The digital clock on the wall displays 7:16pm as Sandra Pierce, an administration associate for a lithium battery manufacturer, receives an anonymous phone call just as she’s about to leave the office for the evening.
“…Hello?”
“Hello, Dephect. I am Ezechiel.”
There is a short pause before a female voice replies.
“How...How do you know that name? What’s this about?”
“I know a lot of things about you, Dephect. I know that you’ve been having nightmares about things you can’t explain. I know that you’ve asked the questions that many of us have. You’ve seen something…you know something is wrong with the world, but it all seems like a bad dream. A dream you’re expecting to wake up from.”
The woman pauses again. These words clutch her, as if he were reading her mind, reciting thoughts and skepticism she held for the past year.
“What the hell do you want? How do you know all this?” she whispered nervously as she stepped out of her office and into the hallway.
“Quite simply, I want to show you the answers to the questions you ask; the questions that drive us. I know all this because I was like you not long ago…searching for the answers. I felt that something was wrong. I learned later that this “something” had a name…”
Sandra whispers again. “The Matrix…”
“Do you want to know what it is?”
“Yes.” She replied quietly.
“Good…then we’ll need to meet, although I must warn you. There are men in suits, Agents that have found out that we’ve been looking for you and will try to use you to get to us.
“You mean the Feds? I’ve seen them around lately...”
“They’ll be coming for you. I’ll be parked just outside the main entrance…black car. If you want to know the truth, you’ll need to leave that building before they arrive…”
There is a click and the phone call ends.
