Considering how I have seen you treat some members of the MxO community in the past, there is no way would I (and perhaps some others) want to visit the "official post mxo" boards if you were the admin. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of many positive contributions you have made back in MxO's hay day... but if you ran things I feel it would be a clone of the DoE boards behavior wise... and thats no fun at all.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't but think that due to the whole "guilty by association" thing, and before you say something like "I'm glad you wouldn't want to use our boards" let me point out how that would be proving me right. So do yourself a favor and don't say anything like that.

Now before anyone gets all butthurt over what I just said, relax. Just my opinion. I'm entitled, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna stay quite about my thoughts on the future of the MxO community.

You've got your history wrong, mate. The original mxoboards was Jurymen's thing; it had to be shut down because his participation was a conflict of interest with his position on the DN1 forums. It was his forum, and I'm glad you wouldn't want to use his boards, because we (i.e. over 300 people from all three servers) had a lot of fun on those forums until they were shut down. I couldn't imagine what they'd be like with you posting your nonsense on them.

Not like it matters, because no one is forcing you into which forums to use. No one forced you to visit the DoE boards either (which is a terrible idea if you're from TC), where the administrators (of which I am not one) only come down on those who deserved it, like you -- usually for posting stupid stuff with no factual information to back it up, like your post above.

But obviously you have negative thoughts on the future of the community as it stands, so maybe it would be in your best interests to remove yourself from its future instead of bringing it to another forum, whichever it may be.

WTB - DN1 Forum backup? Or the script database backup at least....

This is something we definitely need. I don't think it would be a good idea to bung the backup into the post-MxO board, though. As nice as it would be to essentially continue where we left off, these forums are huge and would put a serious strain on whoever hosted them if they were active. Far better to have the DN1 forums as a static archive, and have a separate, active post-MxO forum.

I've tried this using the mirroring/backup tool that SuperJenius pointed me to. The problem, as I see it thus far, is that it only backs up the main page of the forums.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to backup every single page of these forums. If someone wants to do it, the website copier program (freeware) is at http://www.httrack.com/. You install it, point it to the website you want to backup, and it downloads the whole thing to a folder on your hard drive. If someone can get the whole forum, I can host it and make the links work.

But it will only be a copy, I think. I doubt it will mirror the SOE forums engine and database. At least, that was my impression from using it for an hour or so.

So, my personal feelings is that Riac's site MXOMainframe is currently our best bet. It's already active, there's no 'bad blood' or history there so it's fairly neutral, and Riac seems like the type that will moderate fairly.

Lies.  Riac is a nazi.  He sends us PMs with what we're permitted to post under his evil rule.  It's so horrible!

I've been meaning to give that program a proper go. But you're right: it won't back up the database, just the pages. And my guess is that it won't do it very efficiently. If someone manages to back it all up that way I could probably have a go at parsing all the pages and dumping it back into a database. It wouldn't be perfect, but at least we'd be able to navigate it more naturally and we'd get the search function to work.

I'm not talking about the old mxoboards, I'm talking about YOU and YOUR behavior on THESE boards. I used Jurymens old boards as well and thought for the short time it was up it was handled fairly well. I was sad to see it go just as everyone else was.

I never used the DoE boards, but I saw and heard how people behaved over there, so I never had any reason to use them. That's my point. In short, I don't trust you because of who your friends are (and because some of your actions here)

Negative thoughts on our future? Absolutly if you ran things... that was my entire point. But remember I'm not the one that was a member of a group that absolutly despised this place and ended up leaving (multiple times) only to come back and cause trouble (multiple times) then leave again. I have been here since the beginning and tried to stay positive about MxO and its future/direction. I don't deny that I too have had my share of drama points, but then I'm not the one volunteering here. BUT.... thanks for proving me right. I knew you wouldnt dissapoint.

Actually, despite DoE/FH conflicts in the past, a few FH were on those boards. And I can tell you from experience, it isn't as bad or as dramatic*snicker* as you say it is.

Lighten up imo.

As a fellow Enfant Terrible, I can vouch for Riac's all around good nature and love of the community!  And he is drama free SMILEY

MxOMainframe is a fantastic suggestion for many of the reasons stated.

Ok I really should wait to post this until I get the site redesign finished buuuut...

TLFC - The Last Free City

thelastfreecity.com

This forum has been around since the movies were released. It was originally, and fittingly thematrixonline.com, but Warner Bros. purchased the domain from the original owner. We've got 10 years of in-depth Matrix analysis, good discussion, original stories, and a good community.

A few years ago I took over as an admin and as lead web developer. I'm a professional user experience designer and web developer, and I'm working on an all-encompassing redesign of the forum, adding new features such as a blog/news front page.

The site has been there for 10 years and isn't going anywhere. All these faction websites and forums set up for the Matrix Online specifically may not last very long, who knows what the owner will do or when they will run out of funding. With TLFC, we've been here way before The Matrix Online and we'll be there way after The Matrix Online, guaranteed. It's run by Matrix fans, for Matrix fans.

I'd honestly love it if you guys would come over and make TLFC your home, like it's been my one true internet home since seriously 2003. I want to keep seeing your great Matrix stories, pictures, comics, and just general discussions.

P.S. We have a very loose TOS and only ban people for deliberately trying to disrupt the forum badly. Other than that, and disgusting stuff, most things are all good.

P.P.S. I also own www.zionarchive.com and I would like help setting this up as an archive of the complete Matrix story, including the Matrix Online.
