No, it was more like "You'll be all smiles - and very little else - if you remember that it's this type of cheese that's used to make Welsh Rarebit."  No contestant got it right, either.

Cheese for Rarebit is like Spinach for Popeye: without it, he's toast!

Thanks Rarebit!  Keep shaking things up, even if it is only temporary.  Did you hear the question about you on Jeopardy  Monday night?  It finally shed light on why you picked that name for MxO.

Community General Discussion Max Rep Meet Niobe (now with more storyline correction) Re:Max Rep Meet Niobe (now with more storyline correction) PS10N 0 10/14/2007 00:33
Just for the sake of historical clarity, the Merovingian allowed the Effectuator to examine and defeat the code barriers locking Bishop Imports away from the normal structure of the Megacity.  Zion, Merovingian and even some Machine operatives assisted in taking down the hordes of Unlimits trying to stop the Effectuator.  I was running up against the final barrier into the stairwell when it came down, thus being the first Redpill to enter Niobe's "cell."  I went to the top of the stairwell and back down before Niobe materialized, then back out of the stairwell to res people and ended up dead myself.  Brethren member Morphesu, a vet named XBoxster and others had entered the stairway as Niobe appeared.  It was a good joint effort between Zion and the Merovingian's operatives and we could use another event like it any time.

Welcome back.  First jack-in was 990 days ago today, in late beta.  /play time is nearly 200 days.  Been here so long, I've got to calling it home.  Never going to leave until there's no place left to come to.  Look me up in game - a lot has changed but a lot has stayed the same, too.  YIM/Live/email: [email protected], Xfire: ps10n, in game: soe.mxo.recursion.ps10n

Community General Discussion Helloween Event and his negative sides Re:Helloween Event and his negative sides PS10N 0 11/04/2007 11:54
That was DragonRipperGER's very first post since joining our "community" and he was met with bad attitudes and hate.  Shame on you all who said "get over it," you have disgraced yourselves.  This is his very first experience of MxO and the forums; he doesn't have the base-line to compare Halloween against what we veterans take as normal MxO.  He also brings up a valid point.  AFK farming is not allowed and the Headless were recently adjusted just for that very reason.  His observation will help us have a better Halloween next year.  He's done exactly what a good community member should by politely posting his concerns.  Reeverbs and Havocide, thanks for being good community members.  Those who were negative toward him, get out of my house with your muddy boots on, you're a disgrace and should be banned for Trolling.

DragonRipperGER,

Welcome to MxO.  We have a great game here and there are some great community members around despite the Trolls who are deliberately trying to ruin the forums and the game.  Thanks for your input; the darkness levels can be adjusted with instructions at the link Havocide posted.  Those who AFK farm are breaking the agreement they made when they signed in, and so are not trustworthy.  The other sincere veterans of MxO welcome you to MxO and hope you enjoy it as much as we do and stay a long time.

Community General Discussion **SPOILERS** Cinematic 9.1 Re:**SPOILERS** Cinematic 9.1 PS10N 0 11/16/2007 13:34
Longer dissertation pending, this is just a quick aside to note that it is very disturbing that the idea of "23 people starting again with nothing" after "Zion ... destroyed; its every living inhabitant terminated, its entire existence eradicated" is being called "saved Zion."  Remember, where we Zionists live now is New New New New New New Zion and none of them have ever been truly "saved," only one temporary save which Neo accomplished.  Killing 250,000 people so that 23 can start over in a new location is not "saving" a city.

Thread, We may not know who or what this newcomer to Megacity is, but I will tell you all this: he will not be controlled.  By anyone.

CK01, I understand that it wasn't your point and was only bringing to light that the Architect's words ("[door] leads to the salvation of Zion") have stuck in people's minds as accurately descriptive instead of being sardonic as they were intended.

Community General Discussion Is this what it has come too? Re:Is this what it has come too? PS10N 0 11/16/2007 11:36
People who load a support role during a combat event will never get a reward for the total-damage-inflicted/top-damage-inflicted/killing-blow categories, yet those who do get the awards probably couldn't have done it without the buffs/heals/res that the support players gave them.  When this was brought up, the next week Rarebit held an event where the goal was to get Niobe to a Hardline.  She was killed and was ressed twice.  Two players got thanks, though it's unsure if they got any reward item.  The relevant point here is, one of those two didn't actually res her: one did and the other res was from someone else who got no credit or reward at all.   When this was brought up, the next update patch included a new feature which shows clearly who used the res. (The devs do listen to our reasonable concerns!) Other goals, such as retrieving data or being the first to get somewhere or find someone, make things more fair because then it's not always about loading as a tank. It's not a perfect system; as Leo points out, someone can do all the leg work and someone else get the reward.  The point here is, as players we never know what prerequisite has to be met to earn the reward.  Some events had no rewards at all, even though they were 100% combat based.  The EPN event earlier this week was one of those where a reward might have been available for a number of accomplishments.  Ultimately, a Liason doesn't have the real authority to say who is getting a reward, as the rewards are sent out by Rarebit or another Dev.  In most cases, these are based on input from the Liaison, who should be very careful in telling the participating players anything that sounds definitive or like a promise.   So in this case, the oversight was when the Liason told someone that he was getting a reward.  Problems like this in the future can be completely avoided by Liaisons simply not over-stepping their authority.  Instead of saying "You're getting a reward for that," he could have said "I will recommend to our superiors that you get a reward for that."  Then, if ANYTHING comes up (org-hopping, mistaken identity, mistake about which action is getting a reward, etc.) where the player doesn't get the reward, it does not come across as a broken promise.  All that being said, it's only a "for show" item in a game!  There will be plenty of opportunities in the future to "get yours."
So even if you were promised something and didn't get it, be a good sport and congratulate the winner and resolve to keep doing your best to get yours the next time the opportunity arises.

