So would it be beneficial for someone with an old rig (*cough*  this guy) to leave that unchecked?  I assume that having that enabled loads the Sector LOD's on jackin as opposed to when it's needed, right?

They're working on it, so hopefully it'll be sorted pretty soon.

I hate the Station launcher, the friends list registers every SOE charecter you've ever made (or almost all) clogging up the friends list with no ability (that I've seen) to get rid of those ex characters from the list, it's slow and makes you go through a lot more to jack in. Plus it makes you bypass the LA completely. These issues were brough up by people when the beta came out and as far as I can tell they've not been sorted out.

I've never used the station launcher, and I'm stuck at work for the next five hours...

Anyway, as to the issue with registering every SOE char you've ever made, I know that in the MxO game folder, there's another folder in there (I forget what it's called, but I think it's /Characters/ or something of the like) that stores all of the characters you've created in folders.

I wonder if deleting those old folders would resolve this issue?

Anyway, got my fingers crossed for when I get home.

It's simple, the reason why MxO owned so much for going on 3 and a half years now was because the story, unlike in other games, had someone telling it, now we have NPCs and content that doesn't matter telling a half baked story about what? Overrides? Some random colorful people that seem to be all mighty??? These people aren't even really a story!!!! The story of the Matrix should be epic! Not half baked!!! ffs people come up with an original story for this game, one that will excite people, not drive them away!!! You need real people playing these people, NPCs are bs imho, and you can raise their lvls all you want, you can make them ubber and even able to call for backup like these new nubs, but the fact of the matter is, that no matter what you do, nothing will compaire to the awsome events we've had, where you could rp with someone that accutually matters in the story! Now all we get is bs content and npcs with nothing but text and alittle reused content.

Once again I demand a response from you SOE, and I demand it soon, because frankly, I'm getting sick of this bs.

Skull, no offense, dude, but or else what?

You are making these "demands" as if you hold some sort of stock in the outcome.  If you really want your message to be heard and understood, I'd first start at not using acronyms like ffs imho and the like.  Honestly, if your demands are "fix it or else I quit," I fail to see how that will motivate anyone to do anything.  Afterall, if you do quit, that's just one less whiny voice on the forums complaining that SoE has ruined this game.

I think that most people have come to agree that the New Approach leaves quite a bit of wanting.  For the most part, I've kept my trap shut on these changes, because I knew the initial drop wouldn't not end up being the finished product.  You've got to admit that as far as the mindless farming goes, it's a little better / more interesting in the 12.1 missions than it was in the 11.3 wash rinse repeat craziness.  That being said, there's still a huge hole left in the wall from the New Approach blowing through it.  We're close...  pretty *darn* close, and with a little more time and attention, I think we could be in a pretty good spot.

Regardless, there's got to be another way to do this other than pleading and demanding on a forum that someone with the power in SoE to read and implement changes will never see.

Not entirely, I've seen quite a few lower level people running around these days.

That said, Kung Fu is a good starting point, but you're by no means locked to what you choose.  You can always switch up your abilities at any point.  I'd recommend grinding through the starting missions up until the point where you get the call from the Machines and the Merovingian.  At this point, you start accruing reputation points with the organizations, so you'll want to make a decision then as to who you'll be working with.

Pros and Cons to the organizations...  Well, to be perfectly honest, it depends on you and where you want to take your character.  If you're going the RP route, is your character going for the freedom of humanity or for money and power within the simulation? If you're not into the RP thing, then I'm probably not the best person to speak to about this, but I know there's quite a few active PvPers out there who would probably be more than happy to have some fresh meat.  Heh.

Anyway, I'm in the Trust with ol' Fenny up there, so likewise, if you ever need anything, just look me up.

Yeah.  I imagine SOE meetings go something like a meeting I had at a couple of years ago at my last job.  I'll never forget it, because it was incomprehensible to me.

(lightly paraphrased to protect the poor useless product and the moron upper management with shady business practices)
Boss:  "So we need to talk about [product] support."
Me:  "Wait, you mean people still pay for [product]?"
Boss:  "Well, yeah.  I mean, it's one-of-a-kind.  It's the only product that does what it does, so there's a niche market."
Me:  "But it's antiquated technology!  No one even uses pagers any more, do they?"
Boss:  "We want to get rid of it, but it brings in money, and it's still profitable as long as we don't spend any time on it.  We need to essentially stop supporting it in the hopes that people will stop using it.  However, we don't want to actively drop it since people are still willing to pay for it.  Some people are paying for it and aren't even using the product any more, and it could be a problem for us if they realize that they still pay us every month for something they're not using."
Me:  "Well, I'm supposed to be the top tier support for it, and I didn't even know it was still in use, so I'd say we have that one nailed down.  Still, that seems... off."
Boss:  "Yeah, you're right.  Still, don't spend any man hours working on it if anything comes up.  If the server happens to die, we'll at least be done with it."

I'd say that accurately describes our current situation, mm?

That's the other thing.

A lot of people are holding out hope for something... a word, a letter, a gesture of some kind showing that they acknowledge that we still exist, but it won't come.  It's not like it's mere coincidence that it has been silent this long.  I daresay that those that still have ties to this game and still actually see the forums may even feel bad for us, because their hands are tied and they can't say or do anything.  I admit, I could be wrong.

What's worse, instead of having an actual gag order on those still directly involved with this game, the decision makers are probably shutting them out.  If/when they ask for information to answer questions for us, they're probably told, "we're still deciding on that," or something equally evasive and dismissive.

