New Tower Concept

A hobby of mine, other then planetside is building maps useing GTKradiant (Quake 3), im amature at it but i understand the editor well and can make some decent maps if i chose to put the time into it. i used it this time to make a rough concept map of a new tower design for planetside. i didnt spend a whole lot of time on this, ddnt see any reason to , so its preaty much a hack job, mixed up textures, no detail, z fighting ect ect. the idea was just to make a structural design and share it with all of you, see what you think of it, get feed back on what you would change/add and maybe ill remake it with those ideas. this is just for shts and giggles, but if a dev see its and it gets him/her thinking about building a new tower for PS, GREAT!

 

Name: Advanced Medical Outpost

Layout: Basic tower setup, spawns in basment, cc up top. diffrence will be two medical stations, one in basement with spawns another on a upper level.. the roof pad will not repair but air can land on it...

It's cool, but unfortunetly they can't new stuff into the maps because ...well IDK exactly, but some terrain problems or something, can't put objects in the terrain, and the bases are build into it :/

ya, i know, but you never know, they may decide to build three new home conts, new base layouts and towers would be fun if so..

I actually like the stairwell and interior design of that tower more than the ones ingame. The medical pad is cool, any passengers that are in the air vehicle with the person get healed as well as the driver?(Instead of repairing vehicle)

The bases are an integrated part of the terrain - if you pulled the bases away from the map, there would be gaping holes in the terrain where the bases should be. Part of this is because the bases have underground levels, and part of it is just the way the devs made the game.

 

I'd love to see a new twist to towers and such.

Would like to see them roll back to the old towers with the CC in the basement and the 3- 5 min hack and hold tower timers (can't remember exact time). I miss those days. Then they add in the tower ntu silos like they were going to add and things are good. Towers last last too long but don't end too quickly either as long as the defenders are willing to keep the silo filled.

Hack and Hold added the posibility for fights at towers away from base SOI's but it really slowed down base assaults; maybe a mix would be nice...

@OP that be an intresting tower; I like the structure; but there would have to be only 2-3 of them per cont because I can see fights there lasting a long time...

 

That said this is all academic, because development has pretty much ground to a halt...

It looks very interesting and it would be something I would have fun fighting over. The central stair case would be a place for 7 TR MAXs to brace themselves at, leading into an epic spam fest... but it would be fun.

Well done.

 

Perhaps this place would have a 1 min hack and hold timer on it instead of insta-switch.

Went ahead and made a map out of this tower, not in a finished state but playable and i think im done working on it for now.

added some basic lighting and fixed a few textures, wish i could say it was quick but the mesh patchs for the terrain REALLY didnt want to cooperate with me, no bot support (stupid mess patches) but i got a .pk3 bundled up SMILEY

though i would share even thou the only one going to see it is likly dropdown being he's the only other person who still plays quake on occasion..