Community General Discussion Later all! Re:Later all! PS10N 0 12/03/2007 11:35
Ok, so we have a couple weeks of party planning to do.  It would be useless to set a time for the party when YOU couldn't make it, so it's best if you set the day and time for the party!  We should just use this thread for that, and make it an event to remember.  So, schedule away, guest of honor, and we'll take it from there.
Community General Discussion Saying Goodbye to MegaCity Re:Saying Goodbye to MegaCity PS10N 0 12/08/2007 13:50
It's a shame to see a great Recursion player leave.  There's an old saying, "Don't let the bastards wear you down."  There are a lot players who delight in making things worse for a game and community, but the only way to beat them is to outlast them.  After all, someone trying to ruin an environment won't stay there, while someone dedicated to improving it will.  Get your friends together around you, invite me too if you want, and talk about the issues.  The best of MxO are very talented in many different areas.  Sure we can come up with something to make things better for you.
Community General Discussion Saying Goodbye to MegaCity Re:Saying Goodbye to MegaCity PS10N 0 12/08/2007 14:47
You'll be missed, Rosi.  Though we were only acquaintances, the conversations were always good.  I didn't mean to suggest anyone could make it all better somehow, only that if you wanted to talk about it, there is still a little time.

Community General Discussion Please give us Appearance Slots! Re:Please give us Appearance Slots! PS10N 0 12/14/2007 13:02
It should be pointed out that changing apparel during a duel or PvP (or any combat) is not an exploit and not stacking unless the RSI was wearing apparel with the same Influences as an Upgrade when the Upgrade was applied.  I'm a little confused as to why people don't change apparel whenever they need a certain influence.  Why be pasted all over the concrete when you can change to the apparel you need to win?  I'm also a little confused as to why the Devs don't just fix it so that Influences from Apparel are not included when an Upgrade is applied.

Community General Discussion A thank you... Re:A thank you... PS10N 0 12/15/2007 12:38

You can have free speech or you can have no one offended, but you can't have both.
Last I read the Constitution, it provides for the former, not the latter.
I'd rather be free to say what I please and take the risk of being offended by what others say,
than live in a country where no one is offended because people are not free to say what they please.
Community General Discussion A thank you... Re:A thank you... PS10N 0 12/15/2007 14:54
Appearances can be deceiving but assumptions are self deceiving. I understand that it is easy to misunderstand and misthink that the way I choose to dress is based on a game or a movie.  If you're willing, learning the real reasons why I choose to dress this way will alleviate your misunderstanding.  This habit has been with me for 21 years, much longer a season than any movie or game fad, but to say more might be pushing the TOS even further than simply saying, "Merry Christmas; Peace on Earth, goodwill toward wo/men."

We do not disclose our plans to our enemies.  Rest assured, there is a plan.  BTW - there are no caves in New or Old Zion.  There is the Temple Cavern, which is a lot different from a cave.  Also, monkeys have tails, humans don't, so you're 0 for 2.

Community General Discussion Neo: The One through Prophecy, or...? Re:Neo: Really The One? PS10N 0 12/20/2007 19:48
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to post it if they choose, even if it is a disagreement with another opinion previously posted.  My opinion was and continues to be that the linked article is full of inaccuracies and ignorance.  Sorry if anyone doesn't like that people who disagree actually do post their opinion, but don't expect it to stop.  By definition I've committed no "ad hominem" because my posts were opinions about ideas, not about the people posting the ideas.  I attacked no one in any way and if you think so, you're mistaken.  The fact that he's younger and less experienced than me is not an insult or an attack, it's merely a fact.  Now I understand why I'm coming under attack so much from you.  It's because I dare to tell the truth unabashedly. Too bad.  You took my remark about needing a degree to discuss The Matrix seriously?!  SMILEY When someone brings me a computer to fix, which they have obviously botched themselves, I sometimes remark that people should get a degree before being allowed to own a computer, but no one actually thinks I'm serious!  Whoa, you don't know what moral fiber is?  Well, now you have something new to go learn about.  An example of what passes for a logic system for me is the multi-user multi-tasking home automation and security operating system I designed and programmed in machine code for embedded microprocessor devices.  Good enough, rookie? I'm glad to hear you won't be responding, because frankly the time its taking to reply is detracting from the on-topic post being prepared.