As for when I quit?  I'm not sure yet.  I just rolled up a character over on Syntax.  I'm not officially saying goodbye to my Recursion characters, but I figured I'd go poke my nose around over there, too.  Regardless of what some people say, there are never dozens and dozens of people running around on Recursion.  I have two involved characters on Recursion, and I haven't seen dozens and dozens of people.  Maybe I'm just sheltered.

Community General Discussion We Are The Problem. Re:Re:We Are The Problem. QuiDormit 0 04/14/2009 09:55

Naah, there's not one "problem" that is causing this, there's a myriad of them.

While I agree that the excessive forum negativity is a blemish on the community, you can't stop people from complaning about things any more than you can get SOE to give us a few words on the condition and future of our game here.  Neither is likely to happen.  Someone will always find something to complain about, and the thing is unless they're using faulty data to come up with their opinions, no one is wrong.  We can post about how people should either shut up and play or quit, but that won't do anything.

The only way to truly combat the negativity is to give the new players something to do, something to see, something to be a part of.  Try to get people together to make positive posts to balance out the negative ones.  Host events and fearlessly post them on the forums.  Telling people who are bitter and angry to shut up is not going to work.  The only answer is to do instead of say.  Good luck.

BTW by this, I do not mean start threads like this calling people out, and I don't mean posting in the negative threads with positive words.  I mean entirely separate threads that have nothing to do with the state of this game and more to do with events or offerings...  Like someone (maybe it was Greymountain?) did a while back...  He did a newbie hardline tour and assisted with training.  Things like that.  Offer the new players an alternative to leaving.

The point I'm trying to make is you have to jump in and do something about it.  These sorts of threads just don't work.

A simple way to save MxO: If SOE would hire a (or some) new developer(s) to progress the story-line, start live-events, fix bugs (especially with new OS and GPUs), perhaps do something for probably new redpills (the game leaves you a bit alone at this point, if you don't know anybody to ask) and do a little (!) bit advertisement, even only on sonys own websites (they hide the game if you ask me), the game would live on, and make money for SOE... Let a game which includes so much work and possibilities die, is stupid (from business).

Oh, and SOE should offer a normal, direct way to Trial-keys! (getting them through a myspace-site is a bit... strange, for such a company)

Yes, I know, will never happen blahblah, but it could. Not much money and personal would be needed to keep MxO interesting for most of the old fanbase, and also addict some new players... (the game would never become like WoW of course).

Not to mention all the possibilities the game/Matrix-license would still offer... (PVE-Constructs, perhaps vehicles and stuff...)

Well yeah.  This game could totally be revived if SOE decided to throw 50, 60, hell why not 100k at someone and say "dude, fix some **** and make all these players happy!"

It would also be cool if SOE bought everyone subscribed to the game sweet-*** trench coats and sunglasses so we could all dress up like NEO!!!!!!!111

Oh I know, SOE should maybe like, like if they bought us all ice cream cones every time we jacked in and they found some awesome way to like...  to send us ice cream cones through some kind of teleporter.  Snap, that'd be cool.

Or...  We could wake up and stop expecting anything at all from them and just play the game while it's still here.

I said this in another thread, and I'm only repeating it because it's something to think about.

Do you know how much money that they have saved since Rare has left?  If you want to really look at the big picture from a business perspective...  MxO costs very little to run at this point.

Personally, I think Rare left because he was given a choice.  I think they couldn't afford him and MxO anymore, so they told him that he could either stay and they continue to pay him and put the final nail in MxO's coffin, or he can leave and MxO can continue on with everything left.

That's just me though.

Community General Discussion Empty Servers - Why? Re:Empty Servers - Why? QuiDormit 0 05/20/2009 06:07

There's a glaring omission on your list:  No new content.  No new story.  No new anything.  What MxO is right this minute is what MxO will continue to be until the end.

As someone who joined the party pretty late, I totally understand how awesome the game seems, and how confusing it is that no one seems to be around to play it anymore.  The thing is, everything that's brand new to you is really old to everyone else.

No one wants to play the same things that they've done a hundred times before, you know?  After a while, repetition is boring.

Even if today there were new devs brought in, you figure you've got a huge learning curve to figure out how to even use half of the tools that remain since there's no one left who really knows it to even begin to teach it.  Sure "it can't be that hard," but when it comes down to it, learning costs more money than it would make.  To pay someone to mess around with the source code but not produce anything for at least one... two, hell maybe even up to six months would be craziness at this point.

Community General Discussion Is this the end of the Matrix Franchise? Re:Is this the end of the Matrix Franchise? QuiDormit 0 06/01/2009 05:47

A huge problem is that most people can't handle the ending of the Movies...  If three had a more... "average movie-goer" ending (NEO WINSSSS HUMANS ARE FREEEE!!!!11!), then more people would have liked two, IMO.

The first movie put you in a world that you'd never dreamed of, storytelling wise.  The second shattered all of that.  People who aren't fans of the movie just can't handle that.  A lot of non-fans still don't understand Neo's sacrifice was for man and program alike.  In fact, in general there's a lot they don't understand.

That's kind of why the W Bros stepped in the way they did at the end of PON.  But we already know all of this...

As to the OP, is it the end?  Probably.  I don't particularly see the W Bros releasing the rights so that some other directors/writers could take a crack at a movie, and no game company is going to make another game after the disasters that happened before.  Don't forget, MxO wasn't just received poorly, so was Enter the Matrix and Path of Neo.

Sucks, but I think this might be the end of the rabbit hole.
