Community Redpill Rescue Another noob question! Re: Another noob question! TheFates 0 06/02/2006 14:49

When I made my 3rd toon I had this same problem. What had happened with me was that I had forgotten to go in and spend my stat upgrade points (belief, reason, etc) when I upgraded my skills. Because I hadn't done that it wouldn't let me leave the tutorial even though all of the instructions had run telling me to enter the matrix. Once I spent the point the option to jack-in popped up when I right clicked.

I did this same critical mission for the Machines yesterday at level 12. I only had proxy coder skills loaded and had no problems. It didn't require hacker skills. I couldn't swear on the exact steps since I ran so many missions over the weekend but I did find the password to the computers on that mission. Not sure if it was this mission but I know on one I had to kill a named npc, got a folder with a safe code off of him, opened the safe and found computer codes, and was then able to access a computer. Normally it's even more straight forward. Kill somebody, they have the password, end of story. I've yet to run into a mission that required any kind of special skill set. They've always provided alternatives to me.
Community Redpill Rescue About Agents About Agents TheFates 0 09/07/2005 10:58

If you're aligned with the Machine Faction are you still at risk of being attacked by Agents?
Community Redpill Rescue Need Low Level Spy Advice Need Low Level Spy Advice TheFates 0 09/06/2005 08:07

I've got a level 7 that has focused solely on the Spy tree heading down the assassin line. Currently, iirc, I've got Focus up to 17, Perception at 10, Reason at 5 and the rest of my stats at 8.  Here are the problems I've been having and I'm hoping someone might have some good advice to help take care of them.

-When sneaking I'll often get discovered before I can attempt an attack. This happens against yellows, blues, green, doesn't seem to matter. Other than staying out of line of sight is there anything else that can help increase my odds of staying hidden? Is lighting taken into account? Also, any way to turn off my personal flash light that seems to pop on at night?

-When sneak attacking a yellow I fail the attack about 75% of the time, against blues maybe 50% of the time. Would my ability to land this initial attack be affected more by perception or focus? Or is there something else that determines how likely I am to hit with a sneak attack?

-After my sneak attack hits I'll often get owned in interlock. Should I just sneak attack, flip out of interlock and go to free fire? Getting out of sight and sneaking again never seems to work since they always see right through my sneak whenever I get back in sight of them.

-And lastly, what's the best way to use the detect weakness tool? If I sneak and scan it breaks my sneak on completion and I lose that sneak attack. If I just walk up and scan I have a chance of attracting the enemies attention. Is it even worth it?

The Lounge Matrix Universe What was Morpheus's name? What was Morpheus's name? TheFates 0 08/22/2005 08:00

One little thing that always bugged me was how the Agents addresssed Morpheus. They just called him... Morpheus. Not Mr. So-and-so as they do with all the other red pills. Admittedly, the only other awakened they ever mention is Neo, but it seems the rule is that the Agents always refer to the person by their "real name" that they had before they were unplugged. So do they just not know Morpheus's name or was he afforded that much respect by the Agents?
Community Redpill Rescue Skills and $Info in the pre-teen levels. Re: Skills and $Info in the pre-teen levels. TheFates 0 08/19/2005 11:40
Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me. I'd gotten confused by a few threads over on Matrix Dojo. I may have to give coding a try.  The only problem I may have there is that my Reason stat is only at 5. SMILEY

Hasn't crafting been changed so that in order for me to make a skill I first have to purchase the skill and then decompile it to learn it's recipe? For example, to make the hyper-dodge skill I would first have to purchase hyper-dodge from a vendor and then decompile it to add the hyper-dodge skill to my recipe book before coding it myself.

I've been reading all of the guides I can find on sites such as gamergod and stratics but I've still got a few questions I'd like to get some opinions on. I just started playing and literally only have a few hours under my belt. Till now I've only run the critical missions from the starting contact with some random street sweeping thrown in to complete a couple of collections.

I'm only at level 6 but I want to make sure I'm taking the right track on this. So far my goal has been to get my skills/abilities for one line only so that I get the biggest impact for the $info spent. I haven't purchased any weapons, clothings, or items, only skills. I'm not planning on dabbling and I've only purchased skills that were essential to getting me to soldier level. In soldier I currently have Toughness, Firearms Skill, Martial Arts Skill, Sharp Shooter, and Multi-Fighting. All of the skills I can level are current and now I'm completely tapped out on cash.

What I'm wondering is should I only focus on MA of Firearms at this point or do I have to go down both lines to progress to either MA Initiate or Gunman? Also, is it pretty normal to be broke at this point or did I purchase too many varying skills? (the only thing in operative I didn't get was locate data node and I haven't purchased any additional awakened skills)

I'd also like to get some opinions on the various paths you can take. I watched a decent sized brawl last night where a dozen or more Merovingians popped into a crowd of Zionists and started going to town. What I noticed was that it seemed the majority of combatants were hackers. I hardly saw any melee'ers and just a few gunmen. Was this just random or is this fairly indicative of the spread of classes? I've been able to find lots of guides for the phage and arbalest type characters but nothing really for the soldier lines. It also seems that whenever I see a post about some fantastic player they're either a hacker or a knife thrower.  Are the soldier subclasses still effective later on or do they seem to fall behind others?

Also, for those who've played further on into the soldier line, what are some pros and cons you've seen to gunmen versus MA. I still haven't decided which skill I'd rather pursue at this point.

Thanks for any input that you may give.
