  As the second of my 'I should have written about this ages ago but couldn't be arsed' articles today, I bring you health inhalers. The overlooked counterpart of health pills, it seems that nobody uses them anymore. Still, tell me what's wrong with this picture?



Heals 90 damage every 2.5 seconds, right? Ok, now tell me what you see in my system chat. Exactly. These inhalers are healing a little over a quarter of what they should be healing. This happens regardless of what resistances you're wearing, so I'm presuming this is a bug.

I get an average of three sweeps per inhaler, which amounts to a grand total of 69 health. I believe that someone might have mis-read the description, presumed there were four sweeps spaced 2.5 seconds apart (it lasts for approximatly 10 seconds) and hence make a useful little thing that repairs 90 damage (or 69 accounting for the lost sweep) over a period of time, rather than every 2.5 seconds.

So, yeah. Especially if this doesn't get fixed, don't go wasted 44,000 info on even one of these things :/

  This is an animation bug that I, and several dozen other people I suppose, have known about for a long time. However due to the ... err ... frequency which I am coming across it lately, I thought it was about time to make a post about it. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: The Arse Boner:



Only reproducable when you're naked and the buttocks near the floor. All I can think is that there's a fixed point from which most animations are drawn, and that clothing normally disables showing the line from this point to the actual animation body. If so, I suppose that's something that will never get 'fixed', but I'm whining about it anyway SMILEY

Bonus points to anyone who can figure out where the screenies were taken SMILEY

I know the forums are going down soon, but hopefully this
message will get across. Just a repost of a PM that I found the
response to rather interesting:

Interesting NPC in Zion 1.2.15

In
the Zion mission 1.2.15 I've just had an NPC buff me with Efficiency,
Bolster health 2.0, Movement accelerator 3.0, Combat Enhancement 1.0,
Dodge Bullets (Or something like that) and several sweeps.

What's the likelyhood that you could take a look at the code routines that governed that and stick it on the Patch Daemon

  Hmm, now this is interesting:







Comments anyone? I know Karate GM buff is the first
to go when someone uses delete upgrades on you and you're not running
any buff buffs. It doesn't actually get removed, for reference. But I
don't think a Karate Move should really be doing this.

Well, it's about time that something was done about this
sorely neglected tree. But, as my further analysis is setting out to
prove, the changes are nowhere near enough.

Basic Info:

Level 50 Character
Maxed Data Siphon and Locate Data Node. Nothing else from that tree other than those two abilities.
This
analysis will be done on info rather than XP, because the level 50 is
at Max XP and hence any other XP earned does not show. However in
general Datanode XP payout is 1/5th as much again as info.

The Locations:

Area |  Level | Info Received


Uriah: Level 1:  Average: 50 info

Eshean Projects: Level 14: Average: 750 info

Shinjuku: Level 21: Average: 1,000 info

Bathary Row: Level 26: Average: 1,400 info

Morell: Level 36: Average: 1,800 info

Stratford Campus/Creston Heights: Level Highest I could Think of: Average: 2,100 info

The Comparisons:

Killing Lt. Morales and Co. Approx 300k info over 4 minutes (240 seconds)

An optimal level 50 Assasination Mission; 2 'kill a 3 chev level 51' stages over 6 minutes (320 seconds) (615k)

The time to perform a single tap is being taken as 15 seconds, to account for transit time and possible failed attemps.

2,100 info * 2 = 8,400 info per 15 seconds.

300,000/8,400 = 35.7 = 36

240/15 = 16


In
order to equal the info output of killing Lt. Morales, you would need
to perform 36 taps. This, however, would take 540 seconds. As it is,
you can only get 16 taps, or 134,400 info in this time.

175 + 2*220 = 615,000

615,000 / 8,400 = 73.2

320 / 15 = 21.33..r


This
is even worse. To equal the mission payout, you'd need 73 taps in the
same amount of time. However it is only actually possible to do 21. And
that's assuming that a mission takes the full 6 minutes, which at level
50 it normally doesn't.

As for Pandora's box GPS mission ... I'm not even going to start.

Conclusion:

So, what do we have so far? Even WITH
the proposed changes, Data Miner will still suck. Big time. Not to
mention that 3/4 of the abilities under that branch no longer do
anything. Going all the way back to beta, maybe the 'advanced data
goggles' ability meant something. But when the system was changed just
before live, they became useless. And remain so to this day. All I need
to load my advanced data goggles is Siphon Data Node, not the specific
ability which is supposed to control them.

