So, I was watching all the matrix movies back to back because my girly hadnt seen them yet, and I remembered that MxO was (hopefully) still alive and kicking. So I did a little research and decided that meh, what the hell id spend the 20 bucks and get it for the 30 day pass. I played in the Beta, and man did we have good times back then. But now, ive been playing for a few days, and i'm wondering if there is even a point... Main charecters have died, and I know the story is amazing and so much background and hard work has gone into it... but is it worth it for a new player to start? Everyone is on the 12.1 chapter, and im sitting in Zia running "Insert generic name here" to "Insert other generic name here." I remember meeting Morpheus and seeing that crazy black thing flying around in the sky, and people were going CRAZY, parties in all the clubs, RadioFreeZion announcing mass gatherings and refuge zones from the virus. Does any of this happen anymore? I've been trying to research all that has happened in the... 4 years I have been away, but its hard to interpret the videos and then the less than ample information I find on the net. Maybe its just my server, I am playing on Vector because I like (belive it or not) the fear that some crazy gungho machinist is going to swoop in on me and pwn my face. It seems more real to me. But now in the past 3 days, I have only met 2 others that even said hello, and only have seen like 3 other players my level. Is it worth playing? Should I switch to syntax? Is it more fun there? Or has Sony utterly destroyed this game that was so much fun? Anyways, my name is LogikalBomb, I'm on vector!

Chances are you will find more people on Syntax, not only because the population is bigger but also because people aren't afraid to get jumped if they're visible for too long.  SMILEY

I can't say if you'll find it worth staying beyond the trial period.. it is true that MxO is hurting right now and your enjoyment of the game will come directly from A.) how much you want to revisit content that is old to other players and B.) your interaction with other players.

It's obvious by your posting here that you are honestly interested in giving the game a real shot and so I would suggest checking out Syntax and at least riding out your trial.  Heck, most players have characters on every server anyway so it's possible you'll find friends on Syntax who are also on Vector and can help you out there as well.  SMILEY

I'm afraid to say that this is starting to look increasingly like the case.  On the other hand though, MxO is so good that we all keep playing no matter what SOE does to us.  Draw from this what conclusions you wish.  If you need any information or assistance in-game feel free to contact Syntax.Cadsuane

Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to catch up on the story via archives, we're not going to be moving past 12.1 anytime soon.

Definately worth bothering. The thing with an MMO is, with the content added over time since launch, they're always a tresaure trove to new players because theres just so much to do. The story is there to experience and enjoy, even if it is only to 12.1 and may never "really" conclude and theres tons of exiles, gangs, clothes etc to be doing along the way. The current situation should only really concern those who have done everything already, not a new player.

Agree with the above posters that MxO is very much worth "bothering". There is so much content in the game, missions to run, contact missions distributed all over the city, all with deep and interwoven stories and characters, items to be had/quested for .. and many, many fun people who are diehard players and enjoy giving new people help as they make their way in our beautiful city. Also, you've got communities like MxOSpace, plenty of factions, lots of regular events planned around Catzi Radio .. there's so much to do! For fifteen bucks a month you'll be very busy for a long time here, and you might even come to love the way it works so much that it ruins other MMOs for you (like it did me). I've played quite a number of other MMOs and so far none have the richness that MxO has, including character models and animation, depth of character customization through clothes, RSI pills and ability loadouts and stats, a vibrant and visually resplendent world to explore ... anyway, I go on and on SMILEY

Look me up on Syntax!

Well i'm a new guy too started playing on vector last week and although i've had the same experience in not meeting anyone only 2 or 3 people in the areas i'm cruising i brushed this off considering the games four years old and most of the players here are probably maxed out and in totally differnet areas i doubt MXO gets many noobs since the films are all done and over with etc but i'm doing the storyline missions trying to catch up so i play along in the continuing story and i think it's great so far the missions are far more interseting than the usual kill xx of these collect xx of these you get on wow and other mmorpgs and thier still appears to be plenty of live events set up by players etc so the game still seems to ticking over as it were.

