The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Sightseeing is over... Re:Sightseeing is over... Chuui 0 01/23/2009 00:46

I offered to show you how to do them.  I was available to help you.

In the long run through, you weren't. Like I said to you, our timezones while close, still didn't overlap anywhere near enough. In fact, I only ever recall seeing you in game two or three times the whole time I played.

I have a feeling... Chuui will be back. I came back several times since I just can't stay away from he Matrix.

Sadly, I won't be. I finally made the choice after thinking a lot more on the matter and I have deleted all of my characters from my primary account. If I could justify the near $20 monthly charge, I'd reactivate my second account just to finally delete those characters too. But then, considering that I'll never reuse those characters anyway, why waste money in deleting them, the same way I wound up wasting money by creating the account in the first place?

OMG!!!1!!! i didn t get to be part of the "live event"....../crylikeababy

This is a shining example of why I feel that I wasted the money on my second account. You see, I used to be a part of LESIG and used the second account specifically for that. Most character slots went to secondary characters used to help booster the LESIG events created with the aid of Rare and HCFrog, others such as The Cartographer were used to pose puzzles, that I literally spent hours on creating, to the members of the community. I even did the old LO stint for a bit. But through all that, what was the reward that I and most other LESIG members received?

*****ing and whining from members of the community. Either here on the forums, in game through tells, or via PMs to Rare/HCFrog. Those far outnumbered any indications of appreciation. If that wasn't bad enough, there was also the harassment some LESIG members had to put up with and the ******** who thought it fun to use what ever exploits they could to gain information relating to upcoming events with the sole aim of destroying such events.

There's nothing more annoying than spending a good month helping to design an event, creating characters for it and so forth to wake up at 4 am (the usual time that events happened in my timezone) only to find that someone had leaked the entire event. So instead of performing an event that had been planned, the LESIG members who hadn't had enough of seeing their work runined by an ungreatful community, had to try and come up with new events in a very short amount of time. Naturally, this would always be followed by more whining from the community.

Hell I still remember all the tells about how I was "ruining" the game (to put it in its politest form) and being /ccr'd for this and that when we writing out DifferenceEngine -- using a story line created by HCFrog no less!

So, remembering all that (and it being the reason I stopped playing in the first place), I realise there is nothing left in this game that I would want to return to. Enjoy it if you can; but next time, really consider about how you treat the people who spent a large amount of their time and money on providing content for you.

Well, I'm sorry to say but I've reached the decision to once again cancel and leave the Matrix indefinitely. When I first heard of the new changes as to how the story was to be handled, I was interested to see if it would solve the problem of never being able to be a part of the story. The original problem being down to live events never happening at the time of day I played.

Sadly the new system is no better. And again, it's the time of day that's the real problem. That and the severe lack of suitable players also playing at that time of day. It is just not feasibly possible now, to enjoy the high level content when you are forced to group during a time of day when there is literally no one to group with.

So I guess this game is destined to be only for people playing in the "popular time zones", the ones that saw all the live events of the past few years too. I doubt this problem will ever be solved and will only become more serious as it slowly causes other players to also leave.

It's a shame. This game had and still has such promise. But only if the right decisions were made for once. And while I'd like to say I'll be back to check out the anniversary event, etc., to see if any changes for the better have been made, I seriously doubt I'll actually bother again. I just don't feel this game is worth the 1730 yen ($19.13) that SOE now charge me for per month. It was already a stretch to justify the price when it was $15 a month. So, this is me signing out again. Sorry.

For those inclined to, you can always find me at bansama.com.

I'm curious, how many of the 'bad timing' crowd have actually asked for someone to help them out?

I'm happy to assist people on Syntax, I'm not in America, I can spend quite a while in game most days and my Sundays are completely free.

Or is it that you feel teamwork in an MMO is somehow wrong?

Now, you know I've asked for help and advice on some things. But generally, when I do find other players in game, they are either very low level or Machines. Being a Zion flagged player, it's not surprising that it's hard to find help from the other org players. I also love teamwork, my best memories in this game are from when I was in an active faction and we worked together to accomplish our goals.

I also considered changing my org to join a more active faction -- but for that rep system and not wanting to lose my high rep with no solid assurance I could gain equivalent in another org -- is what stops me there. As much as I would love to jump in game during the day on weekends, too, (when I know there will be a larger player base) my two small children prevent that for the most part. So unless they sleep for a few hours in the afternoon, I can't play any game for a meaningful amount of time until the evening once they are in bed.

