Laptop specs:

Pentium 2.4 Ghz
Onboard video 64meg, can adjust to 128megs
768 DDR 2100, but 64/128 is eaten in video card.

I want to try to run mxo on it just so i can stay updated while I head out of town in a few days.

Think I'll be able to run it, at least good enough to log in and run around a bit?

what graphic card? I dont think it will run K :/
You need a radeon 9000 at the very least, even with that you will suffer major lag.

It will work, it will be very very laggy and might keep timing out on connecting (mine did anyway).

You might have a problem with your mouse pointer, which if you do you need to go into your MxO directory and edit the file called options.cfg.

If you can find a line which says Windowed = 0 then change it to Windowed = 1, otherwise just add windowed = 1 at the bottom of the file.

I've got a Radeon 9000 in my laptop and its not laggy.  In fact, thats the only thing I use to run MxO.  But 1 gig of ram might help that a little :smileywink:

I run MxO exclusively on my laptop. I have 1 GB RAM, nVidia FX Go5600 GFX card (8x AGP) and an Intel 4.3-ish GHz HyperThreaded CPU... I think, can't check at the mo. ( with plenty of HDD space )

The top factors affecting game performance are:
GFX card ( This is the biggest factor - unless you have a decent mobile card the game may not run )
RAM
CPU speed
Net connection speed

I would recommend setting your in-game GFX settings to lowest and turning off ped/car activity.
Also, external to the game, in windows display settings > Advanced make sure that your laptop has all battery saving optimisations turned off as they will seriously affect your GFX performance.

Make sure that your CPU is set to performance mode ( if you have CPU optimisation software running as most Toshiba / IBM / Sony laptops have by default ).

Kill off any filesharing or P2P software you may have running as well as any excess programs ( like VoIP programs such Skype or others like Quicktime ) running in your system tray ( the bit on your task bar next to the system clock ).

Run the game ONLY when plugged into the power adapter for the laptop ( this will make sure that any other automated power saving / performance killing settings are turned off by the hardware )

There are a few extra optimisations to do but they won't make too much difference.

I'll update this tomorrow ( it's 12:51am and I'm going to bed ). Best of luck.

Make sure when you install to the laptop that you copy your current PC MxO install director over to the laptop afterwards ( see my sticky thread "Backup... It's what's for breakfast" ) otherwise you will spend the trip patching rather than playing SMILEY

Onboard graphics is pretty much the bane of MMO games (and quite a few high end game as well). So for your situation I do not believe you will be able to play MxO on your current laptop.

So I'm looking for a new laptop to replace this one.  I would go desktop, but since having a laptop I really like the mobility it allows me.  So this is a question to all you laptop users out there.  (I think I have narrowed my current desktop and laptop issue to not lack of ram but lack of VIDEO card's capibility... {Geforce fx 5200 and radeon 200m})

Laptop I'm looking at:
Gateway MT6451
AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-50
1-1.5 - 2 GB ram (most likely 1.5)
ATI RADEON XPRESS 1150 graphics with up to 256MB of HyperMemory (Basically 12-16MB local the rest taken from system memory)

What you guys think?  will the X1150 handle it?  or would I be better off spending a little more for a laptop w/ a
Geforce go 6150 288 MB ram (taken from system)
same memory
same Processor
Only difference is manufacturer, and I'm not picky (I work with them all the time, I work @ geek squad now actually, and see absolutely no difference or preferance with brand. only reason I gave a model for the gateway is if people have that specific model to give insight)

Also will be using the 2 GB thumbdrive I have on this one for readyboost (Not as good as ram, but it helps)

right now I have a AMD sempron 2800+ 640 MB ram (2gb readyboost made it run a bit better but still not all there)  and a 128 mb raedon x200m in this laptop and it runs enough that it works, but is practically unplayable.

Buy it. I own this laptop you have mentioned and it runs MxO just fine. I would look into making it 2 gig ram.