Solution?

As
I've stated before, we need at least an 8-10 times boost in the info
output of Data Miner for it to become a viable tree again. Plus,
obviously the abilities themselves need a revamp. Hopefully this'll
make some interesting reading for a certain Dev who's thinking about
working on the abilities SMILEY

You would have though that after one broken DOT gun was found, the devs
would check for the rest. Apparantly not. Let's take a look at the
stats for the Q-Gun shall we?






Q-Gun (Revolver)




Reuse time: 4.5secs



Base Damage 4-4pts



Range: 16m



Damage (20% Chance) Causes 160 Damage over 20 seconds



Ballistic Accuracy (-2pts)



Min Level 7







Now, what's the issue here. The fact that a level 5- has just used a
level 7 gun on me in PvP. Because it causes 160 damage PER SECOND with
a 20% hit chance. This is far, far worse than the boosted shotgun. I
didn't CCR the person who did it, but anyone I catch using this in the
future is certainly going to be getting one. There is no excuse that
you 'accidentally' used a lvl 7 gun in lvl 50 PvP.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a graphics kid. I suck at
anything beyond basic manipulation tasks. Also, until I downloaded a
mod for HL2 today I had no idea that X-Fire could take screenshots.
Then I saw this :smileysurprised::







The only thing I've done to this is resize it so it
doesn't break the forums. I don't have a clue how it came about, or why
on earth it was even taken in the first place (maybe I hit some random
key by mistake?)



But, yeah. Just thought I'd share this grainy, broken security camera type image with you.

All things are fleeting, and never is that more evident than on the QA server. In four short days the server will become a ghost town as the combat revision goes live. We do NOT intend to go out without a bang.

At 22:45 GMT the two sides will square up in the lobby. Trannie scum by the elevator, The Blue Rank by the metal detectors. At 23:00 I and whoever the Trannies believe can best me shall engange in single combat. After the duel, irregardless of who won, we shall let slip the dogs of war and the battle for dominance of the QA server shall be joined. The violence shall sweep through the streets, and all shall be subsumed by its rage.

If the devs would like to contact me in order to co-ordinate this with whatever trickery you may already have lined up, that would be excellent. Think about it, 'The servers aare going down in 15 minutes.' 'The Servers are going down in 5 minutes...'. It'll add a little bit of an edge to the PvP. And of course if the devs do get involved, there may be some other occurances alopng the way SMILEY

Times may be changed to make them more manageable. Your opinions? ))

  Quite simple really ... you shouldn't be able to hyperjump while in combat state. This will remove one heck of a lot of grief from PvP. Of course people can still run away but they won't be able to go for that instant get-out-of-near-death-situation-free card when they're fighting players. PvE won't be affected overly much because, to be frank, any player can outrun an NPC. That's why Hypersprint exists.

It makes sese to me. When you're jumping you have to concentrate on warping the fabric of the matrix. Surely you can't do that while being shot at the same time?

  PLEASE allow us to see where the Proxy is on the Mini-Map. If you do I'll love you forever. I've lost count of the number o times where I've lsot track of the sim and it's impossible to find it again.

You can add blips for team-members, would simulcra be that much extra work?

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the EP discussion, but here seems slightly more appropriate. Is there any possible way that you could give a simulcra a command to either enter and stay in, or leave interlock altogether?

This is the one main issue I have with this tree at the moment. Nuker sims going into interlock when I want them staying out, and Akido sims staying out when they should really be in. Just a simple 'interlock', 'don't interlock' toggle on the Simulcra command panel and I feel a lot of the problems, especially with the Akido sims, would be solved. I can quote HCFrog saying that Akido not entering IL is a deep rooted AI problem ... so why not take that decision away from the computer?

This is particularly important to me because once my sim has interlocked, which I often don't want it to do, I'm reduced to spicking away from the outside with a gun and the occasional heal, negating the Utilit Master's strengths.

Obviously by default the setting would be normal AI, as it is at the moment. But would it be overly hard to add a few lines (gross oversimplification, I know) to the AI scripting to enable this behaviour?

