Anyone catch this on Fox after the Giants/Cowboys game?

I'm not the biggest Terminator fan, but it seems like it could be interesting. It takes place after the events of the second movie.

Super Mario 64 + Space = Super Mario Galaxy

This game is like crack. I just beat the first main Galaxy and I'm on 12 Stars. While I enjoyed Sunshine, Galaxy completely blows it out of the water. In fact, even though I'm just starting off, I'd go so far to say that this might even edge out Super Mario 64 in terms of platforming perfection if it keeps it up. I love how the game plays. You have bits where you have classic 2D areas, regular 3D areas, and then areas where you gravitate around the entire area which is very cool. The "side" galaxies are a blast too as they are mainly pure platforming and mini-game style levels which really helps mix up the pace of the game and presents a nice challenge.

I really can't find a fault with this game. If you don't have a Wii, buy one and then pick up this game. It's really that good. It even showcases some classic Mario Bros. 3 remixes.. you know it has to be pimp.
Community General Discussion POLL: Is MxO Canon? POLL: Is MxO Canon? RemagDiv 0 11/15/2007 20:01
The topic of MxO, the storyline, the enemies, our actions, etc. of being canon in relation to the official Wachowski productions in the Matrix franchise has always been a debated topic. It has been asked, but it's time for an official poll, a community poll that will be tallied and presented for everyone to see. The question:

Do you truly believe that MxO is canon to the Matrix franchise?

The following are officially canon:
  • The Matrix Trilogy
  • The Animatrix
  • Enter the Matrix
  • Path of Neo
  • The Matrix Comics Vol. 1 + 2
Do you feel that MxO should truly belong on that list? Take, for instance, this example that might make you think:

Say the Wachowski's revisit the Matrix franchise on its 20th Anniversary in 2019. For this special occasion and with renewed interest, they will be making a fourth movie. Now, do you believe that the Wachowski's would take into events that happened during MxO (obviously MxO will cease to exist by then) or would they start after Revolutions, ignoring the events that happened in MxO? If it's the latter, then MxO is considered non-canon, IMO.

Other smaller examples would be another Animatrix, a third volume of the comics, etc. Would they parallel events from MxO, or do you believe they would negate and nullify certain aspects to MxO?

Ask yourselves these questions, then choose your answer: Red or Blue

Community General Discussion Let's just be realistic here. Let's just be realistic here. RemagDiv 0 10/26/2007 23:09
Before I start I want to make clear that this isn't a negative thread, but I'm just going to be realistic in terms of MxO and funding.

We know MxO is a unique online experience that had great potential. The premise was something special. Instead of bashing orcs and elves in EverQuest, you can be apart of the continuing storyline of one of the greatest sci-fi trilogies of all time. Combat was also something special with the variety of the free-fire system and the one-of-a-kind Interlock system.  And so on...

I can continue describing the great aspects of MxO and why it has failed at a marketing and success aspect, but pretty much we all know know this by now. What I continue to see though are people clamoring for more support and funding from SOE. This would be nice, but let's take a step back and see a reasonable "what if" scenario:

SOE has decided to further fund MxO by a "disclosed amount". This funding will provide 10 more Devs, a 10-man consistent LET that will work with LESIG 2.0, re-release of the game packaged to stores nationwide, and ad and online marketing throughout the media outlets.  To have this, would probably bring tears of joy to everyone here. How much $$$ do you believe this would all cost? You would have the extra salaries of 20 new employee's for MxO, the expenses of the re-release, and the marketing. This would cost SOE quite the penny, but it's SOE, they have the money to make this happen, but just because they do, doesn't mean they will. They run a business first and foremost, they won't throw away 5-6 digit figures at a game that holds less than 1,000 subscriptions. They just won't.