My friends joining up next week and is going to be my first mate so i'll be able to level faster with his help still a few things i need to figure out but once i get nearer to max level i feel my experience here will pick up signifficantly.

Mmmmk sounds like a plan!!! Where can I go for the story missions?

Also,  what is the best way to get the best graphics out of a Vista computer, I far exceed the recommended requirements, but I have to run it on lower than the lowest settings... I don't understand it... I have turned the 3d quality sounds off, and that improved it a little, not enough though to turn up the settings.

P4 3.2

2 GB of RAM

512 Radeon 2600 HD

etc etc..

If you're looking to tackle the old storyline missions (and earn yourself some cool visual effects and/or clothing in the process) here's where you need to go:

Merovingian Archivist:  Richland, Appolyon, x:224 y:1 z:-1514

Machine Archivist: Richland, Midian Park, x:1215 y:1 z:-1155

Zion Archivist: Richland, Moriah, x:1114 y:7 z:-75

You can do archive missions from any org regardless of what your reputation point totals, and to get all of the visual effects and clothes (as well as to experience the story first hand from each perspective) you'll have to do them from every org and not just your own.  Of course, which you do and what you want to see/collect are entirely up to you. Should i do them in a specific order? Or just start with one (Zion, go humanity!) and do them all then move to the next?

If you're looking to relive the story, you'd probably be best doing all of chapter 1.1 for all orgs, then 1.2, then 1.3 etc. The org order generally won't matter much if you're rotating every subchapter.  Of course, you could also rotate every single mission, but that would probably lead to getting mixed up on some of the story details (or it would mix me up anyway hehe)

My personal suggestion would be to do all of the arcs for your chosen org starting from 1.1 all the way up to 11.2.  Then pick and choose from the different storyline pieces that you enjoy (and the specific clothing/fx items you want to get) to determine where to go from there.

Keep in mind there's a bunch of stuff to do other than arcs (constructs, exile dungeons, node key hunting, general exploring, etc.) to do along the way too.  Some of which (constructs and getting the best exile dungeon drops mainly) that you have to do at level and can't just go back to later.

To a new player there is a lot to do, as suggested the archive missions are a great start, and also the neighborhood contacts are an added dash of side story. Syntax is getting more population due to players leaving the other servers. If your looking for getting some better clothes, guns or even more abilities I would suggest seeking out a coder. Buying things off the market place is just going to eat up your $info.

new player here too (syntax.dedic) and i have to say i feel a bit behind the curve, but there does seem to be a slight resurge in new joins.  there are definitely a lot of lvl50 players who feel that they are better than you (and make sure you know it), but there are also plenty of kind players who are very supportive of us noobs.

as far as meeting the right people...  well, it is a matter of serendipity, but it will happen.  in my experience, you'll probably find more people willing to help you in various ways on the zion side of the equation -- i'm sure there are nice mechs and mervs, but in general people seem to gravitate towards their org based on their actual personality.  just a personal observation, tho (don't mean to stereotype anyone).

i'm loving the archived missions.  it can get a bit hairy and (at times) annoying doing them alone, but it is possible (with an occasional retreat to the "white halls", that is).  contact missions are fun too.  just don't be in a rush to level; soak in the mythos and ethos of the matrix, read the story text, and don't let it become a matter of how fast you can bang out a mission.  though for that last bar til your next level, running tiny/hard standard missions isn't so bad.

as far as video performance, i posted in the tech forum on this very subject (noone has responded as of yet).  i have a pretty badass system and i can't seem to get past 30fps outside.  i guess it's just the way it is.  that and a load of glitches make me think the developers were more concerned with content than bugfixing and technical improvements over the years, but oh well, i can deal with it.

so yeah, it's definitely worth it, despite mxo being a bit over-the-hill and all but abandoned by the developers who made it a complete blast (from what i hear, and read on this forum).

right now i'm lvl27 and my faction has players of all level-ranges, so feel free to look me up if you want to run missions or have questions -- we have some very helpful 50s.

good luck to you,

dedic