Now as far as soloing is concerned -- so far I've only played the first 11.3 mission (again due to time constraints and running the archives). I can easily (as an MA build) handle the 1 to 3 level 51 3 chevron NPCs that come along -- and did so enough to get 11 of the pens (which I figured was the minimum I needed). Once or twice, I've faced near death (when faced with 3 NPCs) but I expect that and prepare for it. When only 1 or 2 of the level 53s spawned, they were a walk over -- the third one upped the challenge. I also barely survived one of the commandos in International (I think it was level 55?), so I know my character build can handle several level 51s but will struggle with anything above 55 -- especially if there is more than one of them (never did get to the boss command by the way).

My real complaint there is that the level 50 item rewards for the crits -- the only ones that appear of real use to my character -- just seem unobtainable. That wouldn't be such a problem if there were slightly lesser comparable level 50 items that could be obtained -- or of course, if I ever luck out to find someone willing to help out when I'm in a position to be able to use that help.

On a side note when I jacked in yesterday all I pretty much saw at Tabor West were people moaning about how they are bored of the missions and don't want to do them =(.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Re:Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Chuui 0 12/13/2008 04:06

When most of the content in MxO is perfectly soloable I don't really see the problem of making some things that require a group to complete.

Most is not all. And why should players such as myself be denied access to some of the content simply because we tend to play at a time of day when there are no other suitable players online?

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Re:Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Chuui 0 12/13/2008 00:02

I still do think its more than fair and appropriate for a team to be needed to kill Wright to obtain the Decel bits for the 50 wireframe glasses, though.

This is pretty much the only thing I disagree with (and to make it clear, I also think the level requirements were a poor move too). Given the ever dwindling number of players, to then shut off more of the content/awards from those who simply are unable to find others to help them, is just a poor move. An alternate means for farming should be supplied for those who have no choice but to solo - even if it's against NPCs with a far lower drop rate than say the ones in place for the groups to attack.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Re:Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Chuui 0 12/11/2008 21:09

I don't know, perhaps they're going to stop giving out effects. I'm probably wrong, it's just the impression I get from the way they now been set up with the farm part of the quest process and all. And let's face it, the archivist list for items to sell is getting a bit full. There will certainly be a point when the limit there is reached. Then how will the archive missions be made available?

Of course, I'd love to see the archive mission system continue, so I hope I am wrong.

And again, no one wants to solo anything

Speak for yourself. There is nothing wrong with soloing if the content allows for it =P. Especially now given the number of players in game at any given point outside of peak US hours.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Re:Re: Level requirements for storyline missions Chuui 0 12/11/2008 19:51

I wonder if the new archive reward will require your org's 11.3 validation ticket plus the other six standard tokens (3 orgs' 11.1 and 11.2 tokens)?  Thereby continuing this new system's exclusionary nature.

I was under the impression that the new system was going to mean that the mission collectors will be a permenant fixture in the world, meaning those crits could be played anytime -- thus removing the apparent need to archive them. Is that incorrect?

Community General Discussion I'm The Minority Re:I'm The Minority Chuui 0 12/10/2008 22:24

if anything you should be on the side saying we need more events that happen more often at different times such that you could experience them and anyone else in strange time zones could.

If you read my above post, you'd I already covered that. *IF* we ever had events that truely could cover a point anywhere within a 24 hour period, I'd be all for them. But I know better than to expect that to ever happen. So while understand others want events, I think it's just as important to them to realise that said events should be taking up the majority of developer time -- as they used to -- as that just makes things far worse for everyone else.

That is just my opinion, but it seems to me if you like the story and never got to do a live event you really ought to participate in one before you say were better off without - i mean your sort of playing devil's advocate to a point your not fully aware of.

I did my fair share of event stuff. And as much as I would love to say more, I think it's best I don't. But suffice to say, I speak from a certain point of experience and view as far as events are concerned. And from that point, I'm very glad they are gone.

and if you argue that should be the devs job isn't player made content what lesig was about in the first place?

No. It really wasn't. LESIG was *supposed* to be about giving feedback. It was never meant to be an LET substitute.

Community General Discussion I'm The Minority Re:I'm The Minority Chuui 0 12/10/2008 20:25

If we did get the LE's back (with all that follows etc.)

Nope. Unless of course, we finally got decent 24 hour coverage.

If we did get LESIG back (maybe a upgraded version..idk)

Personally, I'm glad it's gone. And would not want to see it come back in it's old format or anything similar.

If we did get the storyline back to where everyone could follow it.

