For me its between Planetside and Quake3.

No, Planetside has the best concept ever. They just failed in practice.

Planetside made it waay past the concept stage

It's the best game I've played, but then again I don't play many online games.  All it needed was TLC by the staff who would listen and act on ideas/complaints and it would be running smoothly with somewhat good population.
