Gunmen are simply too close in interlock, especially versus a Martial Artist or other hand-to-hand fighter.

While I realize that mid-range interlock had to be removed for the good of the 2-participant system, the extreme close range that characters are currently set at is simply no good for gunmen. Under the old system, Martial Artists used to close the distance with a successful move, and gunmen used to increase it. Frankly, I don't see the need for the removal of this system, as it allows interlock battles to look more natural (and certainly does away with that problem of guns sticking through one's opponent's body).

As physical distance in interlock is rarely enough to affect combat (most specials go out to a distance of 4 meters), it seems like playing with distance depending on what animation is shown wouldn't really affect the "hard" aspects of combat, while it would certainly make things look more realistic.

Am I nuts? Discuss.

You can't be serious.....Equilibrium sucked? Wow.....That was by far one of the more superior films I've ever seen. And it was only made on like a 200k budget. Kurt Wimmer's next movie looks just as badass....

Well, obviously moves like Rifle Butt Smash and Pistol Whip should be close range.
But the other moves need to be moved back a touch.

especially because of the problem with guns sticking into the opponent - while that could be a coolmove in and of itself, if it was intentional...  :smileyvery-happy:

Ahem.. Equilibrium does not suck.

As for fighting to close, i think how it is right now is perfectly fine. Just need to make sure the NPC's and players are pointing the right direction when in interlock.

Yes, gunners should be backed up a bit.  Why?  It makes a difference when fighting MA vs gunner.  most MA abilities have a limited range, which makes it more tactical to use gunner skills vs MA, because most Gunner skills have a much longer range in IL.  So yes I do agree with you, but for a different reason.

I also would be happy if my gun didn't pass through my opponents body every time I get pulled into IL