That would depend on the formatting in which the story is told. If the majority of the story telling is to be through live events always held in the same narrow time frame, then no.  I've already posted my reasons why.

If we did get new toy's for RP's
If we did get new toy's for PvP's

I never see enough of a player base online for of those to be worth it U_U so...

All in all I can understand why those who could attend events are now upset over not having them, but to think that they are the only players who should be catered to is just selfish. We all pay to play this game, so we should all benefit from whatever little can be added into the game now.

One or two events a week for those capable of attending them would be ok, as far as I'm concerned, but they certainly should not be the driving force of this game -- when they were, it just led to most non US/UK players to up and quit. There's nothing more annoying then jacking in over an "event" to know all you'll ever see of it is the automated spawns (which most of the time were bugged to hell and back).

Likewise, restricting the criticals to player level is just plain wrong. That will not attract new players to join and remain in game long enough to see the higher level missions. And it's certainly not working for the current players either. I know I won't waste my time leveling up characters in other orgs just for those missions. Especially so when parts of them require more than one player to take part in -- we simply do not have the player base to support such content.

Now if only SOE would splurge out for staff for MxO and had a huge advertising campaign, I'd love to see events held on a weekly basis covering any and all time zones. That'd bring new reason for playing, but only if it's also coupled with new content too. But LEs alone -- especially in their age old format -- are completely pointless to players such as myself and ultimately are nothing but a waste of our $17.30 a month (yup, SOE raised the price on us with their regional pricing.)

Community General Discussion I'm The Minority Re:I'm The Minority Chuui 0 12/10/2008 07:55

Going to strongly disagree with you inthe following post, sorry. If we had people actually interested in playing the game, you, me and others with our bad timezones would actually have enough people to talk to when online. No live content - no interest to stay online.

We did. They were all people in the same time zone who too, didn't have a clue as to what was going on. Been there done that. Nothing has changed in that respect; nothing ever will.

Rare simply needs to make the content a little more accessible to all right now. And that means a move away from making it group only content. Or, adding a means to make it soloable (an earnt item that makes handling higher level NPCs easier, for example -- with occompanying farm to get said item).

But then, I certainly don't see the harm in two or so events held a week (as long as there is other content provided that is accessible regardless of time zones and without requiring groups to access it). It's not like it's going to change anything for more. I still won't see anything of them -- I gave up reading the forum posts ages ago. Trying to read area chat in screen shots is just far too annoying.

but in terms of storyline, i have no clue what is going on and admittantly.. im not interested anymore.

Oh, and I agree with that completely. I tried to catch up with the story, I watched all the cinematics, and I just came away feeling bored. I'm only sticking around right now for the in-game content such as the archives -- not so much for the story, but for the items. I'm bored of the story. It's been eeked out too long in a fashion that just wasn't engaging enough for me. If all I cared about was the story, there would have been no need to resubscribe -- I could have just read the forums for free.

Community General Discussion I'm The Minority Re:I'm The Minority Chuui 0 12/10/2008 05:26

As one of the many players who live in a region that has been constantly shafted in terms of live events right from the Lith days, I honestly couldn't care less that events are no more. It's not like I ever got to attend one. After all, it's nigh on impossible to attend something that usually starts at 3 to 4 am when you have work starting at 9 am. So a move to make the story more readily available within game for people no matter which time zone they are in, sounds good to me. However, given the severe lack of players who play the same time of I day I do, (take this evening for example, I was the ONLY player to be listed in /who searches in Richland, Westview, International and Downtown! Regardless of the hardline I used), adding in content that requires groups is just a poor idea. So, instead of being shafted in terms of enjoying the story through an event due to my time zone, I'm now shafted in terms of the story due to not being able to find a group because of the time zone I play in.

Guess that makes my time zone eternally shafted by MxO =/ And here I was hoping the new changes would have improved things for me! So, I don't mourn the demise of events, but I sure as hell hope that the current plan is re-evaluated in terms of being more friendly to players playing at times when the server is literally empty.

This PC would certainly be powerful enough to do that in theory. It's a quad core @ 2.50 GHz with a GeForce 9600 GT (512 MG on board memory IIRC) and a total of 4 gigs for the system (although it can't use all that being XP and all). However, when I try to ALT TAB out of MxO the graphics go darn weird until I jack out. So I guess it doesn't like the Nvidia card?

