Anyankaa was extracted by Merovingians during the early days post truce. The process being not nearly as refined as it is today, caused a most undesirable accident to ocur. During the procedure an explosion caused her eyes a great deal of damage, the result of this she is unable to see in the real. The damage was able to be undone within the matrix following months of rehabilitation, though in the real her eyes refused to respond.
The operative responsable took her under his wing, moddifing his craft to accept flight instructions from a local construct. Combined with sensors on the hull this allows Anyankaa to pilot the ship as if seeing for herself. Not having the heart to further burden her , the program was written to show the world as it was and not the decrepid wasteland it is now.
Awesome to hear the back stories too. This shot reminds of me of Renaissance for some reason.

"There is a place inside us that tells us fighting is pointless, but we persist. What is the reason we feel compeled to continue? Is it a hope for a better tommorow? A chance for freedom? Perhase the reason we strugle endlessly is just in our nature. For hundreds of years the human race has been opressed by the machines in their quest for energy. What if the reason we fight is not by fault but design? Even when a relative peace was achived we again turned to conflict. Not content to accept the reality of the situation, we took up arms as once we did before. We provoked the machines into breaking the fragile truce that was carved out with the blood of so many. How many have fallen as a consequence of our actions? a hundred? a thousand? We may never escape this cycle of death. It may be our fate to continue on repeating the sins of our fathers. We won our freedom once and threw it away, if we should ever obtain it again will we be able to accept it?"

What program are you using to create the 3-d enviroment, and do the 3-d rendering of the character?
Hell, if you ever need a page layout/web page done by a designer, I would happily trade that for a 3d rendering of my character.
Get a hold of me sometime, I would love to see what else you do.