Now, let's go back to the scenario. With the increased Dev team, they release an expansion pack which features two new MegaCity districts, graphical enhancement, added clothing and weapons, PvP updates, personal constructs, new Archives, I mean a serious, serious update that would really have the punching power of a WoW update or expansion pack. A real heavy hitter. Now, honestly, how many more subscriptions do you think MxO would get in the first month of this "MxO 2.0" overhaul? 10,000? 20,000? 30,000 new subscribers? Yeah right. I say even with all of this done, MxO wouldn't see an extra 1,000 subscriptions, and even that is being pretty generous, IMO. Thus, SOE has just put a ridiculous amount of cash into revitalizing the MxO project and they see less then 1,000 new subscriptions enter the game, they lose a ton of money and they will never see it back from this game.

You have to realize 2 strong factors as to why this would happen, regardless of how much SOE would ever fund this game.

1. The Matrix name is just not as buzz worthy and popular as it once was. It's almost 2008. Revolutions came out in 2003, and it generally received poor reviews. We have to face the facts, besides everyone here and some other scattered along the internet, most people just aren't interested in The Matrix anymore, and will not buy it because of this.

2. MxO already has a bad reputation from reviewers to just past subscribers. Regardless of anything, first impressions will always stick to people the most. If someone tried MxO and didn't like it, do you think adding in new areas and weapons would really bring them back? It would please us, but the average consumer or past subscriber probably wouldn't care.

So basically, I think we all know deep down that MxO will never change. We continue to strive for SOE to fund the game, hire more Devs, get an animator, a LET, updates, etc. and we nag SOE on their forums and e-mail on this fact and despise them for neglecting the game, but we all know deep down why MxO is in the state it's in. So instead of beating a dead horse, just play the game and enjoy. It's inevitable people will get bored and move on, to the point when MxO will have to shut down one day, sadly. This game will never change too drastically from what we have now, and we just have to accept that fact, whether you choose to believe it or not.

People say that the Rockies 8-day break won't affect them but I disagree. Rockies are a hot team the absolute last thing you want is to have 8 days off.

They need to win at least 1 game at Fenway. They go down 0-2 and this will be a 5, possibly 6 game series going to the Red Sox.

The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion Capcom announces 'Street Fighter IV' Capcom announces 'Street Fighter IV' RemagDiv 0 10/17/2007 11:34

--

As Capcom's media event gets started overseas, the company has already dropped one spectacularly major, but long awaited, announcement by revealing Street Fighter IV is currently in development. Capcom's community website has been counting down for over a week now, as gamers have speculated over what could be such a big deal.

The short teaser is nothing more than some Ryu and Ken stylized artwork of them fighting, with no word on what platforms the game is coming to or a projected release date. Clearly, Capcom is strictly teasing at this point.

Of all games, Street Fighter IV is probably worthy of such a countdown, considering Capcom released the original iteration of Street Fighter III back in 1997. A few months later came 2nd Impact: Giant Attack, which tweaked the gameplay and introduced two new characters, eventually followed up by 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future, bringing back Chun-Li and an addition four new characters, in 1999.

Unfortunately, we don't know anything more than that, and any impressions or announcements from the event are embargoed until later this week. Until then, let the speculation begin on what Capcom's bringing to the table in their latest numbered sequel in the Street Fighter series.

Gameplay Discussion Missions and Storyline Max Rep is IMPOSSIBLE Max Rep is IMPOSSIBLE RemagDiv 0 10/14/2007 12:27
Okay, either max rep is impossible, or my RSI is bugged.

I used to have 127 Machine Rep way back in the day, and then I lost 5 Machine Rep due to a bug in a 1.3 Critical. Yes, you read that right, a 1.3 CRIT.

Ever since then, I have gained 3 rep for a total of 125. It's stuck at 125, and I have done hundreds and hundreds of missions and all the Crits since 1.3 and it has been stuck at 125 rep since who knows when.

What gives!? I know at 125, the chance to receive a rep point is a very slim chance, but you'd think I'd reach 127 rep by now...

