I did three years ago. People have change, content has left but the only thing SOE can't pry from our dead cold fingers is our ability to enjoy what we do have...and to a degree that is worth the money.

II.If SOE would actually bother with a magical phrase called 'marketing'...they could have all three servers up to medium capacity...the majority of people either don't know this game is around or that it is still alive.

But that would require effort on the part of Sony...and...I keep beating dead horses so I'm going to stop before the internet equivalent of PETA shows up outside and begins to throw petrol bombs at my house.

Question 1: Is the game dead?

Question 2: Is it too late to bring it back?

Answer 1: The game is as dead as you allow it to be. There are tons of things to farm and there are tons of player events that can be. Its up to the players to keep the game going. If noone plays the game is dead, as long as there are players the game will continue.

Answer 2: No, its never to late to bring a game back. Who knows maybe someone will step in and take over rare's place. It has yet to be a yr since rare has left. I think we need to allow some time to pass before panacing. Someone mentioned wanting a new MXO, I believe this could happen. Look at starwars a new MMO is coming out called The Old Republic. The only thing is would a game developer want to remake a mxo mmo or would someone just step in this game and change things.

You didn't understand anything I said... As I said above, I don't believe things will change, but things could change, it's not to late or something, it would be possible. And continuing the support and improve the game a bit sometimes would not cost much money, at last the game could still make profit for SOE. Let a MMORPG at this point die is simply a wrong decision, it still has, limited of course, financial potential with a little support. You have to think about all the work in the game and it's engine over the last years... making a new MMORPG costs really money!

For example, what would it cost SOE to make more advertisement for MxO sometimes and don't hide it on their own webpages? A few minutes of one or two persons... they just don't WANT to do something for the game at the moment. Why? Nobody knows...

Of course MxO is not WoW (thank god SMILEY ), but nobody can decide for a game he never reads about / he doesn't know!

At last, the merge, Syntax and Recursion, we all know about this discussion in the other thread... This would SAVE money for SOE, and make most players happy, current and possible new ones (first look is important, and empty servers are not "good"), but they don't do it. There is no logical explanation for that...

(PS: Your joke about Neo fails a bit, many MxO-Players already own Matrix-style trechcoats & sunglasses, right? )

MxO in 2007 is exactly the same as MxO in 2009.  Nothing has changed.  Wait, wut?