You wrote text in a condescending manner, in a way insulting everyone who posted on this thread agreeing or at least sharing some sort of similar opinion on the first post. You deserve whatever personal attack was thrusted upon you, and furthur by hiding behind the EULA to insult said people when someone decides to speak against you in a manner that isn't hiding behind the TOS/EULA.

If you want debate, I'll be glad to show you errors and logic on xfire after work.
Another misunderstanding on the part of a reader.  I wasn't disagreeing with the first post, which was provocative in that a work of fiction can be so complex and in-depth that someone can question the very origins of a main character nearly 10 years after his first introduction.  I was disagreeing with a later post which was full of opinions contradicted by the films.

Those who are offended easily or who take insults to heart probably don't stay on any forum for very long because of the vast quantity of messages which are in violation of terms/guidelines, so if you are the type without thick skin, please continue to stay logged in to be offended by my freely spoken opinions.  No one deserves a personal attack no matter what they post, as that is against the TOS.  Expecting people to do what they agree to do isn't "hiding" behind anything, but rather shows the character and moral fiber of those who can't seem to do what they agreed to do.

As for the Xfire comment, I hardly think I'm going to deign to be lectured by a child about logic when I've been mastering logic systems for longer than he's been alive.

I'm continuing to read the posts between my last and this, so the topical issue will be written about at length, including the specific issues from the movies which I didn't have time to elaborate in my first post.  Perhaps if I'd written, "I disagree completely and I'll explain why tomorrow when I have time," then there wouldn't have been such a fiery precipitation.  Also, the second comment in my post wasn't about any post here, but about an external linked article!  So, in the future, take a moment to determine exactly what's being criticized before going on the defensive.

EDIT:  It's becoming increasingly more clear that people seemed to think I was disagreeing with the original post and not the machine opinion posted afterwards.  Future posts will provide more context.

Final EDIT: The insights by ManicV, MotorZ and further detail from ShiXinFeng have me molified - for now.  I still think the forest is being missed for the trees, but I'd better write up a complete essay about it to avoid being called.

I'm heading over to the SWG forums to start a thread called "Luke: really a Jedi?"  The STO forums will need "Spock: really a half-Vulcan?"  Interesting topic?  More like an obvious absurdity.  Disagreeing with statements which are contradicted in nearly every scene of all three movies shouldn't be that hard to understand.

Four off-topic insults, all unfounded.

Perhaps I should have quoted ShiXinFeng's points so that it would have been more evident what I was disagreeing with, rather than have people assume I was attacking the poster.

What a load of Machine crap.  I find it hard to believe we even watched the same movies.  I disagree completely, but what else is new?

EDIT: I read the linked article as far as I could, which was about three paragraphs.  By that point, the author's inaccuracies and ignorance became nauseating.  Degrees in philosophy and comparative religion should be required before discussing The Matrix trilogy, otherwise... well, the 'net was full of it long before the sequels were done.

More clarifications... "machine opinion" was intended in the sense of "opinion which is biased toward the machines [mechanicals/A.I.]" and was not intended to indicate the Machine organization of Redpills.  Roukan, I probably mistook that you wanted to debate about forum decorum while you probably meant a debate about Neo/The One.  I was too harsh on you; you've never been anything but an asset to the community, even if you're a bit of an asset from time to time!  Sorry man, if I was Kshana then I'd have a female RSI make out with Roukey to make it up to you.

Canon source for Morpheus as a newly awakened child,  and here he is shown with two elder generations.  If anyone is a candidate for one of the 23 Awakened by the Fifth One, it's Hammon or another one of the eldest council members, though with 100 years of history, there should be four generations living in Zion, with Link's niece and nephew being the great grandchildren of the original 23, possibly the great great grandchildren.

EDIT: no d in Hammon

Community General Discussion The Question of Intentions Remains Re:The Question of Intentions Remains PS10N 0 12/21/2007 23:21
Logic can never be used as an accurate predictor of human behavior, simply because humans do not base their choices on logic alone.  While it may play a part, there are also emotional and utilitarian necessities which trump logic and make it basically useless as a predictor of the outcome of actions involving human choice.  This is part of the reason why the machines had to develop an intuitive program designed to explore aspects of the human psyche before a workable version of the Matrix could be implemented.  Example: in a motor vehicle slide, the logical course would be to release any acceleration and braking and steer into the slide, but it's more likely, given the emotional response of an inexperienced driver, that he will panic and lock up the brakes, making the situation worse.  How often, in the course of human history, has an action had the exact opposite of the desired outcome which initiated the action?
