Should we ignore that and act all ignorant until the person introduces themselves, or find an RP way to explain our knowledgable ways? I tried doing a thing where "My Operator dug up the info on you" deal, and that kinda worked, but I just wanted an opinion from someone else. I mainly try to stick to ignorance of the person's identity until we are properly introduced. Sometimes people skip this part of RP and somehow mysteriously know your name, when this happens I will usually just introduce myself to the person to get over that hurdle quickly and move on. I have also used the "operator" trick that you mentioned above and I think it is a feasible option...your operator knows alot and I dont think its a stretch at all considering how much help Morpheus and Trinity got from Link and Tank in the movies. Operators can find out alot of things for you or explain things that are going on in the Matrix that your RSI cant necessarily "see".

Operators can find out alot of things for you or explain things that are going on in the Matrix that your RSI cant necessarily "see". I think this is something worth discussing. When rping I usually go with exactly what you said above. I think that the operator trick can be useful at times, but instead of operator I tend to use "records". I haven't used it in a while so I can't exactly remember, but my main character that I rp with (Dissever) is Zion, so I try to stick with what Zion intel would have on this character. I think things like "our records show that your hovercraft disappeared from active duty some time ago.." would be appropriate for an EPN character, that kind of thing. Also, each RSI would have a signature in the code, and an operator should be able to match it to a list of known RSIs, if they don't already recognise it. This definitely should be restricted to organisation, unless your character is on a hovercraft that happened to switch from one org to another, and hence has access to at least a partial database of the old org... erm, that gets complicated! Anyway, my question is this: I want to create a new character by rping through the whole search and awakening thing with a redpill player (so I can actually say "[name] found me and showed me reality", and many other possible benefits). I don't have a character in mind yet, but what would be the best way to go about this?
Good input on the first topic!
As far as your question goes, if you are on the Syntax server I can help you with this situation. I and a few others have already RPed this scenerio and its a fun way for a "new" player to dive into the game immediately, from an RP standpoint.
First, you need to find one that will awaken you...hehe...I know that is obvious. But, you might want to pick someone who's hovercraft you will eventually join...that could open up your storyline more in the future. Of course, that is optional and really up to you.
How I have done this scene in the past, I will meet with the bluepill and talk with him for a while...eventually leading to taking a little red pill. Once this is done I invite the character into my mission team and run a recruitment mission with him...this usually leads to a computer or an Extraction Point (this makes it very easy to become immersed in the storyline). Sidenote: For a more dangerous recruitment...try doing this in International...then you really get the feel for having to avoid Agents while you are being extracted. This is optional as well, depending how realistic you want it to be or how you want your storyline to develop.
Once at the Extraction Point (the end of the mission, without fulfilling the last objective) you can RP the character being jacked out for the first time and "picking them up" in the Real World....in my experience its best to stop RPing when this is done, which makes sense because of the recovery time the character needs to go through from being "introduced" to the Real World. Make sure when you finish the RP to leave yourself in the Loading Area for the next time you jack in...this will help you get back into your character's mindset and basically continues your story from where you left off......The rest is up to you from that point.
I hope that helps! *smiles*
Hmm, yes, sounds like fun. The only thing that's missing is how I find this person to awaken my character in the first place. But I think this could be quite flexible, considering I don't have a character in mind at the moment. What I mean is that I want to try acting out a bluepill first before the awakening. The other issue is the training constructs, which I believe we will have to go through to create a character. I don't want to do things out of sync, but it would be nice to still go through this training.. any thoughts? Another question: is it really possible for someone to use a quote from e.g. Morpheus from a matrix film? The chance of that character actually having found out that Morpheus had said that is quite slim, I'd think.
1st Issue: Im sure you will find a RPer interested in awakening you, as you roam around as a bluepill....no worries there.
2nd Issue: Can help you there...I have never really thought about the training constructs before and they arent implemented ingame. The closest thing I think you will find are the White Hallways...but you will need an experienced player to get you into one. I think training simulation would do very well there.
Morpheus issue: I have been asked this before in another one of my threads and to be honest I cant remember how I responded...so I will come up with a new one and hope they match up *chuckles*
I think some of the more famous things Morpheus said, such as quoting some of his inspirational messages to his fellow operatives in all three of the films, would not be that "far-reaching" of a concept for players to use. Leader's inspirational words usually travels within the given community...look how much we use famous quotes in our varying cultures. For example, something from the Temple Speech or Cave Speech would be very easy to use since he was addressing all of Zion...some of the more private messages that he said to Neo privately would be just the opposite...such as, "The pleasure is still mine"...the last thing he said to Neo.
So you really have to look at how a certain quote was used in the movies and decide whether or not it would have been spread or whispered about in Zion or whether it probably didnt go past the ears that heard them. If you have any specific quotes you want my feedback on, feel free to ask.
Last thing, I read what you said in my biography thread (whether or not Zion knew of Merv before the 2nd movie) and all I can tell you is that you need to wait and see...I did think about this when creating this storyline and I think you will see in future "chapters" I covered my bases. My storyline is still a work in progress as far as transferring it to the forums...but the story is already developed fully elsewhere. I think if you read the whole story and not just these first few segments, you probably would have never asked me that question...Hehehe.