Okay, I've looked all through my ability tree, multiple times now, and I simply cannot find anything with the name Improved Hacking. So you're going to have really dumb things down for me today and tell me where it is. I've either turned into a complete noob, or this is my fever's fault. >_< Perhaps instead of trying to play MxO while sick, I should try to sleep >_>

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Storage Issue Re:Storage Issue Chuui 0 12/05/2008 02:16

The fact that the devs cant make major changes to the game since they took over is a major concern.

Yes it is, but sadly the fact is that the people who wrote and understand the bulk of the complex code that makes up MxO no longer work on it. Thus no one really wants to touch it in fear of damaging something beyond repair. The simple point is, MxO does not have the staff it seriously requires. Rarebit and Dracomet (if he's still around, I don't know) do an amazing job with the very limited resources and knowledge of the code they have.

I still see extremely obvious bugs in this game that have not been fixed since forever which just doesnt happen on other mmos.

Those MMOs actually have a programming team who understand the source code. We sadly, don't appear to have that anymore and haven't since the transfer to SOE.

As to the subject of storage, I too remember when we only had like 8 slots per page and no email function. The current email function acting as storage is a wonderful improvement. Although the draw back is some items that used to be emailable to yourself no longer are. Of course, I would love to see something better such as additional storage through the use of "compression" items or the like -- ideas that have been suggested for many years.

Community Redpill Rescue Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Re:Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Chuui 0 12/05/2008 01:49

If you're determined to do this alone then you might want to find out which Archive Mission it is that lends you several party members in the first phase.  You can take them down to Bathary and they'll help you kill the 53s.

You mean such as one of the missions, IIRC, that had level 255 Agents working for you? Or am I remembering wrong in regards to their level?

As nice as the multiple accounts on multiple PCs sounds, my current PC set up is not really geared towards making that easy. While I have two PCs, they share the same monitor but I could try giving it a go if I get desperate =) But I have plenty of time and don't mind the high level NPCs. At least they aren't level 55 commandos (which made mincemeat of me yesterday >_<SMILEY

Community Redpill Rescue Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Re:Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Chuui 0 12/04/2008 05:20

The fastest way to do this is to get someone to make a low level character and help you, or to use two accounts at once.

Sadly, niether of those are very likely. I can no longer afford two accounts and chances of me finding any other player willing to be a corrupted punch bag is very slim. I don't mind taking on the level 53s. They shouldn't be too much of a hassle if I can get them away from that big bug, I hope =)

Community Redpill Rescue Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Re:Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Chuui 0 12/04/2008 04:28

Spawn a Corruptor, then back away and wait for the spawned Corrupted to come to you.

Hmm, how long should it take for them to come get me? When I tried just before the servers went down, they were rather adamant about not leaving the warm protection of their big buggy friend =/

Community Redpill Rescue Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Barthary Row wasteland corrupted... Chuui 0 12/04/2008 04:19

Basically, I have a level 50 character and jack in when pretty much no other players are online =( So I'm wondering, is it actually possible to solo these darn things? Are there any methods for a player forced to solo to get the level 53 corrupted to spawn away from the level 100 corruptor? What sort of abilities should I load up? (I'm usually a Karate Grandmaster with a little bit guns thrown in, so I know little about the other trees in terms of combat).

So yeah to sum up, any tips on being able to successfully solo this or am I SOL as it's bascially impossible to find a group?

The truce was always supposed to end. In fact I'm fairly sure that was supposed to have happened in the first year of the story/game. But as we all know, things didn't go according to plan and the first years story was dragged out for several years.

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Merge Re:Merge Chuui 0 12/03/2008 15:55

I was never for a merge, but Recursion is a ghost town.

The simple, sad truth, is that all servers are a ghost town at specific times of day. I don't think a merge is really the most productive answer here. I do think they could try increasing the number of available character slots per server. Either to 5 or 6, allowing, once again, for character transfers for those that want to do it.

However, the most productive thing right now, would be for SOE to actively seek to increase the number of players, either returning or new. Sadly, it doesn't look like they want to spend that sort of budget on this game.

As to merging down to one server with forced PVP zones? I'd cancel again, right there and then, and never look back.

I guess it's probably to stop you as a level 50 easily getting something for a lower level character. Although I'm a bit out of touch on what is and isn't emailable these days, such as some PB stuff that used to be emailable no longer is as far as can see.

But if it's just for storage, as long as the emails don't get deleted, isn't emailing the item to yourself sufficient?

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Improving solo playability Re:Improving solo playability Chuui 0 12/01/2008 07:41

Nah, surely there are more of us than that!