The Lounge Matrix Universe Sati - machine importance? Sati - machine importance? Remag_Div 0 08/01/2007 00:15
I'd like to start off saying I'm fairly disappointed that Sati has not been used as much as I thought. I was thinking she would play a much bigger role after Revolutions and in MxO, but so far she has not done anything worth writing home about, except being kidnapped by the General. I think the main problem is MxO's engine doesn't support the framework of a child, as it's been seen that she gets distorted like a rubber band. If they could fix this then it would help to introduce her in-game for more interaction. Here's hoping to more involvement in the future.

Anyway, I was completing machine archives and I stumbled across something Agent Gray said in 7.2.4 that made me think:

We know that without Sati, the weather patterns in the Matrix would go on a fritz, as we see this happen firsthand when the General kidnapped her, the weather was abnormal and even could cause bluepill attention. In this way, she is important to the machines to keep the weather patterns stable, but they also acknowledge that the Oracle is her tutor. Now, I'm sure the Oracle tutors her more than just the importance of the sky. Even so, it is strange that the Oracle could know of such techniques such as regulating the Matrix's weather patterns. We also see they acknowledge her improvement on the efficiency of her skills, but for what reason? Why would she need a tutor, and why would they be concerned over progression if her sole purpose was to raise the sun, to her it's a fairly simple task.

Again, just something I found interesting. As for her true purpose, that's up for debate and has been debated for a long time. I personally believe that one day she could possibly unscorch the sky in the real. Many people overlook a very important quote that the Oracle said not in the movies, but in the game Enter the Matrix, in saying "she's important to both our world and your world" (perhaps not word for word, but similar). By "your" she's basically saying the real world, but for what, and more importantly, how? Unfortunately, it seems unlikely now, especially with the truce being terminated recently.

Community General Discussion Duration of the Truce? Duration of the Truce? Remag_Div 0 07/30/2007 22:14
I'm a bit confused on this, maybe Rarebit or someone can shed some light.

My understanding was that each chapter in the cinematics supposedly represents 1 month in duration starting right after the end of Revolutions. If this is the case, then the truce lasted for eight months (cinematic 8.1). However, recently Niobe said that "Neo bought them two years." Now, if you go by how long MxO has been Live, then yes, it would be roughly 2 years the truce has been in place.

So which one is it: 8 months or 2 years?
The Lounge Matrix Universe The SIMple Solution? The SIMple Solution? Remag_Div 0 06/19/2007 18:57
Paul Chadwick has devised an interesting way to "bring back" Morpheus into the spotlight recently with his simulacrum going rogue away from the General's command.  However, recent events have brought me back to that fable day of Chapter 1.3.

I still feel to this day that Morpheus' death was untimely and the result of a very unlikely mistake that such a veteran operative such as Morpheus would not make. Anyone who would survive the happenings during Neo's time inside the simulation has the utmost experience and war hardened senses.

We do know the General has been part of the MxO storyline ever since Chapter 1. Even during Monolith, we witnessed Red-Eyed Agents who were Commando's in disguise and read reports to the General from certain drops that the Commando's left behind. We only got to see the General in Chapter 2.3.

We also now know that Morpheus had contacted certain Zion operatives before his death. The general gist of the message was how he had to go away for a long time as things cooled down. Not sure how credible this transmission is since it was done during the Lith LET days, but you never know.

Now, the punchline. Could it be possible that Morpheus had left the simulation at the time the General constructed a prototype Morpheus simulacrum? This simulacrum was the one who met its demise at the hands of the Assassin. This is why Commander Lock nor anyone could not find Morpheus corpse in the Real, because it was a program who met its demise, not Morpheus. Couldn't it be possible an earlier version of the Morpheus simulacrum somewhere along the line had stopped being a controlled Morpheus simulation, and started to become a free thinking Morpheus much like we are seeing now. We all know now the General's purpose was to destroy the truce and once again rage war on humanity. What better way then to have a prominent figure such as Morpheus destabilize the Matrix, however his renegade attitude caught up to him at the hands of the Assassin. With the deletion of the simulacrum, Morpheus himself had an easier time concealing himself in the Real over time. Couple in the fact of the Nabondis(sp) transmissions and the latest critical in which we see a figure viewing the events transpiring (I don't believe we have been told who that was yet) lead me to question everything.