(P.S - Stopping 9mmFu meatwadding my sims would be helpful too SMILEY )

I realised today that sitting on a bench and typing /loadlo X breaks the bench. No idea why, but you can blame me fro breaking the benches at Mara C on the EP server for 'testing' purposes now SMILEY

I'm sure quite a few of you remember the Walrus video which was released before christmas that gave us our first glimpse of the Combat Revision. Well, that was over three months ago, and a lot has changed in that time. So I've inexpertly hacked a load of combat scenes together to try to give those without an EP installation an idea of what the new combat system is like. It showcases a lot of good stuff, although it does showcase one or two minor bugs still as well SMILEY

Great idea, good implementation. I presume I'm only on the first one of a series, but it's pitched at just about the right arduousness. Seraph = good, dragging a level one bluepill over 1.5 Kilometers in-game ... ouch SMILEY

EDIT: This is the point where sims really come in useful, you can send them ahead to kill the mobs while you stay back with the bluepill

  Just what the title says really. These guys have the ability to heal themselves perpetually, and the 'Hostile Code 3.0' ability still does around 3-500 damage a pop. With all the buffs and everything else activated these guys can tank far, far better than any MA. Hopefully Revolt will come on and tell us exactly what he did to avoid dying once over a three hour period flagged for PvP; but I'm not too hopeful on that score SMILEY

I'm sure that there's weaknesses, but from what I've seen even two MAs, and MA and a Hacker, and an MA and a gunman can't take one Utility Master Combo down. And that seems rather unbalanced to me.

  Using the new 'Detonate Proxy' ability you stand around, unflagged, and blow up your sim. And while the sim will do damage to PvPers around it when it is immolated, it won't flip your flag.

Picture the scene: Z/M/Machin/erg assaulting Mara C. They think they've got everyone. Then 15 unflagged utility masters show up. Each creates a simulcra, each blows it up. Rinse and repeat until every PvPer has been wiped from the face of he earth, with the Utility Masters never once getting flagged. Its like a hacker could take a potshot at you without going into PvP themselves.

This really needs to be fixed before live, especially with the apparant 'pwnage' aspect of the Anniversary event.

  I've bugged all of these but the toughness, which I'm awaiting clarification for. But first the minor oversights SMILEY

Awakened glasses still buff Combat Tactics when used, and sitting down still brings up -200 Dodge Ranged in the status screens. Just a little bit of a left over from the last system. And now for the important part:

Toughness

What the heck is going on with it? I've seen no information on how it works, or even if it works anymore. I've got two things that can boost my toughness, Tiger Master's Gi and Prison Mastery Device. However I don't see toughness actually having any effect on any of my resistances. Is this an overlooked element of the game, or are there some changes there that aren't reflected in the item descriptions?

Oh, and whenever you get hit and the toughness increases the Prison Mastery animation resets itself btw. The 30 second timer is still there, but the actual animation starts afresh each time, meaning you can't actually see how long it's got let to run.

There is a tactic that the ... less refined PvPers on live like to use, which exploits the rollout timer. And the NPCs from Box 3 seem to have acquired knowledge of this SMILEY

Basically the NPC gets you into interlock and then rolls out straight away, leaving you in a kind of half-way world for a few seconds while the camera withdraws. It also means that you can't interlock that NPC again right away due to the 6 second rollout timer which was implemented a few months back. A few seconds later the NPC pulls you into interlock.   Simply put ... don't even attempt it.

I challenge one level 50 to start a new PB mission set, do all the missions and do the box solo. Trust me, it ain't gonna happen.

I've just been trying an arc three mission which was already in my inventory, me and L3vity stepped into the room and were instantly dead. 25 x lvl 47 = instagank. I DREAD to think what the actual boxes are gonna be like.

I know that it's still early days, but even after things are balanced I get the feeling PB isn't going to be such a cake walk anymore. Get them in before CU goes live SMILEY

  Those of you who have looked into the Utility Master tree on the QA server may know that there've been many changes. If not, you can take a look at the thread here:

The one thing that I am slightly disappointed in is the loss of 'Decoy'. While expoloding simulcra and vampirism are pretty cool, nothing beats making a repicant of yourself.

So, I would suggest adding the ability back in. The best place I could see for doing this would be the awakened tree, in a poition similar to Resist comat or the Mbius code, maybe; or alternatly under the basic coder branch.

  I LOVE what they've done to Utility Master. Been playing with it for the last hour or so. Just look at there:



Yep, Utility Masters are, from this point on, VAMPIRES SMILEY

You can blow your proxy up (does no damage, I've bugged it), destroy it to regain IS and destroy it to regain health (I'm interpreting that as 400 health for every 1,250 damage done to the sim). Although the loss of decoy and Audio Decoy are a bit annoying (I loved both), I do LOVE the new abilities. Great work.