It may not be that much more. At a stretch I'd say there was around 2000 subscribers, and that's being generous. To futher the point of my first post though, when I was playing at what would be early evening for me, there was a grand total of 7 players, including myself, in the Matrix proper (not counting the archives or constructs) on the Syntax server -- and that's supposed to be the busiest server.

That's just enough people to get one mission team going and to allow one person to AFK dance at the hardline of their choice. =/

Development Discussion Development Roundtable Improving solo playability Re:Improving solo playability Chuui 0 11/30/2008 23:40

I agree with the need for making some of this content more readily available to players who need to solo. It's not that people want to always solo, but for some timezones it can be far too challenging to find any other players. For example when I was playing last night, I only found 5 other players in my hardline hopping and none were over level 20.

When I first bought this game I was attracted to the fact that most, if not all, of the content back then could be handled solo. Too much of the new high level content is aimed at group work now. That's all well and good if you can find a group. But for those who can't, why deny them that content?

I think it would be helpful if something was done to ease this problem. I'm sure there must be something that could be done, even if it's by way of temporary simulcra or something that are specifically purchased for the task for an example - although it's probably better if I keep any real ideas to my own topic, if I ever come up with something feasible.

Good to hear, Endless. I'm always inspired by the stuff you do. And I really need to get back into the habit myself.

I'm currently running through the very old Archive missions, back when toilet seat face was still around, so a lot of catch up to do. Although Phrack was kind enough to fill me on a lot of stuff, too. It'll be a while before I'm back in the know, so plenty to do =) I'll have to learn all about the new archives too, though I'm not much for PvPing, I'll gladly risk death for some info! Especially with the prices of health pills these days (200,000,000 for 1 Health Pill 1.0?! =P) Nice to see the market place hasn't changed.

Yeah, I've been digging out all my old screenshots and other MxO related art. I'll probably start using some of my old Cypherite sigs again (asides from the one I have now) once I catch up on a position in the story.

I also find I have to remind myself how coding works and what all the different clothing in my extensive code library does!

That's what I was going to do. But I don't have a PM function, nor can find an option for it in my profile.

Oh,  Sphairo. I remember you too! And the "joys" of CR1, getting stuck in interlock and having to wait your turn before you could move. While I miss the two on one fights, I sure don't miss all the problems CR1 had.

Wow, there's a whole bunch of names I know. So nice to actually see a lot of the old players still here. Thanks for supporting the game all this time so there was a game for me to return too! Endless, are you still doing all the graphical wizardy you used to do?

Cloud, you'll have to remind me of your ingame name and all that. I'm hopping /t is the right command for tells at least >_>

Phrack, I'll send you PM shortly. (Or at least I would, if I could work out how to enable private messaging.)

ShiXinFeng, I must say, I am very pleased to hear that about LESIG. It's what they should have been doing right from the word go.

The scaling back of in-game events, doesn't really affect me. I rarely participated in any anyhow as they had a habit of starting at 4am for me!

To everyone else, thanks for saying welcome back =)

Now, what's up with the forum ranks? The topic listing them didn't seem to have all of them in it, so now I'm confused on that too >_>.

Certainly does. And I love the 12 items being able to be attached to one email. I'll have to spend a day going through all my old emails that I used as storage! I should be able to reduce the number of emails quite nicely.

And then I'll have to remind myself how to actually play in terms of combat =)

Ah of course, it's the archivists who handle the archives such as Yuki who also have the missions then, right? That completely escaped my mind. Don't worry about locations, I'll find them soon enough I just needed to be reminded as to what to look for.

And I recognise your name from back in the day =)

Yeah, so after what feels like a break of 2 years or so, I've decided to give good ol' MxO another try. After such a long break though, I find myself completely lost, while the place looks the same, it certainly feels different. And so I need my mind jogging and little bit of tourist information.

I see the email system has changed a bit. What are the new restrictions on it? Do emails purge at all or can it still be used as additional storage space?

I hear too, that criticals have changed -- this was one of reasons I've come back as I'm interested in how they turn out. But before I do that, I feel I need to catch up with the story again, but I find that I don't remember where I go for archive missions. Could someone remind me of the rough locations?

Finally, I'm wondering about a couple of things, one if it's still possible to solo such things as the critical missions? I always found it a little difficult to find other people when I last played due to my crazy timezone. Two, how does reputation now affect the criticals? How much do you need to do each stage? Was the system for reputation improved so that it's now possible to get maximum reputation? I'll accept simple answers for those two as I don't want to start any complaints over the details -- I've seen the locked threads, but didn't have the energy to read them.

Anyhow, it's nice to be back, at least for a while. =)