I am also not 100% up to date on all live events, perhaps the above questions and misconceptions have already been answered and put down. But even so, it makes you wonder.

We know that the storytelling of the Matrix is meant to be portrayed in many different formats, but one area the franchise is lacking in is reading material.

Sure, we have the philisophical books (but how many do we really need?) and the "Art of" books, but I mean actual story telling novels, similar to the Extended Universe that Star Wars has and it's very successful line of novels.

The Wachowski's could hire multiple talented sci-fi writers to write a series of novels based on and off the Matrix universe. Some examples?
  • The previous iterations of the Matrix
  • The previous six Ones
  • The origins of Seraph
  • The origins of the Exiles (particulary the Merovingian)
  • Childhood stories of our favorite characters
  • Novels past MxO ??
There's so much untapped storytelling that the Matix provides, and with novels, it leaves it up to the reader's imagination.
The Lounge Matrix Universe The Search for Truth (general) The Search for Truth (general) Remag_Div 0 10/02/2006 18:39
Truth is not organized into a set body of knowledge, but rather it must be continually and systematically examined and re-learned.”

What is truth? How do you define truth? There are many meanings to this small word, and if you look in the dictionary, you will see the many different meanings it has literally. But can truth really be sought after and found? The truth for one individual may not be the same truth for a separate individual. In this way, we can believe that any and all truth in this world is subjective. So then is it possible to learn truth at all? This is my overall attitude towards the above quote, and how it can be interpreted. We cannot fully learn truth, because it is not organized universally in the same meaning. However, we can search for truth and understand the many different beliefs and levels of this, by re-examining and re-learning the many principles, but still not knowing ultimately the full truth or perhaps any truth at all.

Before we being to search for the truth, we must ask ourselves if we can even find an ultimate truth in the first place. To be human is to search, learn, teach, and act. We are a being that strives to know as much as we can, it is our nature to question each and everything we come across. No single definition of truth can be agreed on by scholars, and numerous theories of truth continue to be widely debated. Differing opinions exist on such questions as what constitutes truth, how to define and identify truth, what roles do revealed and acquired knowledge play, and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute. For instance, ask anyone “is it true that the sky is blue?” For the most part, the answer will be “yes”, but can we be absolutely certain that the sky is really blue? What if our eyes are deceiving us? What if a human was to only be allowed outside during the evening, then this person’s truth would be that the sky is not blue, but black.

For the sake of this argument, let’s say we can learn a universal truth(s). How do we go about this? By studying numerous amounts of text? Perhaps, but I feel truth is more easily obtained by experiencing it first hand. Truth is subjective because it depends on each individual’s own experiences, learning, beliefs, and upbringing. Is it true that the United States is an evil empire? No, but children in the Middle East are grown up believing in this, and to them it is the pure truth. This is why I feel we can truly never learn a definite truth and then leave it be. We must continually evaluate and search in ourselves the meaning of truth; to continually re-learn the truth of a single topic.

There are many different types of truth: Scientific, religious, mathematical. Scientific truth is physical truth that establishes what we can explain in this world by using the scientific method. Many scientists will agree that anything that passes the scientific method is absolutely true and it is true because it can be tested and done multiple times and still come out with the same outcome. Religious truth is mostly based on the dealings of faith and spiritual entities. So while we can never successfully test if there is truly a God, we can believe in a God and have faith. This is why many scientists do not believe in the existence of such a powerful entity because it can not be tested and proven, as they only go for an absolute truth.

To sum up the first part of the quote, we cannot learn a single, ultimate truth. We cannot take a class about truth and learn what is true and what is not true, because truth is not organized into a set body of knowledge, like mathematics, business policy, accounting, etc. We must open our mind and continue to discover the different ideals of truth, and to come to the conclusion that perhaps it is humanly impossible to ever be aware of the ultimate truth, but that does not mean we can’t try, because like I said, to be human is to search, learn, teach, and act.

