My problem is that when I open up the launcher, the sound of the keys just continues,
even though nothing is being written. That's not perfectly normal, is it?

No, I would check your sound drivers but as with all posts in this forum please check the Stickied threads about the properly format for requesting help.

I know the problem you mean and I'm guessing you have Vista.
It seems that the launcher's sound is only single channel and under vista one sample has to finish before the next one starts (instead of under XP where the samples end when the next one wants to start.)

If that is the only side-effect I wouldn't worry, if it is causing problems in game as well then write back and let us know.

Yes, I run Vista, which probably causes it.

I also have a problem ingame, everytime I try to reduce/higher the Audio in the Options>Audio panel, some of the ingame sounds disappear.

The launcher propblem is  minor annoyance but the sounds ingame is worse. I don't know the cause, but for a very long time on both XP and Vista I've had my combat sounds drop in and out. It drives me crazy.
I've added extra audio channels as well as reduced the number of audio channels and nothing seems to make a difference.

I'm running a Soundblaster X-Fi platinum, so the card is certainly up to the job. If I think of anything I'll post back

Same here on both issues...on more than one machine, the sounds are just generally inconsistent.  Some days it's just amazing the 3-D environmental effects and the clarity of the playback.  Others, it's just me and the creepy sounds of my footsteps echoing behind me.  On everything from integrated audio to an X-Fi Fatal1ty...