The Lounge Matrix Universe Philosopher's Corner Philosopher's Corner Remag_Div 0 07/12/2006 12:27

--

Since the philosophy of the Matrix can only be told so much, here's a thread for all types of philosophy, that can be about both the Matrix or anything in general for our more thinking inclined community members. Some consider philosophy a waste of time, others believe it's the gateway to understanding the human mind and purpose. It's true, philosophy can be quite daunting and most people do not understand anything that comes out of the mouth of prominant philosopher's of the past. However, what they say, still holds true today and perhaps in the future, so they must be doing something right.

I'll start off with a concept about simulation, reality, and in turn relating to the Matrix paradox. It deals with Nick Bostrom's "Ancestor Simulation" theory. In order for his argument to work, at least one of the following three factors must be true:
  1. The human species will most likely become extinct before reaching a "posthuman" stage.
  2. A posthuman stage would most likely not develop something like an ancestor simulation.
  3. We are most certainly living in some type of simulation.
If option 1 was true, then the argument is irrelevant, because we would become extinct before we reach a posthuman era, be it by biological and nuclear warfare (which is becoming much more of a concern as the years pass) or even a nanotechnological disater in the future.

If option 2 was true, then we are not living in a simulation, however, currently, we always have a fascination of the past. Imagine, if we had the technological power to run a simulation during the age of the Renaissance, we most certainly would just to experience the time, the people, and the way of life. We would know it's a simulation, however the people inside the simulation are just advanced software, however they believe they are biological flesh living in their time period. On the flip side, posthuman civilizations might come up with laws to prevent ancestor simulation on terms of ethical behavior, however, has ethical decisions ever stopped decisions in the past? Unless the ethical and moral value of posthumans far exceeds ours, then we can assume that they will create simulations from the past, either as national studies on human behavior, or even for personal use of a college student studying the life of a 21st century human being in the comfort of his own home.

Thus, if option 1 and 2 can be concluded, then most certainly option 3 might be true. Realize that ancestor simulations would be running on a very broad scale, covering many timelines of our past, and most likely many ancestor simulations will be running at the same time. Scientists, all the way down to a simple student could be running this simulations, and in turn trillions of simulated individuals would be created for this simulations, oblivious that they are only software in a simulation.

Now, here's what will really bake your noodle. It's still possible for an ancestor simulation to progress technogically on their own, unlike the stable year of 1999 in the Matrix. Ancestor simulations could very well develop into posthumans themsevles, and create a simulation that they can study as well, the argument of a simulation simulating their own ancestor simulations, so it can really get messy at this point, and all terms of reality become extinct.

Sound crazy, yes? But if you think about it, it's not really far off. And the scary part is we will never know. Although, it's a much better turnout then being a slave to AI in order to power their civilization. Instead, we have been created out of sotfware as part of a scientist's research project, or perhaps we're living in just a "me-simulation" for a posthuman teenage girl's science project. At least it's better off than the Matrix,
The Lounge Matrix Universe Will humans evolve again? Will humans evolve again? Remag_Div 0 07/11/2006 13:37
The human race is the culmination of thousands of years of evolution, if you believe in the scientific explanation and not the religious explanation. The reason we are what we are today in turn was dominantely paved by survival of the fittest. Biological species never survive encounters with superior competitors. The earliest example would be ten million years ago, when South and North America were seperated. South America was populated by such creatures like marsupial mammals, similar to rats, deers, and tigers. When South and North America were eventually connected, it took only a few thousand years for the northern species to wipe out the southern mammals.

During the B.C. era, early humans were not sophisticated. Then, all of a sudden, they built weapons to hunt animals. They created fire to stay warm and to cook their food. They began to create artwork on the walls, and developed a language. How can this be possible, where one instant they are basically a more complex version of a mammal, and then in one instant form intelligence to begin doing these acts? Since then, technology has progressed our lives, whereas today we couldn't live without our current technology.

I feel that biologically, we are at the peak of our intellect, however this doesn't mean we can't evolve in another way. I believe sometime in the near future, about 100-200 years, we will advance our technology so far that we can actually bind ourselves with mechanical entities, thus nullyfing what it means to be human. The forefront of nanotechnology and technology in itself is doubling every decade. At our current rate, we will make a 100 years progress in todays rate in 25 years. The next ten years will be like twenty, and the next ten years will be like fourty, so technically the 21st century would be like twenty thousand years of progress at today's rate.

Eventually, part of us will not be biological at all. Mechanical legs, arms, nanotechnology in the brain to make us smarter, downloable content, virtual reality on the whim. Humans and machine intelligence will be deeply melded as one, and it will be inevitable. The "post human" era, but hopefully we do not eradicate the human race before this, and hopefully our creations don't end up using the survival of the fittest routine, or otherwise we may be ending up in a Matrix of our own.

Feedback Forums Player Versus Environment Feedback Red Frag drops Red Frag drops Remag_Div 0 06/30/2006 18:55
I don't know about other Red Frags, but I tried to obtain Consumable Subroutines tonight at Lamar and was unsuccessful for about a good half hour. I should have gotten at least 1 frag for 30 minutes of work, if not more. Is the Consumable DR drop rate borked, or has the Red Frag % been lowered a considerable amount?
Feedback Forums Player Versus Environment Feedback Problem with Mission Distance Problem with Mission Distance Remag_Div 0 06/18/2006 21:24
I think there may be a problem with mission distance depending on what you choose.

Tonight, I took a tiny/hard Assassination mission in a spot that usually limits the mission under 200-300m total, but tonight I got this:

Obviously that can't be right. Other times, I get 500-600m+ missions on Tiny, and when I try to see what Large distances look like, they are the same distance as Tiny.

Anyone else get this?

Game 1 is on right now on ABC. They played Rob Dougan's "Clubbed to Death" with the player intro's. That song does pump me up. SMILEY

I say Heat wins in 6 games, with Wade being the MVP.
The Lounge Off-Topic Discussion If MxO were to shut down... If MxO were to shut down... Remag_Div 0 06/03/2006 09:53
  ...at the end of August...

1. Would you continue to play over the summer until the very last day the servers are up, or trash it right away?

and

2. What MMO would you go to?

--

Me, personally, I would:

1. Play until the last second the servers shut down, hanging out with my Faction in Stamos NW or our HQ building, just like at the end of beta.

2. Most likely try SWG out again, and wait for LotR Online.
Community General Discussion Expansion Pack Expansion Pack Remag_Div 0 05/30/2006 14:05
An expansion pack for MxO has been discussed numerous times before, but I am worrying that we will never receive a true expansion pack for MxO.

Expansion packs not only give an incredible amount of new content to a current MMO, but it also shows that the development team is still working on the game, and putting in time, money, and effort into their project that they have been doing for years on end. It's work, but it should be fun for developers to brainstorm and create ideas for an expansion pack for their game. Also, expansion packs usually imply that the game is deemed a success for the developers, in which they create expansion packs for their current subscribers, bring back old subscribers, and attract brand new subscribers. And expansion packs don't require as much work as the initial project because the expansion still uses the basic in-game engine, it's all about expanding the engine to its full potential.

Now, I always wondered if Monolith had plans for an expansion pack in MxO's future, but we will never know now that SOE has taken over. Usually, their is a seperate team to design the expansion packs for an MMO, but since SOE MxO's staff is, well, understaffed, it seems pretty grim to see any type of expansion pack in the near future. This is the Matrix, there could be so many cool new additions and expansion packs to keep MxO fresh, both for current subscribers, to bring back old subscribers, and to try to gain new subscribers who didn't particularly like MxO, but now see an expansion pack that suits there needs (i.e. SWG's Jump to Lightspeed expansion, which opened up real time space combat, and introduced a plethora of new players).

Is there anything going on behind the scenes, or can we pretty much forget about any major expansion for MxO?
